English Premier League thread

It goes both way actually. Pulis has done a great job with the team, they are the in form London team ATM, be careful.
 
For me the overarching theme of this season is the significance of schedule. Not in the Moyes' paranoia way, but in how much better footballers can play if they're used about once a week.

Watching Everton storming around yesterday into the 90th minute, I just couldn't shake the feeling that the extra rest has been a crucial factor for both them and LFC this year. No other teams are able to press as consistently, and play with as much energy. I look at Barry and McCarthy in the middle - and they've started almost every premier league game next to each other this year.

I didn't use to buy into the whole 'we need a winter' break thing, or the 'footballers play too much football' excuse, but this year watching Chelsea, City and even Barcelona - these teams really do feel out on their feet.

Next season will be fascinating to see how both Merseyside clubs deal with a more packed schedule.
 
Burnley back at the Prem.

Didn't we have a thread for a promotions and relegations here a time ago? This would be helpful to get a quick look over many leagues at once.

ye, sean dyche has done a terrific job with burnley, they were one of the favourite to go down at start of season..

For those that enjoy it, here's David Conn's latest piece - detailing financials for 12/13 for all prem clubs. All sourced himself from filings:

Most important bit: of the 20 teams in the prem in 12/13 - 12 (!!!) made a financial loss, and 5 lost more than 50m. Aside from the obvious, that includes QPR and Villa.

The 8 teams that were in the black in 11/12 were also profitable in 12/13.

Technically Abramovich has been loaning you the money (interest free). So technically Chelsea Football Club owe Roman Abramovich that value.

He's only doing it to 'launder' that billion pounds. He'll never call it back in, so I almost wouldn't actually consider it debt.

It's a little confusing, but the last thing I read highlighted a confusing structure. Basically, Abramovich loaned money to a company (call them X), who then loaned money to CFC. A few years ago X's loans were converted to equity in CFC, however Abramovich is still owed for the loans to X.

As I said, doesn't really matter as I don't think he'd ever call them in or anything. But you still have to report them.

This table is doing the rounds from an Italian newspaper. It purportedly shows what Uefa have determined as proper income.
City, Inter and PSG have all failed FFP.
City by 46m euros,
Inter by 47m euros
and PSG by 146m euros!

On City's side, Uefa have rejected our dodgy IP sales of 26m and 16m but have exempted our pre-june 2010 wages (ie. Tevez, Adebayor et al) from our total, as expected. It appears that our Etihad deal has been judged fair market price.

It looks as tho PSG have had their crazy Qatar Tourism sponsorship cut by over 200m and so fail massively. Will be interesting to see how much more severe their punishment is than Inter's and City's and whether they will play along.

Roma just scraped through
