For example Lyon simply said that they want atleast £20million for Essien which in many people's opinion is a fair price for him. But in the end, Lyon said that they'll leave it to Essien to decide whether he wants to sign a new contract or go elsewhere and he decided to snub Chelsea.
And as for Robinho and Joaquin, maybe you're right that they want Real Madrid because their history but the fact still remains that they snubbed Chelsea no matter what the excuses are.

Why would I be jealous of anything? You didnt see me having an arguement with any Arsenal fan when they won the title. There is a fine line between a football club and a business, Chelsea want to win, ManUnited want to market, this is why you see Chelsea winning the CC, Premiership, and coming into the UEFACL Semis 2 years in a row, and ManUtd, winning the FACUP as their only trophy in years.

These players were all pretty good when they were signed but were nothing compared to the ones we have made bids for recently.

Roman was a billionaire BEFORE joining Chelsea, not after, so that comment is irrelavant. And if you watched that documentry on Roman which was shown on BBC2, Roman said that his interest in Chelsea is purely to show off his money and has no serious intention to make much money back.
If he was looking to make money, he'd go somewhere else cuz he already has (controversial) ways of making money. And how can you not call spending £800million as stupid? I think you're the stupid one if you think thats normal. He might as well have thrown that money into the sea.
Thirdly, it was not the players that refused to join, it was the clubs with their ridiculour price tags, and these same players would turn down MUFC, and why aren't they a sinking ship? Oh right, theyve already pretty much sunk.
