I'm saying in an open goal incident like this, you shouldn't be allowed your GK for the pen. You'd have to put an outfield player in.
Just dishing out a yellow and a pen in circumstances like Robben's rewards the culprit.
 
The red card rulle for a gk is a stupid rule.
Apart from that i'm not so sure if Robben had a clear goal scoring opportunity. I'm watching the matc on Dutch television and former international forward Youri Mulder also thinks this wasn't a goal scoring chance because the pass was a very difficult one. IMO that ref is a coward. Should have given Boateng a second yellow...
 
I don't mean to sound paranoid, but it really does feel that European refs don't have any qualms about sending off players for English clubs.

The sheer number of 10 on 11 match ups between English clubs and other big European teams in the past 5 season is staggering. I can't think of one time it's gone the other way.

I mean, even if you ignore Nani's last year, the absolute joke of a second yellow for RVP at the Nou Camp immediately springs to mind. And of course Ovrebo's 'performance'.

It ruins the sport as a spectacle, and a product too. I mean, these were supposed to be two marquee matches, and both have been pretty boring because of the reds. And the second legs are now less attractive too.

In the end football is here for entertainment. If a rule change would improve that, I'm all for it.
 
The game got really boring after the red card....that ref stop giving yellow cards , Martinez hacks down Nacho n nada! Rosicky tackles n boom one for you :LOL:
 
Wenger should look at using Ozil as a false 9 in big games, until they get a proper striker.

At least he could drop deep and feed the more direct players like Podolski or Ox, without being a defensive liability as someone like Rosicky could be brought in his place to shore up midfield.
 
oh well, lets hope we get another performance at their ground like we got last year and it can give us some hope.

An unlucky night for Arsenal, first of all Gibbs gets injured this means that Monreal has to come on in a difficult part of the game and pretty much not warmed up or ready. He then doesnt track Robben for the penalty and Sir Chesney has to either (a) not go for the ball and prob let in an away goal or (b) try and go for it but risk a penalty and possible red card. He's then sent off and so Arsenal have to make a second sub and it's not even half time.

They have to play almost an hour but with only one sub left. They cant really make this last sub until around 75-80 mins as if they make it earlier they run the risk of playing with 9 men for a substantial part of the game (if they get an injury after making the 3rd sub). So they have to play around 50 mins 10 vs 11 with no chance of fresh legs.

Regarding the penalty and red card rule change, at the very least UEFA should say if your keeper is sent off you can bring on your sub keeper for an outfield player but it doesnt use up one of the three substitutions. Even in this scenario you are still a man down, you still give away a PK, but at least you have options to make substitutions later on.
 
FIFA seriously should reconsider that rule. Football is formemost a spectacle and that rule kills the spectacle time and time again.
Usually i tend to defend referees but Rizzoli didn't exactly cover himself in glory.
Boateng should have get a yellow card for that foul on Gibbs, but he didn't have the guts to do it because Boateng had a previous yellow and that would have meant a sending off. Deciosons like that are match deciders...
You can't blame him for the sending off afterwards but the decision not to give Boateng a second yellow had a major influence on the match.

It's quite ironic that somebody who idolises Mourinho can find the football of Guardiola's teams boring...baffles me. Well each to their own, i guess...

This said, yesterday's Bayern was beatable...what a shame...

Arsenal should buy Thomas Muller. Apparently Pep considers him not good enough for Bayern, imo he is one of the most clever players in the world.
 
this stupid rule ruined 3 CL matches. penalty is enough "punishment" for such things.

i lost any will to watch those games (man city, levekusen and now arsenal) when refs showed red cards and penalties.

this must be changned!

