I'm sorry but this isn't making sense to me, Gerd. Being injury prone doesn't stop anyone from being world class. Or are you telling me that Marco Van Basten wasn't world class till the very end of his career?
About the loyalty thing, you are right, we cannot expect it from professionals today (decades ago it was different). But Van Persie is (was) the captain of the club, so he shouldn't have done that. You don't see Arsenal fans slagging off Cesc Fabregas, because he was a real professional about it. The guy went quiet and remained respectful to the club until the end.
Loyalty cannot be expected nowadays from players, who are much like whores, but funnily enough, Arsenal is much more loyal to its players than they are to the club. Think about it: Abou Diaby could have been offloaded seasons ago, but the club and manager keep faith in him (I would have done it by now, as I think he's not a good footballer). The same with Robin Van Persie - he became what he is today because the club believed in him, invested in him and provided him a platform to develop. This guy played with the greats, you know, Dennis Bergkamp, Henry, Vieira, Pires... maybe one day it would be his time to pass on the torch to some younger players, but he chose not to be an Arsenal legend and move on.
I don't want to sound like a hypocrite here, as I have no idea of what it is to be on RvP's shoes, but I'd like to think that, being already rich (earning £80k a week, surely wouldn't need more than that?) I would be loyal to Arsenal and wouldn't back stab Arsene Wenger, the man who believed in me and gave me the captain armband. I'd like to think I would do that, but my vision is too clouded as an Arsenal fan.
In the end, he doesn't have to stay at Arsenal. It's his choice and it has to be respected. But you cannot expose the club like that, this is what pisses us all off. Robin has lost a lot of respect IMO.
