After the recent release of The Last of Us, many people have listed that as one the greatest games ever made.

So giving that the majority of players on here are probably over 30 by now and been playing games through various generations, thought it would be interesting to see what people rate as their top games of all time.
I have also done the unsung hero game as well, which is the game you really loved which you don't think many people would of heard of.

Here is my list which I put together quickly: (My list will be updated when I have put more thought into it)

1. XCOM - UFO Enemy Unknown - ORIGINAL RELEASE
2. Civilization 2
3. Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic
4. Shenmue 1 & 2
5. Not thought about this one yet, but would def say the above are the top four. As torn between Football Manager, SWOS, Grand Prix 2, Sim City 2000 and Colonization.

Best game no one played:
It Came from the Desert

Hard to remember all of them, but in no particular order, and because they had an incredible script/graphics/production/originality:

Sensible world of soccer
Mario Kart
Red Dead Redemption
Football manager
PES 2000-2004 (not sure of the numbers, I was at Uni and either stoned or drunk most of the time)

Also monkey Island 2 holds a special place in my heart.

Off the top of my head:

PoP: Sands of Time
Portal
Ocarina of Time
PES5
Bioshock
Half Life
System Shock 2

I'll probably come back to it and add more at some point.

Good thread!

1. The Last of Us

2. Red Dead Redemption

3. Ico

4. Mario Kart (SNES)

5. Bioshock

GTA: Vice City & San Andreas
Pro Evolution Soccer 3 & 5
Gran Turismo 1 & 2
Driver
Smackdown! Know Your Role & Here Comes the Pain
Metal Gear Solid 1 & 2
Championship Manager 1997
Streets of Rage 2
MDK
Tekkan 3

Those are the ones which stick out in my mind.

this is a countdown, and I'm leaving PES out of it this time.

5: Onimusha 2 (PS2)
4: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (PS2)
3: Indiana Jones and The Fate of Atlantis (PC)
2: Uncharted 3 (PS3)
1: Metal Gear Solid 3 (PS2)

I'd like to give honorable mentions to Outrun Online Arcade (PS3) for being simple yet awesome, and Tekken 4, since I think I'm the only one who thinks that is the best Tekken.

GTA: Vice City & San Andreas
Pro Evolution Soccer 3 & 5
Gran Turismo 1 & 2
Driver
Smackdown! Know Your Role & Here Comes the Pain
Metal Gear Solid 1 & 2
Championship Manager 1997
Streets of Rage 2
MDK
Tekkan 3

Those are the ones which stick out in my mind.
No Mercy was very good as well, probably my favourite WWE game.

God Hand is another one I forgot, very underrated PS2 game, love the fighting mechanics in that game.

Won't put in specific games but series instead:

1. Captain Tsubasa 1-5, The SegaCD version and the PS2 version (PS1 and various handheld versions not so much)
2. Civilization
3. PES/ISS/WE
4. Onimusha
5. GTA

These are my top 5 series. There are others that come very close like the Mario games, Yakuzas and Shenmues but since it's only 5 I can only have these in.

Easy, the only games I replay every year.

PC:
Half Life 2
Baldur's Gate II
Day of the Tentacle
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Little Big Adventure

Consoles:
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Metal Gear Solid
Uncharted 2
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Grand Theft Auto III

1. Trackmania united
2. PES5
3. GTR 2
4. CoD 1 & the united offensive expansion pack
5. GTA: SA

all for PC

I don't care which games are 'the best' but I'll list the ones that amused me the most;

1. Dark Age of Camelot (pre Trials of Atlantis)
2. World of Warcraft (pre The Burning Crusade)
3. Kick Off: Player Manager
4. Kick off 2: The final Whistle
5. The Witcher (Both, but the first was better by miles)

For all you guys saying MGS 1 or MGS 3, what did you think of MGS 4?

I thought the dialogs and characters were too childish and the story absurd, in a way the previous ones weren't. The ending was atrocius and the gameplay lacked that "beat it by thinking" approach that the previous had. The worse, though, were the characters: a 18 years old girl suddenly appointed the governor of a boat in her first mission with the goal to save the world? The pathetic level of pusruing a guy by the streets? The ammo guy and the monkey slurping cola? Raiden and all that bullshit? The pathetic wedding? The recurrent jokes about a guy shitting himself???? It was simply ridiculous. Yes, some of those things were already present before in other games, but not at this level.

Metal Gear 3 Snake Eater remains the masterwork of the series.

Chronologically the games I have probably played most...

1) leaderboard on C64
2) SWOS on Amiga
3) ISS/PES/winning 11 on ps2
4) PES on PC, every lunchtime at work for about 3 years.
5) Fifa on Xbox 360

A few non sports games I have fond memories of...

Bust a move
Cool boarders
Championship mgr
Fatal frame
PGA tour
Clumsy Colin
Monty mole speccy games.
Red dead and GTA.

Damn, its tough to pick just like desert island discs.

Ok, let's see:

The legend of Zelda (OOT and MM where my favs)
PES 4, 6 (which I'm still playing) 13 (had some awesome times with some friends this year)
Metal Gear Solid (3 without a doubt)
GTA (I don't have any favorite, I just like the series in general)
Street Fighters (the old 2D ones, especially the Alpha one)
and a special mention to FM.

That's it for me.

Using the criteria of 'most memorable' and 'most hours consumed', something like:

Planetside & Planetside 2
Football Manager series
Transport Tycoon
Counter-Strike (a while ago)
PES/FIFA

Cheating with the last one, I know, but have had ups and downs with both over the last 18-ish years. Would feel difficult to pick one, and equally impossible to neglect both.

Thinking of hours consumed, I totally forgot to include Bad Company 2 multiplayer in my list. Played this all-year round until BF3 took everyone away from it :(

It's my favourite MP experience to date.
