Other than that, two solid performances from both teams especially the goalkeepers!

39 minutes into the first half after several chances from both teams Ndeye Diakhaté scoring for Senegal from the penalty spot after Aisha Nantongo's challenge on Haptasou Diallo, and celebrating in Senegalese way.
5 minutes into the second half Nguenar Ndiaye scoring a controversial goal after a misjudged pass from Yudaya Nakayenze. Poor Yudaya. Offside or not? Debatable!
With this goal Senegal secured the first spot in the group​

What can I say about this game? Arguably one of the best games, players only lacked concentration. Controversy didn't leave that game alone, as in the 85th minute the referee refused to check VAR for a deserved penalty in favor of the Copper Queens after a clever free kick technique.
Cameroon on the other hand, had their cup of bad luck, after the referee refused a last minute goal, ruining the joy for Samuel Eto'o, Rigobert Song and Pierre Webo in the stands.

The Eagles of Carthage wanted to prove that they came to Morocco to prove that they are a no nonsense team, how you'd might ask? Glad you asked! By scoring a Jamie Vardy-like chip shot from outside the box in the first 20 seconds of the game, signed by Maryama Houij. 10 minutes later, a mistake from Amé Amouklou leads to a headed goal by Tunisia's number 9 Sabrine Ellouzi.
Togo didn't let the Tunisians celebrate longer, as Odette Gnintegma scored from the penalty spot in the 22th minute.
In the 50th minute, Ella Djankalé learned it the hard way, that you don't pull a player from behind if you're the last defender, making this poor lady the first sending-off of the tournament.
Despite standing at a 167 cm tall, Sabrine Ellouzi comes back again to score a header after a free kick cross from the other Sabrine, Sabrine Mamay!
There is a saying in Arabic that translates to "When it rains it pours", as in the 71st minutes another costly mistake from the Togolese goalkeeper Amé Amouklou makes it 4-1 to Tunisia after she couldn't get grip of a very weak shot from Maryama Houij, but forget about it, and enjoy that Tunisian Tiki-Taka​

Spectators had to wait 61 minutes to see the first goal from the Banyana Banyana, a great long pass from the left defensive line, ankle breaking turn by 5 foot tall Noxolo Cesane leaving the 6 foot tall Ashleigh Plumptre questioning her existence and finally a clinical finish from Jermaine Seoposenwe.
This goal have given the South African a push forward, hence they scored the second goal after just one minute, and again a beautiful build up passing successfully finished by Hildah Magaia thanks to the great assist of Refiloe Jane!
Nigeria in the other side couldn't see the ship sinking without taking action, so in the second minute of stoppage time Rasheedat Ajibade scored the consolation goal.

Just before half time, an amazing one-two from Nondi Mahlasela and Keitumetse Dithebe, and a dipping shot from the latter giving her side the lead.
One minute into the second half, ridiculous mistake from the Umurundi mistake pays in favor of Botswana, with a tap in finish from Lesego Radiakanyo.
That didn't stop the Abarundi from coming back in the score line, as the captain Asha Djafari displays amazing turns and quick feet leaving her marker in the dust, she couldn't finish successfully but Sandrine Niyonkuru took the rebound!
Refilwe Tholakele in the other hand is good at breaking hearts, as she slapped the ladies in red shirts in the face with a screamer of a shot from the edge of the box, the goalkeeper could do nothing about it but stretching in the air. Same lady will strike again taking advantage of Burundi's lack of understanding.
In the 80th Sandrine Niyonkuru will come back again to score an amazing volley in the top corner of Botswana's net but that couldn't save them from loosing the game​

Fairly balanced game overall, both teams had several chances. Bot it wasn't until before full-time whistle when substitue Hapsatou Diallo released the ragdoll physics in her inside the penalty box. Taken successfully by the other substitute Korka Fall in the right side, proving that they deserve the first spot in the group A

Tottenham Hotspur's striker Rosella Ayane made things worrying for the Senegalese, after drawing the first blood with a well taken penalty in the 13th minute.
20 minutes later left back Sumaya Komuntale with a well driven free kick right in the top corner, and Khadija Errmichi couldn't use her spider instinct to stop it. 1-1
In the second half after several gives and goes, Ghizlane Chebbak the captain the woman of my dreams with a top class long pass from a set piece finished with a header from Nesryne El Chad in the 68th minute. The goal was similar to Morocco men's goal vs Algeria in the last Arab Cup, oddly enough, both of them were scored by the centre back. So similar that I shared a comparison on my Facebook (where you can send me a friend request)


Goal scorer Sumaya Komuntale comes back again, but this time with a slap in Rosella's face resulting in her being sent off and a penalty to the Lionesses of Atlas, skillfully taken by the you know who Ghizlane Chebbak.

