No, you shouldn't have been winning trophies right away. I think it was 2008, wasn't it?
But to get to the point where you have a squad with Yaya, Silva and Aguero first you had to make some dodgy signings - people like Robinho, Adebayor, Santa Cruz, etc.
Then, a team that was constantly rubbish started to get better and, more importantly, get more credibility. When those aforementioned big players realised there was stability to this thing, they started joining as well.

As I said, there is a hit and miss element to building a club on financial steroids. And even some 'wrong' signings are a necessary stepping stone to get the squad to the level where it's at. Therefore, you can't write off the period before 'you started challenging for the title'. It's just silly.

As for Arsenal, I'm not sure what you're trying to say.
Vieira, Bergkamp, Henry, Pires, Campbell, et al, won the double in 2002 and won the 2004 league title unbeaten. What more did you want from them? To win Arsenal a Champions League while in their 40s, or help a squad of youngsters win stuff from 2007 onwards through inspiration and spiritual guidance? :LOL:

That was the initial claim I was replying to.

Yes, I agree, clearly, we had to build the club up with those types of signings first. That's why I chose a 3/4 year period to compare spending between City and the title contenders, pointing out that since becoming title contenders our spending hasn't overshadowed the spending of the others to such a degree that the initial claim would be a valid one.

The initial claim was actually just an offhand remark by Bobby. This has gone on and on because people haven't understood my argument, it would seem. Maybe that's my fault.

RE: Henry et al. It was a joke to point out the absurdity of using past players/money in that way.
 
Arsenal confirmed Bendtner, and Park were released from the club..good luck. Park what a joke! Went on loan to Watford to play on the reserves :LOL:

If we brought Cescy, Balotelli and Griezmann around 80mill then 20mill on a right back and New def mid......£100mill budget spent.

We probably don't need Cescy back, as competition in that midfield would be fierce, but knowing our injury problems, it could be perfect ;))

I think if we can get a right back, proper big, effective def midfielder and a top quality striker, we could be in business next season. anything else would be icing on the cake.

Although now I think of it, Vermaelen will probably leave, so we need another defender and also we need a back up keeper.

It's going to be an important summer.......what's the betting we end up with nobody? ;))
 
I really think Wenger will buy Vela back and he should. He's had a great season with Sociedad and he's an absolute bargain. Even if it doesn't work out (again) we could still sell him on with profit. Or perhaps we could involve him in a deal for Griezmann.

I don't fancy getting Balotelli, seems like too much of a hassle.

I would like to see Serge Aurier as our new right-back, he's been very impressive at Toulouse this season. Was also voted as the best right-back in Ligue 1. Defensive midfielder will be though. Javi Martínez would be a dream come true, but he would expensive.
 
Its a risk, but if you can get the best out of him it would be great. Idealy i would like a couple more decent strikers with Giroud so we can go to a 442 when necessary.
 
if lewandowski didn't choose bayern over real last summer(they even tried to hijack his winter deal with bayern), real could have sold benzema to you instead of özil, I think özil's a fantastic player, still not exactly as vital need for arsenal as a center forward like benzema, though. anyways, agree with you that you should really get such player this summer. epl will be so good next season.
 
Wenger talking rubbish I heard. During the CL final he said "Benzema “could play his last game for Real Madrid today”.

He added: “I’m sure Benzema will play in the Premier League one day.”


That is so unlike Wenger ,it might be the FACup arrogance :LOL: Im curious to see how Giroud/Benz link up at the WC.

true, but 3 clubs already tried to get the best of him and it didn't work that well. at some point u gotta start wonder if this guy really has the drive, the intention to become what he was supposed to become.
in his first 6 months at milan he was simply unstoppable. he was focused, motivated and kept scoring basically every time he entered the pitch (kinda like ronaldo and messi, with the big difference that doing that in italy is a much more impressive feat). but after the first 6 months the honeymoon was already over and, as the novelty of playing for a new club wore off, he got back to his lazy, irritating self.

i've always been a big fan of mario, but now, if my club were rich enough to afford a player of his caliber, i wouldn't want him. this guy would only come on a "top class player wage", but he simply can't offer the consistancy u should expect from such an expensive player.

Speaking of Balotelli's issue here of course.

Seems he becomes bored too quick. Maybe teams would want to add a bit of spice in his life?

the question is, how the hell a footballer could even be bored? esp. in a huge club like milan. they can provide literally anything he would have fun. and then, think of us the random people. it's sad and frustrating.

I don't know him in person of course. maybe he should seen to a sports psychiatrist or work someone like pellegrini or ancelotti or prandelli. :)

There are some people who are very rich yet always bored. It's a psychological thing. He might like something and go for it full force thinking it is what he wants then soon get bored. Some people like that are always looking to fill that "emptiness". Something is always missing.

Sounds to me like he's just alerting other clubs that nothing has been signed with City and he's still available.
 
Balotelli's doucheness is a deal breaker for me. I'd never want to see him at Arsenal.
Our squad is getting more and more balanced, we don't need someone like him to disrupt the atmosphere in the dressing room. Plus, he's that sort of unpredictable player who will get sent off for stupid things and let his team down. The man's a ticking time bomb waiting to go off.

We've had mercurial talents before, like Arshavin, and it's proven it doesn't work. Fans would get on his back for his poor work rate to say the least.

Wenger has a lot of shopping to do, but don't expect a lot of business. It's a World Cup year, and he seems to like shopping for WC players. I'd expect no business until the 10th of July (except for any deals that might be already triggered, such as Remy).

We would need around 5 players, but I'm guessing Wenger won't get that many new players.

I guess he won't be shuffling his squad too much. Maybe he wants to give the likes of Ox and Gnabry more playing time next season.

I could be wrong though, if more people leave besides Sagna. That are talks of Vermaelen leaving and even Arteta looking Fiorentina bound.

If they all leave, we'll need more than a couple new faces.
 
So Fabianski is off to Swansea then. He was the perfect back-up to Szczesny, but he deserves to be first choice. Reckon Vorm will go to Liverpool.

Also Morata seems to be getting close. Not quite sure if I really fancy this, as Real have a buy-back clause meaning we're only really developing their prospect.
