The thing is Villa had reached a point where they couldn't keep providing O'Neill with plenty of money and they had to start trimming the wage bill. O'Neill wasn't prepared to do that and threw his toys out of the pram.
 
I can't wait! it's been too long.

I don't know why I am so excited, most other Arsenal fans look like they are about to top themselves for some reason.
 
Newcastle are in absolute shambles right now. Fans are pissed off and rightly so, muppets are running the club and it absolutely shows.

And now you have players rejecting them left, right and center which has made this big club into a laughing stock. Erding and Barnetta to name the last two. I bet Cabaye is really regretting signing for them right about now as well. He could've done a LOT better.

Now the 4 best players of last season whom without Newcastle would NOT have stayed up will already be gone by time new season starts. Carroll, Nolan, Barton and Jose Enrique. Couple good purchases like Cabaye and Demba Ba but team is weaker than last year and dressing room, morale, everything's mad. Add to that a mediocre manager, one of the worst in the league and really a 2nd div manager in my opinion and this team is destined for the drop. Wonder what the odds are for them to be relegated this year... gonna go check.
 
Everyone note that PLF called this in August, before the season has even started. I agree with this prediction.
 
You never know with this stupid owner and (yes) one of the weakest managers. But i have a feeling Newcastle will be OK.

I'm more worried (well, i don't really care) for Blackburn...
 
I think both are in big trouble to be honest! Both made it this year but next year will be even tougher for them.

Blackburn too having lost Jones and possibly Samba. Both clubs ran by idiots and it's no surprise they're in trouble!
 
I would be worried about QPR, I think instead of investing in the club the owners seem to want to sell it. Warnock has his hands tied and I really think they might struggle.
 
Yep problems there too.

Checked the odds on bet365 yesterday and it's 1/5.5 for Newcastle relegation. Not bad. Think I'm gonna put about $50 on that. Should make a nice little profit if it happens.

And I expect these odds to go lower over next week or so when Barton and Jose Enrique are probably offloaded and now on the book of another EPL team making Newcastle even that much weaker.
 
It seems after all Barton can stay at Newcastle PLF.

A strong rumour all over the Belgian papers: Lukaku to Chelsea for 5 years. Not official, but as good as done if we can believe the press (can we?). Any thoughts on this?

IMO it's too soon for him.
 
Talking about Newcastle, I think Lukaku should have opted for a club like them. I agree with you Gerd, too soon for the kid play in a big shark.
 
Chelsea just look an old team to me, Torres must've been amazing for the first hours, because he got MOTM, and from the 65/70mins from where I saw, he was absolute shit.

Their midfield is so boring, they should play Benayoun more often.
 
Really like the business Peter Coates and Tony Pulis have done at Stoke. Slowly but surely bringing in higher and higher quality players, some good bargains, some veterans, some experience.. this is a club that has good management and does things sensibly and is on the up. Kinda the opposite of Blackburn and Newcastle.

Wouldn't be surprised to see them finish in top half this year even. As high as 9th or 8th maybe even!

Poor Everton on the other hand seem like the poorest club in the Premier League and absolutely broke. :( Their squad needed bolstering as it was but instead they've let go of more players without any real investment. Just a couple loan deals! Says it all really. Poor David Moyes can't do magic forever. Kenwright needs to find a buyer soon!

They'll be in some trouble this year I think but will ultimately still not go down. Wouldn't be surprised to see Long-ball Stoke finish ahead of them now this year though.
 
Moyes for his own sake should have left 2-3 years ago, The Villa job is one he should have really took when it came.
 
Wasn't a proper step up though and looking at how Villa have ended up now a couple years later, I don't think it was necessarily a bad decision. At the time, Everton were just as good and it was a bit of a 'side' movement rather than onwards and upwards. And he's a pretty loyal man after all.

I do hope he gets his chance at a club with more resources soon or better yet have Everton taken over not by a tycoon but by someone who doesn't just sell the best players to balance the books. Everton deserves better than that.

And when you look at the clubs that have been taken over by wealthy businessmen who are willing to invest even as low as 3rd tier or some with no history or tradition and even very little fan base, it is a little surprising how many have favoured them over the likes of Everton!
 
I agree with you on Stoke PLF: Pulis is doing a fine job there. Very clever manager although i don't like their style of play...

I also agree with you about Newcastle, that owner is a big idiot. On the other hand they did buy that bad this summer...all they miss is a good forward IMO...i think they might suprise.
 
I think Newcastle did a decent job this summer. Their owner is an dumbass, we already knew that, however I just think their board made some good moves last august. First of all, they get rid of Nolan and Barton, albeit being good players, no doubt about it, they were overpaid footballers. Then, Newcastle were able to add some interesting players like Cabaye, Demba Ba and Santon for cheap, creating a new spine replacing the old one. The only negative point was the exit of José Enrique, imo, top5 EPL LB material.
 
But all of those players although talented are foreigners and need to adjust to a wide variety of factors. Except maybe Demba Ba who has 6 months in the country and already seems adjusted to league but has injury problems and does still have to adjust to a new TEAM and manager.

Where as guys like Barton and Nolan were established, effective midfielders in their peak and captain/vice captain and gave their all (110%) and for me, without them, Newcastle would've gone down. You can't just buy ready made replacements for guys like that. Guys like Cabaye will need time.

And yah Enrique is a big loss and among best LB's. Newcastle's loss is LFC's gain.

Anyway on another note, this is funny but sad!

La Liga gets stick for getting called the sunny SPL but looking at the league this year and how we and City have started could both clubs become the equivalent?
 
I don't think so. Don't write Chelsea off, they might not play spectacular football, but they are still a force to reckon with. Liverpool is in transition but will catch up sooner or later...

La Liga is the sunny SPL because the uneven division of the television money, change that and you will get a better league...eventually everybody in Spain will see that. This is not good for Spanish football, even if Spain might have the two best clubs in the world and the best national team...
 
I subscribe your post Gerd. Chelsea is getting stronger and stronger, they might not play beauty and attractive football but they were extremely efficient in the last games.

About the sunny SPL, well it's true that both Barça and Madrid unfairly hold the biggest part of TV money and it may be the cause why the gap is too big between them and the others. However those "others" play good football, I watched Valencia games and I must say that enjoyed it a lot. Barça and Madrid are just too strong for them, they are even stronger for City and Utd.

What do you think about Atletico's new GK (loaned from Chelsea) Courtois, André? IMO he has everything to become one of the best GK's in the world. I saw him against Valencia and he was outstanding.