With this win, Morocco shares the first seat with Senegal

Zambians had the time to stop the Tunisians from ranking up in the 31st minute, after Rania Aouina brought Xiomara Mapepa just inside the box, but unfortunately for Ochumba Lubandji she aimed for a pigeon.
Just before full-time, the Copper Queens had to score a last-minute goal, to break the Tunisian hearts and snap the first spot in the group.

Another fairly balanced game, and a good display from the two goalkeepers, unfortunately, neither of whom could keep a clean sheet, thanks to a penalty taken by Mafille Woedikou in the 27th minute, and Estelle Johnson's header in the 37th

Interestingly, all goals were scored from inside the box, the Banyana Banyana scored first with an easy tap in thanks to Thembi Kgatlana in the 20th minute. Then the Abarundi with another easy tap in from Aniella Uwimana just 10 minutes after.
Their celebration couldn't last longer, because just two minutes later Amogelang Motau scored her country's second taking advantage of Burundi's bad defending.
Just before half time, the Urumundi goalkeeper Jeanine Irakoze and with amazing reflex stops Jermaine Seoposenwe from scoring the third from the 12 yard point. 10 minutes inside the second half, Jeanine had the chance to write history by saving another penalty after she brought Thembi Kgatlana down, but she was close as close as two molecules, I mean you can hear her disappointment! Regardless of that, she would show a good performance in the rest of the game. But that sadly can't help her team as they are sitting rock bottom in their group with 0 points.

This one was a must-win for the Super Falcons after their defeat against the Banyana Banyana three days before.
It was in the 21st minute when the Nigerians found hope again, a great through pass from Halimatu Ayinde and Ifeoma Onumonu with a top class finish, you can see the happiness in their celebration!
In the 3rd minute of the second half, a towering header from the 21 year old substitute Christy Ucheibe proves that the Falcons didn't came here to participate but to win. But this 2-0 victory couldn't help Nigeria that much although they are placed second, they still share the same number of points with Botswana

As @Tcee said, it's Nigeria with 11 titles, and also the reigning champions too. I mean if you know Alex Morgan's USA you'd probably remember their struggle with Nigeria :LMAO:
Morocco have done a great job, in fact they are favorites to win this edition in addition to Tunisia, Zambia and South Africa, I excluded Nigeria because of their defeat against South Africa, I know they are the greatest women team in Africa but they seem like they're struggling this year.
I'm actually proud of my countrywomen but more importantly the development of African women football overall!
 
Alright Matchday 3 start today with some interesting clashes
Morocco vs Senegal: It's the moment of truth, both of teams are going to the next round but you can't take the draw. Expect the stadium to be full thanks to the large Senegalese population in Morocco.

Burkina Faso vs Uganda: Will it be a waste, or one of them could potentially qualify as one of the best third-placed teams.

Tunisia vs Cameroon: A must win for both teams. A defeat for Tunisia means that they have to pray for being on of the two best third-placed teams, as for Cameroon they are already the second best third-placed team in the tournament, but this is not enough with only two point.

Zambia vs Togo: Zambia are going through anyway, but for Togo a win may push them into the next round. Congrats @BM Kits

South Africa vs Botswana: It's very tight in this group as South Africa need at least a draw to stay in the top, but in the case of a loss, it could get awkward, but it would potentially make them the best third-paced team in the tournament, which - at the moment - is in Botswana's possession.