Not true at all. He's still a very vital and important part of the team. Having Götze and Thiago in the squad offers wider tactical possibilities and varieties which leads to situations like these when there's just too many great players for too few spots. Next game it could be Götze or Robben taking seat on the bench just like it happened to Toni Kroos who didn't even get to play one single minute in two of the last three games. I as a Bayern fan still don't know exactly what to think about Pep, but so far he's been fair to every single player giving them as much playtime as possible. Besides, Thomas Müller is never ever going to leave Bayern, I'd bet my house on that :)
 
I'm wondering if it will hurt the German national team in the long run though. If you have Müller, Kroos, Schweinsteiger, Götze, possibly Draxler and Rode all competing with each other (and good non-German players like Alcantara, Jabi Garcia, Robben, Ribery and Shaqiri) for a limited number of places in the team will it stagnate their development. You are potentially talking about 5 of the best German midfielders and it seems inevitable that at least 1 or 2 wont be able to develop. Even Guardiola, with his infatuation with midfielders, can only field a certain number in a team. For instance he might play Götze as a "false 9" but then he just signed Lewandowski and has (for now) Mandzukic so that doesnt seem that logical.

For the German national team it's probably best if at least 2 of those very talented players don't stay with Bayern.

Things definitely won't get any easier, especially for players like young Rode who's supposedly on the verge of joining Bayern this summer. One really needs to question the sanity of those guys. I get it, it's Bayern, you never know if that chance is gonna come around again, but then, competing with Schweinsteiger, Javi Martinez, Thiago and Kroos? He's talented, no doubt about that, but that's just downright insane. There's also Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, a 19 year old Danish youngster who could very well turn out to be the next big thing in Bayern's defensive midfield.

Draxler, on the other hand, is a whole different story. Four, five years from today, he's gonna be among the very best in the world. His talent and potential is mind-bogglingly sublime. I can totally see him playing for Bayern and I can see why they're highly interested in getting him. But there's also a risk in that. They'd need to get him this summer, otherwise he's probably gonna join one of the other European giants which would make a move to Bayern impossible. But then, like you already said, Edmundo, things would just get too crowded. They got a perfect balance now, but every new player would definitely mean someone else would have to leave. Maybe they could still "park" them at their current clubs for the next one or two years knowing that Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Robben and Ribéry already passed their 30's. So starting to invest in the future of the club wouldn't be the dumbest thing to do this summer. Oh well, guess we'll see :)

Arsenal can't catch a break with UEFA, can they? Just when we were playing some excellent stuff, full of energy and finally giving the opposition keeper a good workout (not just any keeper, but one Manuel Neuer).

And poor Szczesny, it certainly isn't a first for him. This stupid rule reduced his Euro 2012 experience with Poland to less than 30 minutes.

This rule is a game breaker indeed.
Certainly not a first for Arsenal either. This rule destroyed our 2006 Champions League final too.

How can you measure the intent of the keeper? They have to charge off their line and reduce the striker's angle.
So what was he supposed to do, extend a red carpet and let Robben score? Because, God forbid, if you touch him he will go to ground and you'll be sent off. Oh, and this decision has to be taken in a split second.

As for Özil, his performances have been appalling lately. I hope he sorts his attitude and get back to his best. In the meantime, he should be 'spared' and not be thrown into the fire.
I am really bewildered by Wenger's decisions to a) allow him to take the penalty, a player with a shaken confidence (who had missed a penalty already in this competition) up against a German National teammate who knows only too well how he takes his penalties; b) leave him on the pitch for the whole 90 minutes, when we had better options.

The answer to both situations was Cazorla. I don't know if he had a fitness issue to play all 90 minutes, but he certainly should have taken the penalty.

Oh well... Let's try to look at the positives. Sanogo was a real pleasant surprise and I'd rather use him more instead of Giroud until Olivier gets his shit together.
And Oxlade-Chamberlain once again one of our very best players. He was our man of the match against Liverpool last Saturday and yesterday he put in another great performance. Great things await this kid if he keeps it real.
 
What an interesting game last night! Well, I was surprised to see Arsenal so brave and would've loved to see the match 11 vs 11. I think they would had a fair chance for a great result then.

That being said, I think the red card is right and within the rules, where the rules to change on the other hand, I would not oppose that either.

imo that wasn´t the case today..Sunderland never started playing this game... they were piss poor today.

Arsenal were good, but Sunderland were shite..

Spurs and Arsenal were also poor against Liverpool. Wat in your opinion was the reason for their poor performance ? I think you will agree that it was Liverpool being very strong ? Ok ?

Now try and adapt the same reasoning for Sunderland and Arsenal...
