Trio mate..when one player could carry another and still be effective. BPL don't have a special 3 yet. I think Ramsey,Jack n Alex Ox could be in the far future if they stay. I think MUTD only has Cleverley? Need 2 more players that could play 5-7 season together(blind folded stuff)

We had three defeats on the spin and plugged it with a good comeback against Reading. We haven't had the rub of the green, and Huw Jenkins has just spoken out saying the story is a complete and utter fabrication. Shame it's international week, totally dreading it!
 
Yeah but I learn to cope with them nowadays with our injury lists. I think Vidic, Jones and Young are the only players who are still injured after this.

For the past few seasons, the Chairman of the FA has been David Bernstein, former CEO of Manchester City.

I've been away for a while from this thread, and haven't been following too much of what's going on in the last month or so... Please forgive me for bringing back an old(ish) topic, but here it goes:

Why did the FA treat Terry's racism case as a much softer offense than Luis Suarez's?
Is there any reason why the English got a 4 game ban and the Uruguayan got 8 games?

I've seen there was some noise with the Ferdinands and a lot of wearing/not wearing Anti-Racism campaign shirts. But I have to say, it's a bit rich from the FA to promote things to fight racism when they are racists chauvinistic xenophobic themselves.
 
The FA said that it was because Terry only said the word once (in that match) whereas Suarez said it several times (in his match) and that is the difference in the lengths of the ban. Although I agree with you that this seems to be a very patchy logic.

I dont know if the length of ban is down to the FA treating English players differently to foreign ones - it's hard to say. But they certainly have a track record of being light on bans for England captains. Years ago Alan Shearer, an English striker of good ability but phenominally low intelligence, was captain of the national team. He kicked Neil Lennon in the head off the ball at a Leicester v Newcastle match, the FA went to charge him but he said he would withdraw from the 1998 World Cup so the FA acquiesced and he got off.
 
Yes, the FA really punishes foreign players more severly. Terry should've gotten the exact same punishment as Suárez. Both are (allegded) cases of racial abuse on the pitch, so the punishments should've been the same in my opinion. Not to start this argument again but I wonder what would've happened if in the same situation Suarez were to be a Manchester United player and Evra a Liverpool player. Do you think the FA would've handled the situation the same?

Only exception is Barton, but he is probably hated by every single person in the FA. He once tweeted that he had received a warning from the FA about things he said on Twitter. He posted a picture of the letter un-opened in his garbage bin. :LOL:
 
If Suarez was a Man Utd player and Evra a Liverpool player? Yes I think the bans would probably have been the same for that incident.

The FA will throw the book at English players, and punish them correctly, but only if they are not high profile members of the national team. For instance Ben Thatcher (then of Man City) was rightly punished for an elbow on Pedro De Mendez (think he was at Spurs or Portsmouth). Last season Crawley and Bradford had an on pitch brawl (effectivly in the 4th division of English football) between players, and again the FA handed out bans and heavy fines. And for Bradford, which is nearly bankrupt, the fines were substantial, for Crawley less so, since they are one of the richest clubs outside of the Premier League in the UK.

In Terry's case, it was English allegedly racially abusing English (4 match ban)
In Suarez's case, it was a foreigner allegedly racially abusing a foreigner (8 match ban)

Then what would happen if Suarez allegedly racially abused a high profile member of the English National Team? 12 match ban? 16 maybe?

This is a head scratcher.

I may be wrong but the continued use of a racial insult is apparently why Suarez got a bigger punishment

That's probably the main distinction
 
The FA decisions are usually heavily influenced by the media coverage more than anything. If the media get going on a certain incident and don't let up, it will inevitably lead to FA action, whereas an identical incident with no media coverage might be ignored. Essentially they make up the rules on a case by case basis and it's understandable people are frustrated by their lack of consistency.

The Suarez case did receive heavier media attention, but I believe that was because of the profile of the two clubs involved, despite their recent success Chelsea (or QPR) don't have the following of Liverpool & United and you only need to look at this board and the arguments between 2 sets of supporters to see why the story had more momentum for the media. Also Chelsea as a club also kept a lower profile during the period between trials.

Though the media were still pretty consistently damning of Terry (Independent Cover), so the FA's decision is still very difficult to explain.

Do the media generally give British players favourable coverage or I suppose more importantly after certain incidents a lack of coverage, in my opinion yes - with some exceptions.

That's what they say, but let's face it... it's a way of sugar coating it. If it wasn't that, they would make up another excuse to justify a lengthier ban for Suarez.
By handing him the 8 match ban they wanted to make an example of him and set the bar high up, but they didn't count on their National captain doing the same.

Organising this campaign so soon probably was another mistake by the FA. And have Terry wear the anti-racism armband. Either way it made a mockery of the whole thing: if Terry wears the armband, he's a hipocrite. If he felt it would be inappropriate and chose not to, he's a racist.

But coming from the man who wears the whole kit and shin pads during a final for which he's suspended, he chose to wear the armband anyway :D
 
Why is anyone ever surprised by the ineptitude of the British FA? The organisation has even less credibility than FIFA. It's a bunch of talentless sycophants, put in place due to going to the same posh public school as politicians and not having the intelligence or drive to actually do anything off their own merit.

Their agenda is determined by the media, which is controlled in such a way as to pander to the stupid masses. The Sun is the most purchased newspaper in the country ffs.

If anyone expects the FA to show understanding, logic or even consistency in any of their decisions you're in for a disappointment.

Finally, because I take real exception with people making lazy, uneducated opinions based on the media and who shouts loudest (as per above paragraph) - if Suarez had played for United the past 10 years of FA action action against United suggests he would have received a harsher ban. Because, as the the committee that charged Wayne Rooney with using foul language (and he remains the only player ever suspended for it) that players and teams most in the public spotlight are held to a different standard. Just writing that sentence down should prohibit you from being on a disciplinary committee, much less running one.
 
We got Man City later, dreading it though after the 4-0 pummelling they gave us on the opening day last season. Then again their record against foreign teams so far this season has been horrendous so maybe we might sneak a win :)
 
Ref needs to be very subjected on handing out cards on dives for the sake of it. Offside goals wrongly given is massive in this league. I believe today, Chelsea got what they been blessed with in the past tbh. So, I hope Liverpool will get theirs and MUTD got theirs last season. So, in theory it evens itself out :P
 
Despite the poor refereeing it was a sensational match still, from beginning to end both teams made some magical offense. I would've loved to see Oscar & Rooney play more instead of defending. On another note we're playing some beautiful football this year, now the other teams have to park the bus see:

Chelsea threw it away in the beginning of the match, but how many luck can one team have in one match?