Nigeria vs Burundi: This is why it's tight in this group, a win for Burundi will make them potentially qualified as one of the two best-placed teams in the tournament. But a win for Nigeria which is expected will recover their loss against South Africa

The game everyone was waiting for, who's going to grab the first place? Moroccans almost dominated the entirety of the match and looked like they would steal a goal in the early moments of the first half but lack of concentration and the strong defensive display from the Senegalese ladies made it difficult. The latter also had a fair amount of chances but Khadija Er-Rmichi had another opinion. The Lionesses of Atlas continued to dominate the Senegalese half but missed chances from Ayane, the 22 year old Dutch-born Samya Hassani, Chebbak, Tagnaout and Mssoudy couldn't make any difference.
But it wasn't until 51st minute, when right back Salimata Ndiaye stopped a cross from Ghizlane Chabbak with her left hand inside the box, offering Morocco a ticket to the next round with the full mark, in which Chebbak didn't disappoint by choosing placement over power, sticking the sphere into the left side of the net. To be able to defend their lead, Moroccan had to deal with the physical strength and speed of Senegalese ladies, especially the runs of the substitute Hapsatou Diallo but Khadija Er-Rmichi came to the rescue in several attempts.

Another must win game for both teams hoping for a potential qualification to the next round as a one of two best third-placed teams. Goalkeepers in this game were the villains, no not for scoring goals but letting goals in. Remember Mariam Ouattara from matchday 1? Well, she is back again at making mistakes when in the 7th minute she misjudged a shot from Ugandan winger Margret Kunihira, but it wasn't the mistake that grabbed the highlight, it was the great vision from Shamirah Nalugya who had the assist to her name. What a finish!
As I said earlier, "When it rains it pours", that's what happened to Burkinabès just 10 minutes after the first goal when the referee sent off Madinatou Rouamba after she stopped a goal scoring chance while being the last defender.
Ugandans didn't take advantage of that, so they had to pay, well they payed in quite a humiliating fashion in the 32nd minute, when midfielder Adama Congo scored the equalizer with an outstanding individual play, I mean just look at it! You just simply can't be better than that!
Goalkeeper Mariam Ouattara can't stop making mistakes again, giving the ball to Ugandan players who didn't fail to take advantage and scored from just outside the box by Sandra Nabweteme in the 38th minute, again Ouattara let it slide into the net.
Lo and behold, just two minutes later, 10-women Burkina Faso winger Balkissa Sawadogo crosses from the right side forcing Daisy Nakaziro to make the error and the deflection from 17 year old Adele Kabré gives the Mares a chance to balance the game.
Wasted chances here and there couldn't do a thing for both teams but preventing them from having a potential qualification to the next round.

As expected, Morocco and Senegal are through

Although a draw could have been enough to lead them through, both of the teams were looking for a win to avoid any consequences. Cameroon were very quick to strike, in the 3rd minute of the game Michaela Abam received the ball from Ajara Nchout and finished it in the Tunisian net with a precise left foot drive!
The Eagles were eager to grab the equalizer, but unluckily for them they couldn't find the net after missing their share of attempts. Things came crumbling down when Ajara Nchout scored the second in the last minutes of the game, stealing the second place from Tunisia!
Cameroon are through, but Tunisia were hoping for Togo to either draw or lose against Zambia in order to stay in the third place

Zambia didn't let the Tunisians down, as the Copper Queens showed a goal fest against the Togolese.
But first they had to face the amazing reflex of Amouklou Amé when she saved Lushomo Mweemba's penalty in the first minute of the game.
The Copper Queens didn't have to wait longer, as in the 15th minute Grace Chanda received the ball from Ochumba Lubandji, broke the Togolese offside trap, dribbled the goalkeeper and finally finished it. And just 5 minutes later, Ireen Lungu catches the goalkeeper out of her lines and chip the ball from outside the box scoring the second for her country.
In the 35th minute, Yawa Konou takes the free kick from the halfway line but Hazel Nali couldn't catch the ball as she misjudged where it would land, thus leaving Mafille Woedikou to finish the ball in the back of the net. 6 minutes later a superb left footed finish from Xiomara Mapepa widens the gap again and gives the Zambians a push to look for more goals. This will come 15 minutes into the second half, when the header of Grace Chanda ends the Togolese hopes and secures the first place for The Copper Queens.

