He wanted to leave. If barcelona wanted to keep him they would have done. Obviously he wouldn't want to leave them if they wanted him and offered him a good deal? For him to have left Barcelona, the team he supported and loved and move to Arsenal away from his family and friends, just shows you how limited he was at Barcelona.

Stealing suggests we did something illegal? we did nothing illegal.

We have no moral high ground, but the way barcelona have got quite a few of our players is by doing exactly what they are doing now. They say they respect us and can't talk about, the exact thing they are talking about?! it's fucking ridiculous. They get their players and papers to keep chatting rubbish and stiring stuff up.

All we want is a fair fee for one of the best midfield players in the world. We don't owe them anything and they don't owe us anything.

If they treated us with more respect and didn't put everything through the papers and out in the public domain, I'm sure they would be getting better results, but they are acting like dicks and it may stop them from getting Fab now.

You lot basically stole him, taking advantage of a loophole that prevents Spanish clubs from tying down players to professional terms at that stage in their career. How pissed off do you think Barcelona, who spent much money and time looking after and developing Fabregas at their cantera for many years, would have felt? He was lured by the first team prospects but their was probably a selfish gain in monetary value that Arsenal splashed at him as well to persuade him to leave his boyhood team. Even we've done it with Pique and Rossi. It's stealing from other academies and stinks of lacking ethics and class. Just because it is "legal", doesn't mean it isn't stealing.

But on the other hand, I can sympathise with the feeling that most Arsenal fans are feeling, due to what happened last summer. It's inevitable Fabregas will go back to Barcelona and I expect a fair valuation to be agreed, so I don't know what you lot are getting your knickers in a twist over.

Shit happens in football. Barcelona are a much bigger and more successful club than Arsenal. With a new president coming in, there's even more pressure to live up to promises, hence all the speculation and talk in the media by Barcelona. It's still nothing compared to what we had to put up with when Real came calling. We managed to delay it for a summer but ended up with Ronaldo having a lacklustre season. But with the market so inflated, Barcelona will have no choice but to cough up a big amount, whether this summer or next. Wenger isn't stupid. And since he's been so stubborn in having patience with his current policy at Arsenal, that hasn't yielded any trophies in five years, whose to say he won't be as equally stubborn when negotiating a big price with Barcelona, eh Jonney?

Dont eh jonney me. Most of your posts are not facts but opinions as to why fabregas joined us. If he had been given the opportunity to play first team football with barcelona he would have stayed their but he diddnt because you lot diddnt give two fucks about him back then. What would have happened if fabregas turned out to be just an average player? will barcelona still beg for him to come back? hell fucking no. The reason why you want him back is because we yes we arsenal made him an exceptional player.

Wenger is probably the BEST manager out their in terms of developing young/unknown players. Like everyone has said before, where happy to sell fabregas but not lower than 50m. 60M if he has a blinder at the world cup or stays with us for another season and does a blinder for us.

I really, really suggest you engage your brain before you reply to anyone. Seriously, there's several things in my post that even a kindergartener would have picked up on. For starters, why on earth you're addressing me as if I'm a Barcelona fan, when I've made the point that I can empathise with the situation Arsenal fans are going through because I am a Man Utd fan. You don't half make a fool out of yourself on here, do you?
 
Abou is right. If you guys think Barca abandoned him, then you've clearly got no understanding of the situation whatsoever. They had to stand and watch as Arsenal waved money (and with it a glamorous london lifestyle) at Cesc, maybe with the promise of first team football sooner than he could expect at barca (they have better players than Arsenal so that makes sense). They were powerless to stop it, the only way was if Cesc rejected you and stayed with Messi and co in the Barca youth teams.

I'm not saying I agree with how Barca are going about this now but just backing up Abou's point as he is totally correct in what he said and it seems most of you aren't aware of this issue.

I am happy for him to be sold....but for at least £50m.

Like I said before the fact he joined us so young and went virtually straight into the team has made him the player he is today. Thats why they have to cough up.
 
Surely this is only about the money now? I would have thought £40m would do it. Who is currently the most expensive non-forward player in history? Zidane right? And he was about that, in pounds (56m Euros back when Euros weren't as strong?)

Anyway, he's going to leave. It sucks. Us United fans know. But the best thing is just to get the money and get on with it. There's a balance between demanding top money and forcing the player to be miserable and push through the transfer himself. It gets ugly, and Cesc has always been a pretty nice-seeming guy.

Wenger won't spend it anyway ;)

You sold ronaldo for 80m. Your telling me fabregas is only half as good as ronaldo? i;d say fabregas is 2/3 of ronaldo if not closer so 40m is still petty change for one of the best players in the world at 22 years old with 5 years left on his contract.

even 50m is low for a player like fabregas imo. Your getting a world class player that hasnt even reached his prime and will offer you world class football for 8+ years and for 40m? Too low. 50m+ is more realistic.

How much would you sell Rooney? 40m as well?

If Barcelona one of the richest, most successful and most powerful clubs in the world wanted Fab so much back then, they would have kept him.

To suggest they were powerless to stop it is just ridiculous.

He had his family and his friends in Barcelona. He supports and loves the club. yet the glamorous lifestyle in london was a clear winner over all of that wasn't it :ROLL: (knowing what cesc is like aswell, makes this claim even more ridiculous)

We are all aware of the issue, a big deal was made of it at the time. But all clubs do it, as you said Man United do it. I'm sure Barcelona do it. It is not illegal and that's life.

