Arsenal Thread

Szczesny will be good, he's still very young for a goalkeeper and he'll only get better. I don't think they're are many keepers as good as him at his age. It's also only his second year as our first keeper, so we don't need a keeper. What we DO need is a defensive midfielder. Diaby is good when he plays, but unfortunately, he's injured a lot so we need a signing. I guess Diamé would be a good and cheap option.
 
Yep Seaman was a legend and Lehmann was great for us as well in recent times, if you don't remember them you must be very young :PP

Szcz with his love for Arsenal and his potential should be given the chance he is being given imo.

Gerd, De Gea is seen as one of the best young goalkeepers, but I don't think his presence is any better than Szcz?

Bebo I know where you are coming from, but I think having another player breathing down your neck isn't the only thing that motivates players. With Szcz character I can see many other things that will be motivating him to improve his game and get better and better.
 
Lehman ? I remember him really good but I don't think he was good enought !

About seaman I can't tell much about him as I hardly remember but I mean after him
 
Weird match. Only one team in it for the last 35 minutes, but some of the defending...

Santos is a ticking time bomb of a defender. Better to play a reserve player there imo.
 
As I predicted, we started off being absolutely shit. Unfortunately.

On their first goal I counted 4 mistakes! It's no joke. I maintain that the defence gets exposed by the offensive system, but you have to hand it to those boys. They do know how to fuck things up.

Also, my quick two cents about Sczcesny: he's got great shot stopping abilities, but he still looks like a clown more often than not. He almost handed it to Sturridge when the game was 0-1 and I don't know what the hell he was thinking. When you're the last man you don't try to dribble the attacker, not even if you're a centre back, let alone the GK.
Also, he doesn't know when to charge and when to stand his ground. Henderson had a chance when Szcz didn't really need to run towards the ball. And then, he gives up halfway there!! It's the kind of thing you have to make up your mind and commit to. Instead, he started going back to goal and was left in no man's land. Thankfully Henderson put it over the bar. If it was Gerrard though, it would probably be a goal.

As usual, we fought back and got level and could have gone up. But in the end, André Santos almost cost us the match.
If Gibbs injury is serious we're fucked. Wenger has 24 hours!

All in all, I'm not happy with the result because we shouldn't get behind the scoreline to begin with. What we saw there was amateur hour and you get punished for that at this level.

Beachryan said it best a ticking time bomb. The moment HENDERSON nudges him off like a school boy I was worried and then Henderson scores ,looking like Drogba-esque :LOL:

Vermaelen to the Left and Kosc at the back. I think a defensive player is what`s needed most not a goal scorer.
 
Yeah, Henderson did what he wanted there it was pathetic from Santos.

See how thin our squad is, if we play Vermaelen as left back and use Kos + Mertesacker, then we're one whisker away from Squillaci.

As for Samba, I wouldn't count on Arsenal offering him more than QPR. If we missed out on Julio Cesar because of money, I could see the same happening with Samba. He is after money, after all isn't he? Where is he playing now, China, Qatar?

But Arsenal don't put their money where their mouth is. Wenger is trying to get "exceptional talent" but he can't even pay what the market determines for most players. He didn't come to terms with modern sugar daddy football world, I'm afraid.
If it's true that we offered £8m for David Villa then Barcelona mustn't take us seriously. They paid what, 40m euros for him 2 years ago? How are they gonna let him go for that?
 
Not the whole, we should buy any defender that is available stuff again :LOL: our defence was crap but the ball rebounded off of two players and landed back at the feet of Henderson for a tap in, so he got very lucky as well for his goal. (the first goal was a farce though)

I still don't think it is any individual defender, so even if we did get Samba or any other defender he would be a jibbering wreck like the others. The mentality and the belief need to be instilled in our defence before anything is going to improve.

True, Ok forget a CB get a DM that provides cover for the back fuck ups .
Swiss cheese would be a great advert! I see it now, Verm & Sagna say "if you think you missed a bite. " Then ,Per walks up and say "bite again." Finally , Andre comes with a hole puncher in his hands and say "hey, you like my cheese".

Arsene Wenger's voice says "make sure it's Swiss Cheese and not someone else holes." Then thousand of ball land in the net.

I just watched the second half. Very good attacking performance but abysmal defending.
Santos is indeed a disaster and Sagna is a shadow of his former self.

But i blame 50% on the fact that Arsenal never (never !) has had a a really good GK: Seaman, Lehmann, Almunia, and the current one (i'm sorry no disprespect to the guy but i'm sick and tired of his name)...Seaman was overrated like almost every English GK (the last world class GK England has had was Gordon Banks, one of the best ever even, but Shilton, Seaman and Hart are all tragically overrated).
A team like Arsenal needs a top 20 GK, Lehman has been a top 20 GK, but never when he played forArsenal. Seaman was at best a top 50 GK and Szeszny (or whatever) isn't even in the top 100. Hell both Gk from my favourite belgian team are better than him and that is their weak link...

