Nolan did get a yellow yes. Only things the ref got wrong is giving the second pen, which was really soft, and disallowing Best's goal which should have been given. As much as I like Arsenal, they are just looking for someone to blame.

Exactly my thoughts.
As a neutral i would have preferred an Arsenal win because Utd lost...on the other hand Newcastle were great in that second half and deserved something out of this match. This could prove to a very important point for Newcastle's team spirit and give them a boost for the next matches.

Nolan was a fucking twat. he headlocked our goalie and that was shocking. so what if our goalie hogged the ball. let the ref deal with him if its an offense.
tackles where too hard imo. if it was a arsenal player doing it, people would moan how dirty we are. whenever we do hard taclkes we get punished and slated for it. hypocrites. not saying you are though.
ref was shit. 1st pen was a maybe in my book but the 2nd one was a fucking joke. even the free kick which led to there equalizer was silly with barton going down like a pussy with minimum contact by rossisky.

I still maintain that both penalties were as soft as they come. Without these and with the disallowed goal that was onside, in the end it would be maybe 4-3 at best?

You have ways to sustain a lead, hold the ball up field, pull off some antics, "injuries", time-wasting... anything to slow down the tempo. And, of course, start kicking the shit out of the opposition and wind them up, try to get them a red card to even things out. With hotheads like Barton, shouldn't be too hard.
Instead, those 10 kids actually thought they could carry on playing their attractive football against an ill-intentioned ref and 11 freaks with a license to kill on the pitch.
AW is not publicly blaiming any of his players, for which he's a great leader and I praise him. But he's certainly not teaching them the "dirty" side of the game, the one that brings you victory no matter how.

I stand corrected: only Barton is a freak with a license to kill. And Nolan is not a freak per se, but he can headlock anyone he wants, apparently.
What I really mean is the (lack of) criteria in Dowd's decisions was apalling, if you look at both penalties and some fouls not given to Arsenal (like Van Persie being brought down in the edge of the box).
All in all, most of the Newcastle squad had nothing to do with that disgrace, just kept believing and actually did pull it off incredibly, so credit to them still.

You miss the point don't you? What counts here is a players conduct and behaviour on pitch. We know these things wouldn't hurt a man in a man's game - even though Barton did look like a pussy pretending to be dizzy after Diaby's nudge on the back of his neck. And Nolan is big enough not to get hurt with two hands pushing his chest, isn't he? Isn't it a man's game?
Still, Diaby - as stupid as he was with that reaction - was the only one sanctioned.
The hard tackles amount to much more than that one Barton made on Diaby. He tackled Arshavin badly from behind in the first half (not even a foul was given) and, seconds later, he stamped Diaby on purpose. See the point now? How outrageous it is that Barton completes 90 minutes not being booked?

Believe it or not, I'm putting our chances down to Djourou coming back. Have absolutely zero confidence in Squillaci at the moment, add that to Sagna suspended and Song possibly out too. That's our whole right defense.
We won't have Almunia either who operated miracles last year.
On the brighter side our front three is in better form than ever, Arshavin/Walcott are FAST and will hit you on the counter. Also we have been scoring from long balls from Fabregas/Wilshere, Koscielny has a good distribution, and that may be our escape route if you decide to do that avalanche pressing early.

Yeah without Djourou fit I think we are going to get bummed. Not that I think Djourou is Superman, but he just adds some solidarity to the defence.
The thing with this team is that even if we play well and go 1-0 up, this team can self destruct at any minute. So if a few decisions go against us, then we get frustrated etc our mentality is so weak in alot of respects.
There may be a chance we can win the first leg, but they will get at least a goal and that away goal will put them in the driving seat back at their place and then we will get super bummed.
All we can hope for is that our team don't shit themselves and believe they can do it. Attacking wise, we can cause them alot of problems. I just hope Barca have an off day.
But in the end if we lose, we will be doing so to one of the best teams that have ever played the game imo and against one of the best players ever at the top of his game aswell. So there is definately no shame in losing as long as we really do try our best.

We could stand a small chance if we had Nasri, Djourou and Song IMO. But our team began to fall apart again at the wrong time.
The only way for us to get through would be if Barça had a dismal performance. Very rare, but still a slim possibility. I think they lost a few weeks ago to lesser teams (Real Betis or Hercules?)...
But to be honest, I'm expecting us to exit the tournament with dignity. A draw and a loss by a small margin at Nou Camp... something like this, that doesn't shake our confidence for the other 3 title bids.
