It's all about power (well not all, but mainly).
Man utd can score fantastic goals on the counter, and then they have a certain refinement, something artistic. But when they have to dominate it's all about power. That's not the football i like.
Teams like Barcelona, Arsenal, and occasionally Sevilla, La Coruna, As Roma play very creative football. In Cantona (especially him), Giggs and Scholes United had very creative players, but the team rarely played creative football. Even Ronaldo is much more about power and yes has not the level of artistry of Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Nasri, Cesc Fabregas and at times Arshavin.

I never come in Utd thread since i was seen as enemy number one by fantics in there...i like a good discussion, but not a lynch party.

C'mon man, Cristiano Ronaldo may be a real twat, but personality aside, that guy fits easily in the ranks of "artist footballers". That highlight against Spain (where Nani was offside and ruined his goal) was a moment of sheer brilliance that, dare I say, you don't see it coming even from Messi.

I'm fairly confident I've seen maybe 90% of our matches since 1999 and that Barcelona tie is the first time I can honestly say we went into it not looking to score.

The Milan away match, think it was a semi in 2007, you were 3-2 up from the first leg. It was like you thought you could just cruise through to the final with that one goal advantage, but Milan ended up winning 3-0 so 5-3 overall. I seem to remember it was a game where you just hit crosses into an empty box, shot from massive distances or hit free kick after free kick into the wall.

Also a few games away at Villareal over the last few years, but these could have been group stage games when you might have already won the group - I cant remember the precise details, just being bored at another strange choice for ITV's live game of the week.

Agree, especially about Crisitano. Find it a shame he's seen as such a great player, he's world class but so flawed it's crazy for the praise he gets! People REALLY need to do him a favour and stop comparing him to that Alien, he's just about in Iniesta's/xavi's league let alone that alien!

Villareal has been playing one of the most creative football since the day pellegrini came in, last year they were not that great but this year, they really fascinate me with valero in the midfield , very underated midfielder and aswel a very underrated team.

dortmund been pretty good this year but I cant agree with wolfsberg, they play great but its mostly direct counter-attacking football.

He said something along the lines of 'you can't make those silly mistakes at this level' or something similar. I thought it was a little dig aswell.

The team at times were over hitting passes and just could not get into full flow. Arshavin had two of our best chances, but at times he just doesn't look bothered? I don't know why?

I really hate the way refs delay giving out yellow cards to the opposition team at the Emirates. i have seen it a few times now and it just gives the other team licence to keep giving us digs and foul us.

Rosicky got a yellow for pushing a player over, then after that I think I counted them push our players over about 3 times and nothing? why was that? Steve Bruce's son did two challenges that deserved a yellow card much more than a push...but didn't get them at the time.

Just frustrating, but we should have played much better.

Don't know why he took off Song and kept Denilson on? Song was one of our better players imo.

Anyway, poor result and an extra game to play...not very good. But I prefer it than getting knocked out but we have alot to do at Elland Road now.

In the last WC Portugal would have been better off without Ronaldo. If you watched Portugal matchesd, you would have clearly seen the irritation of the other players about Ronaldo's selfisch (and ineffective) way of playing.

Why would i hate a football player? To be honest with you and with myself, there is not a single person on earth that i hate. There are persons i don't like, but they are all persons i know personally. I don't like the public figure Ronaldo, but it is very well possible that he is a nice guy in private.
I was talking about the football player and saying that IMO he is overrated and that is just an opinion like millions of other opinions. I don't see why there would be any hate involved.

If there was any anger at all in my previous post, then i'm not aware of it and if so: i'm sorry.
it is thrue that i was irritated about the post that i quoted, but that showed a big lack of respect for lesser known competitions and for players that are not seen as world stars, but are very good players.

Exactly, arrogance is the word, but we would expect nothing less from a Man Utd fan on here to be honest judging by the others who post on here. He completely ignores the fact that Lavezzi had made his debut for Argentina while at San Lorenzo (April 2007). Argentina is probably the strongest national squad in the world for attacking players, so if he can make it into that squad while playing at San Lorenzo then it's easily the same level to make a comparison.

The level of techinal skill in the Argentine League is far in excess of what's on display at Old Trafford week in week out.

So, while the physical power is very obvious in his game, there's no denying that the guy is a wizard with the ball.

Ability and power aside, yes, he is selfish most times, arrogant and his ego is too fucking big to fit the corridors of Bernabeu. But the guy is a genius, there's no denying that IMO.

Corrected! Top player yes, but not a genuis. true Genuis and Athleticism, pace, poaching etc.. are two different things, there are some average players Crisitano is leagues ahead of in ability who far more vision and creativity, and that 'genius' which defines a legend

I agree Portugal were a poor, boring, functional team but Ronaldo fucking hindered that team with his play. Totally wrong he was an advanced midfielder - Gaston Fernandez and Andres Silvera were the strikers, he was playing in an advanced midfield infront Osmar Ferreyra and with Cristian Ledesma. Kaka is not the same role as what Adriano played.

You're being rather selective in saying he scored 8 goals, you've just taken his goal tally in the Clausura. This is in effect half the season (19 games), if you take it over his whole time at San Lorenzo it's 46 goals in 73 games.

Maybe it's better you don't comment until you know at least a little bit about Argentine Football ?

As for Ronaldo, no one is saying he's a bad player, but I see your highlight clips didn't show him missing the PK in the shoot out in that same match - it wasn't exactly his best game.

What else did he do after that? i didn't see him from the rest of the game, he was up against a non right back in Essien, who then moved to his correct position in the second half, I didn't see Crisitano after that, maybe he left the iron on, i don't know. All i know is next time i saw him is he missed a penalty
