Funny you should include Alonso in that 'not mediocre' list, but not Gerrard (who you don't like either I am guessing?). Also you forget Hyypia-Carragher, who were one of the best CB partnerships in Europe a couple of years back. And obviously, Reina and Agger are 'mediocre' too. I bet you think Lucas and Babel are shite as well?

It's just a stereotype used against Rafa that he's a defensive coach (though I admit watching us under Ged must have been painful). 100 goals in around 48 games ain't bad, is it. We also have scored the most goals in the CL this season. Pretty decent for a boring, defensive team? And not to mention Rafa's Valencia 'machine' who could pull off the most breathtaking counter attacking and give-and-go moves on occassions, and had 2 of the best attacking flair players of it's time (Aimar and Vicente).

Fucking shame, the amount of talent he has. Amazing player when on form. Doesn't get much playing time now with the emergence of Silva and Mata.

The only reason you've given up the hoofs is because Crouchy has barely played this season. And thats a shame because he's your best striker.

Gerrard is inconsistent as well, and over-hyped to a certain degree, but he's a world class player. Not a mediocre player.?

World class at motivating a team yes, but as far as true technical ability goes, he IS mediocre, just like most English players.

But Lucas especially IS shite, he was shown up in the last game he played. And Babel has promise, he has pace, but as far as an end product, he more often than not has nothing. That said, give him a few years and he could very well be unstoppable.

One of Gerrard's biggest failings is his inability to be a great leader, and motivate those around of him. He's a poor leader, and that's his only fault IMO. Just shows how much you know.

And his technical ability is mediocre? Probably, but that's not the only thing that makes a player. Almost all midfielders are technically superior to Gerrard in Spain, but I would still have Gerrard above them, because he is world class. He has the ability to turn a game around, score a goal from nowhere. He's got pace, power, drive, energy and passion, and his passing ability is top draw as well.

I wonder if you actually see matches, or just base it on one match that you've seen?

Lucas is shite, eh? Saw him against Inter, Chelsea, Newcastle, Everton (home), West Ham, Besiktas, Bolton? Probably not.

And yes Babel has very little end product, but it's first season here.

2 years from now, these 2 players will be bargains at the price we got them.

@Abhisheck are you joking?Gerrard's Technical is great,his passing ,shooting,first touch are almost perfect.It's not because he doesn't do 1000 stepovers that he 's technically poor,technic is not just about What the likes Of Ronaldo or Ronaldino does,it is a lot more ,most of coach on youth academies would take Gerrard as an example rather than Ronaldo..

you must be joking :SHAKE: Gerrard is the player who saves pool's arse on critical matches. He proved that point yesterday, if that's not contributing to a team's passion to win then i don't know what is.

Ask any Liverpool fan what they don't like about Gerrard, and they will say it's his sulking every few games, when he doesn't feel like playing. He's a big game player (in the CL), and is world class, but he is not a good leader. He can't motivate players around him.

By technique, I mean his control over the ball. It's decent, but it's not like a Xavi or a Pirlo where the ball sticks to their feet.

And I already said, his shooting, his passing, his drive and energy is world class. And I too am not a fan of useless step overs, like a Quaresma or a Ronaldo.

I can see your point as its not effective but football is for entertainment purpose's and you want to be entertained and im not saying its the only way to entertain but its still something that for me makes the game so special even if it piss's of opposing fans :DD

I honestly don't get entertained by him doing step overs every time he runs at a player. He does it every time, so it has actually got boring :LOL:
 
he managed to control his step overs lots in the past 2 years, now he knows the right time to do them and actually score a lot more which is why he is the best player atm.
 
I don't agree that Gerrard is a world class player, as far as I'm concerned England don't have a single world class player in their squad. The phrase world class gets handed out far too much.
 
If you score over 20 goals from midfield every year and win the Champions League, or get to the latter stages then you are world class in my book.

If all the big teams want a player in their side, then he is world class.
 
He is world class in my opinion but Peter that argument doesn't count for me, from what i now Lampard scores around 20 goals a season and i wouldn't class him world class at all. the only english players i believe to be world class are Gerrard, Rooney Ferdinand and J.Cole(he's improved so much) the rest are good to mediocre players in my book.
 
well yeah YG, i was just thinking that about Lumplard.

Fact is, Gerrard:

Scores around 20 every year, plays at the highest level in latter stages of CL and has won the tournament as a captian, scoring vital goals and driving the team on, and he has Pace, Strength, Drive, Passing abillity, a powerful accurate shot, good in the air, and he is spoken highly of by players such as Kaka

World Class English players= Ferdinand, Terry, Gerrard, Rooney, Cole
 
For me you have to do it for club and country.

Gerrard and Ferdinand are the only 2 world class English players IMO.

So tobi that would mean players who play for countries like Uruagay or Bulgaria could never ever be considered world class.

It wouldn't matter how fantastic they are with their clubs if their country would get nowhere near the latter stages of the WC or an EC

well if they are so good then those players should be able to transfer to big clubs ofcourse if they are really "world class" and show their skills there where the footy is most focused. It's not where you come from , not if you speak English or not its all about the excellent work you know what i mean :)

They can be world class, just because their country may not get to the latter stages of a major tournament doesn't mean that they aren't performing for their country.

Gerrard for me isn't world class because he does not perform consistenly perform for his country, Cristiano Ronaldo has had two back to back great seasons for his club but has he been consistent for Portugal?

Gigi Buffon is world class, R9 at a stage in his career was world class, Totti has been magnificent for Roma over the years but he'll never be world class because he wasn't consistent for Italy.
 
Its easy to stand out in a team like Bulgaria though!

Thats my point.

There are numerous reasons why a player might not perform for their country. Managers, relationships with other players, being played out of position, not having the same balance you have in your club team etc

If they were merely playing for their club and doing well becasue they are surrounded or are being carried by world class from other countries then that is understandable, but you can't really say that about Gerrard and Rio can you, they have quality around them yet they are still key players and a vital clog in any success their clubs acheive.