If you read back all of the posts most of us are only getting our knickers in a twist because of the amount of money Barca want to pay for him and the way they have gone about trying to drive the price down.

From what I have seen, we are fine with him going for the right price (well not fine, but we have accepted it). So I don't know why people are coming in here saying otherwise?
 
value is a funny thing, because validation has a different balance when team measure it differently. Ade was important and was sold at 25m and fab has not brought much success which is barca`s value. Everyone know how fab is instrumental to our squad and that`s our stance. We are not valencia that need money. Fab wants to go to barca it`s no secret his mum and dad are not together I`m sure he misses his family . Most gooners accept that fab will leave I just don`t want to roll over...some things are worth fighting for and I was very happy to see AFC take that stance :APPLAUD:

Most people on this site hate Chelsea and Manchester City because they became big clubs throwing money around and buying players from everywhere.

Now here is Barcelona, a big club with lots of homegrown players who (like Cesc) who became big players.

Cesc left when he was 16 at a time when Arsenal were the bigger club. Now Barcelona is the bigger club and they want to buy Cesc, only they don't want to throw money around for a player who came from their formation centre. Just face it...sooner or later Cesc will leave for a price that will be too hig for Barcelona fans and not high enough for Arsenal fans.

The guy was massively important for Arsenal, let him go.

when players like milner are looking at 30million and rodwell of Everton 15-20million then you can see why Arsenal want more.

He has 5 years left on his contract, we don't really need the money and he is our captain and best player and regarded as one of the finest midfield players in the world (or at least has the potential to be one of the best).

So we should just let him go for 30million?! please that is ridiculous.

and will people stop coming in here and saying for us all to face it that he is going! like we are desperate and trying to cling onto him staying.

We know he is going, we all faced it quite a while ago, we just want to get a return on a player we actually have put alot of money into and had alot of faith in over the last few years.

he is an Arsenal player, it doesn't matter if he used to play for Barcelona etc etc. he is an Arsenal player and in this climate of what football players are being sold for, he is worth much more than 30million.

Arsenal had bigger impact on Fabregas's progress not barcelona imo. You are nto getting it at all. Why do you continue to say stuff like "face it his going" "let him ". Dont you bloody read a word we say? Most fi not ALL of us say we dont mind if he goes but not for peanuts.

Its not arsenals problem that man city and chelsea or even real madrid overprice their transfers, its the way it is. If ronaldo is worth 80-m and messi worth 100m then fabregas is easily worth close to 60m.

All we want is the appropriate money that fabregas is valued at and hsi all yours. I dont understand why you and others cant get this embedded into yoru thick skulls instead going over and over and over again with "let him go" rubbish.

Be reasonable? we are mate. ask the same question to barcelona for putting a 100m+ price tag on messi. now is that reasonable? is he worth 100m?

It'd definitely be criminal if Fabregas left for anything less than 50 million or so.

Not that I think he's worth it, but with the way the market is, Barca are mental to offer so low.

I'll tell you whats reasonable....

Conducting your transfer business in the right way, speaking with the club agreeing a deal with them and then speaking to the player. Tapping up is against FIFA rules, and its pretty obvious that this has gone on here. Barca were using the papers to set the groundwork for deal and then you have their players spouting off about Cesc joining as if its a forgone conclusion! All this before a formal bid was lodged! It lacks class....

Why should Arsenal just accept anything less than the market rate for a player who they have under contract for the next 5 years? Ok it may be an inflated market but if we are to spend some of the revenue from the Cesc deal then WE need to pay over the top to get what we want. When James Milner is rated at £30 million then you can see the problem.

I fully accept Cesc is leaving either now or in the future but there is a way to conduct business properly and I am proud of Arsenal's stance in this instance.

remember henry left at 28 for 16mil and bent went to spurs for 20 mil I think, same year. Barca knew Henry`s time was coming to a close but Fab`s was just starting. Even Villa went for 34 mil at 28 times are different from 4 years ago.

See, that's where you have to draw the line. Arsenal should get no less than 40m for Cesc, especially when we took the time to develop him into the world class player he is now.

here's what i say: all this talk about the past is one way or the other manipulative. FUCK what was. Fabregas has a contract with 5 year to go. Guess with who? with bloody Arsenal. It's either the way Arsenal wants or no way at all! Things like he has blood, it was ours, it's we who made him are just secondary. Trying to force one owner to supposedly sell his "property", and on top of that on a price which is no where near the owner's valuation, is illegal and against any kind of law or International rights standard.

big club or no club, this isn't the wild west, or a bazar, it's a business, that should be made by proffesionals.

Jonney, do you read anything anyone writes? Nearly everyone has said £30m is a low offer, you sound like a friggin madman.

BARCA DID NOT ABANDON CESC, read my post further up. There were already big signs that Cesc was going to be a great player, he was top scorer and best player at the world u17 tournament just before you took him (and this was probably when you decided to go for him) so why would Barca not want to keep him after that? Their hands were tied by unfair differences in laws in two different countries.

He only went into your first team due to injuries to more senior players, so you could argue Arsenal got lucky in allowing him to progress so early (it wasn't their intention for him to play so often so early) and also that he already had the talent and would have made it big at any club.

I know I'm playing devil's advocate a bit here and there's no doubt Arsenal played a big role in is development but there's no need to try and rewrite history. Like I said, you should get more than £30m for him,