Zambia and Cameroon are through, the latter had to ruin the mood for Tunisian pushing hem back to the third place.
Nonetheless Tunisia qualified as the best third-placed team. But they had to know this after the next matches

There is no highlights video on CAF TV YouTube channel, so I can't put videos from other channels.

Banyana Banyana were looking for at least a draw to stay in the top of the group, especially after defeating Nigeria in the first match. They dominated the ball overall but couldn't find the net, they were actually close to score a screamer courtesy of Kholosa Biyana in the 71st minute after a great build up play, but Sedilame Boseja denied it. In the 80th minute Biyana intercepted the ball in the halfway line that lead to a counter-attack which was finished by substitute Nthabiseng Majiya who was there for the rebound.

The Swallows couldn't change the fact that they are the worst team of the tournament, especially when you realize that they are playing against the powerhouse of Nigeria, who are looking for nothing but a win to save their defeat to South Africa.
Things started to look promising for the Super Falcons, when Rasheedat Ajibade scored a penalty in the 25th minute. And not even 2 minutes after the goal, Peace Efih scored the second exploiting the deflection from Rachelle Bukuru in front of the goal.
Just seconds after this goal, Uchenna Kanu scores and easy tap in, widening the margin to three goals.
Same lady would score the fourth for her country just seconds after the second half kick off.

It was obvious that we will see South Africa in the second round, mostly thanks to beating Nigeria. The latter wouldn't let the destiny see them out of the tournament in such an early stage, especially being the team with the most titles.
Luckily for Botswana, Burkina Faso didn't win, thus allowing them through the next round

Quarter-finals

Senegal took the lead in the 61st minute courtesy of Nguenar Ndiaye's header. Zambia had the level the game just ten minutes later, when Avell Chitundu finished the ball with her head after the error of Senegalese goalkeeper and debutante Tening Sene Afa. This error cost her country the qualification to the semis, as Senegal lost in the penalty shootouts 4-2 in the way Zambians usually do it, where Hazel Nali the goalkeeper scored the last penalty to end the game

Zambia is through to the semi-finals and will feature in the FIFA Women's World Cup Australia and New Zealand for the first time in history, again congrats @BM Kits

As expected from Morocco, they were quick to take the lead, as that came at the second minute of the game, a cross from Fatima Tagnaout finished by Sanaa Mssoudy. Botswana wouldn't let the Lionesses celebrate longer, as Khadija Er-Rmichi couldn't save a top corner free kick credited to Keitumetse Dithebe's left foot.
Morocco is another teams that had to struggle against Botswana, but it wasn't until 60th minute when Yasmin Mrabet finished Fatima Tagnaout's cross with her head, giving the joy back to the fans.

Morocco is through to the semi-finals and will feature in the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup Australia and New Zealand for the first time in history

The task has been a little difficult to Nigeria, they are expected to win this game to at least feature in the World Cup, but also expected to win this tournament as they always did.
The Super Falcons had to wait until the 56th minute to see the light, thanks to Rasheedat Ajibade's header.

Nigeria is through to the semi-finals and will feature in the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup Australia and New Zealand for the ninth time, simply outstanding!

Tunisia's campaign had to come to an end, and South Africa was the one assigned this task. I have only witnessed the first half, and I can't even describe how I was amazed by the skill show of Noxolo Cesane.
Both of the teams had their fair amounts of attempts on goal, counter-attacks here and there, made the game very intense and the fans on their feet.
But the Banyana Banyana had to end the game in the 13th minute after the break through and finish from Jermaine Seoposenwe.

With this win, South Africa is through to the semi-finals and will feature in the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup Australia and New Zealand for the second time in history.​

The road didn't end there for Senegal, Botswana, Cameroon and Tunisia. They still have a chance to qualify to the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup inter-confederation play-offs through repechage.
Senegal will meet Tunisia, and Botswana will be facing Cameroon. Both games will be played in 17 July 2022 in Prince Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat. So I'm rooting for you guys @EVOL_666 @H_G hopefully Tunisia will be the second representative of North Africa, since Algeria and Egypt sadly failed to qualify