Yesterday Bobby replied to my post about your Polish GK's lack of presence that De Gea hasn't got the presence Schmeichel has. I agree with that, but De Gea has outstanding reflexes and then you need presence less. Maybe i missed quite a lot but IMO Szeszny isn't a good instinctive goal keeper...He is decent overall, but not a GK for a club who has defensive weaknesses for years now...

I enjoyed watching Arsenal yesterday, but imo 2-2 is not a good result (for both teams). Iwanted Arsenal to win, but was over the moon because my favourite Brittish player scored (Henderson).

Seaman was a great keeper imo (although he was backed up by a great defence most of the time) I don't know if he was in the top 20 goalkeepers at the time, but for Arsenal he was fantastic. Lehmann was unpredictable but I also loved him and again he wasn't the best goalkeeper in the world at all, but we had him and we were INVINCIBLE! ( ;)) )

So I don't think you need a top 20 goalkeeper, you need a very good keeper that is willing to fight and win and gives your defence confidence. Szcz is by no means the finished article, but I believe he can be a very good and with his love for the club is invaluable, he deserves the patience given to him at the moment. Top 20 I don't care, as long as he does well for Arsenal.

He made a couple of poor decisions yesterday (The pissing about at the back and going for the corner where it had to be cleared off of the line) but he also made a couple of great saves. When he came out to Henderson at the edge of the area (and Henderson tried to lob him) I thought he made the right decision as if he stayed in goal it would have been a much easier chance for Henderson to score. It was unorthodox and looked like a mistake, but I though he did well, especially when Henderson kept it just outside of the area and Szcz didn't dive in our do anything rash.

He will make mistakes, but he will learn from them (Hopefully) and get better and better.

MAybe he isn't the best keeper to have at the moment with our mentally fragile defence, but if we got in a more experienced keeper to be our no.1 I think it will have much more of a detrimental effect on Szcz than a positive. It might be better for Arsenal in the short term, but in the long term I would rather stick with Szcz.

Our defence has serious mental issues though, they are very aware of themselves fucking up and this is leading to them concentrating to hard and trying not to make mistakes, which is making them make mistakes.

I remember when I was younger and would walk past a hot girl and I wanted to walk cool etc but the more I thought about it, the more weird my walk would be and didn't look cool at all.....This is what is happening with our defenders and a psychologist needs to come in and sort them all out :DD
 
Is it just me Bobby, but i never see a hot girl walking past Vermaelen and co...yesterday i only saw Henderson...i will certainly watch out better in the future.



PS: i don't need to say that the above is not serious.

Maybe it was Suarez devilishly good looks that made them go weak at the knees ;))
 
I think we need a keeper who won't be trying clever turns inside his 6 yard box in front of the striker. That is what we need. Nevermind a top 20.

Szczesny has great shot stopping abilities. On their first goal he made an outstanding save before our defence decided to hand the ball back to Suarez.
But he's chaotic and cocky not in a good way. The pissing about has to stop. A serious keeper like Seaman or Lehmann would never let that happen.

I think De Gea is just as erratic. Have you seen Southampton's goal yesterday? The guy went in jumping like a gazelle! I still don't know what the hell was that.

Anyway, I stand by my opinion that we needed a senior keeper ahead of Szcz, but that won't be addressed in 24 hours. We need a defensive midfielder badly. Ramsey isn't cut out to do that DM role, not his ideal position, nor Arteta's.
Again, if you're going to expose your defence committing everybody upfront, at least you should employ a proper hard man to patrol that area and cover our arses when the shit hits the fan.

Is that Diame guy from West Ham a proper hatchet man or more like a Diaby? He's the only midfielder we seem to be linked with.

Lots of keepers have tried to do stupid stuff in their areas before and Szcz won't be the last one. Hopefully he learns from this and does it less and less (Or stopping it altoether would be great).

I don't think he is that Chaotic and he is cocky in some ways but quite humble and self aware, so I think it dilutes his cockiness somewhat. Lehmann was erratic as well, many times he would come for punches or steam out of the area etc and I think I remember a couple of Seaman footwork in the box that was quite worrying.

You can't keep swapping keepers though, so if you get a senior keeper in now, then he has to be number one and that will limit Szcz games to cup games here and there.

This is the reason I think it will be detrimental to his development now and his involvement with Arsenal. Because he has tasted playing regularly and going back to be a reserve keeper will not only knock his confidence but he will want to play regularly and there will be many smaller clubs willing to give him that.

It is a tricky situation, ideally we would have had this senior keeper now and for another 2 years or so he would be our number 1 and Szcz would come in gradually.....but I feel it is too late for this now.

We do need a strong defensive midfielder Diame is from West Ham, but I also don't know too much about him but I hear people talking about him a lot and how good he would be for us....but then it could be that we have needed one for so long people are just going crazy like when Scott Dann and Chris Samba were supposed to be the best defenders in the world a season or so ago and why was Wenger so stupid not to buy them...sort of thing.
 
I'm not sure if gerd is getting his fair share of dairy. He always seem to think Belgiums are better ,when he compare to other players. The world can't argue , because we know F' all bout that league and the fact he thought RVP was not good enough for Arsenal and is a hype player by the gooners.

I think theirs a fine line btw predictions and facts, Wimpy or McDonaldo....
