English Premier League thread

I see it like this City are new comers and united been doing the business for a looong time. I rather the new comers for the good of the game :NO: . Look at Spurs everyone wants them to be top and would love for Arsenal to fall out. Arsenal been doing the CL business for a very long time ,worst squad in years and still most likely to manage at least the top 4. So , United n Arsenal look to be weaker and still manage to stay in their spot almost effortless :YAWN:
 
Exactly.

No doubt Tottenham have a better squad than Arsenal and City has a better one than United. But is that what will determine who will finish where? Probably not.
 
That's a fair point. If I weren't invested I'd want to see someone else win the league. I really wish the league was won by 10 teams over 20 years or something like that, cause that's what a league should be like.

I don't like the way City are doing it, but I guess there's no other way. I do think it'l all go t*ts up though - the sheer loss they make each year is completely unsustainable.
 
I'm a Spurs fan but i don't really mind who wins the EPL (or any other league) as long as the team in question plays attractive football.
That's the probleem with Man Utd (for me), while you have to give them all credit for what they've won and keep on winning,i don't like their brand of football...they 've had wonderful players but their football is so sterile, now and then fantastic counters and lots great come backs...but IMO it's not attractive football and always on the edge of brutality and with lots of influencing versus referees and the FA...that is not the way to play football.

People will say that i "hate" Man Utd (and frankly i'm a litle bit tired of that), but you got to keep in mind that from roughly 1974 to 1999 i was a huge Man Utd fan...even when they played in the old second division...They had lots of fantastic teams and of course icons like Cantona, Schmeichel, Giggs, Scholes and even now i was mighthely impressed by Clevely (or Cleverly) in that Sharity Shield...but since roughly 1999 it all came down to a type of football that never attracted me. I remember the fierce rivalry with Arsenal...well i found out to my amazement that i preferred the way Arsenal play football to United's football after Cantona. I prefer Arsènes way to Ferguson even if Ferguson is much more succesfull (the best manager ever).

So i want a super attractive team to win. It doesn't really mind which team that is. And Spurs? Will i be a Spurs fan for the rest of my life? I doubt it...but those sleeping giants, hugely underachieving teams attract me. But there are lots of other attractive teams now Montpellier, Dortmund, AZ,...

And one can dream about a future CL final, in 3 years time a CL final between Swansea and Athletic de Bilbao (currently the teams i see playing the most attractive football, and both on relatively low budgets)...but we all know this will never happen. In two years time Swansea will be a first division club and Athletic will have lost all it's good players and will continue to play Euro League...that is the way football is organized nowadays.

Basically the only team who can win the CL are: Madrid, Barcelona, Man utd, Bayern and Milan, Inter and Juventus. Any other team starts with a huge handicap. The fact that Chelsea never succeeded in winning the CL says it all. Man City might have a try now for a couple of years and they might succede once..but those are one offs...

I don`t think Mutd play sterile :LOL: I think they just have a plan A,B and C . They will mirror their opponents to get the result. I think SAF changes plan if things don`t work using the flanks or trying to make the opponent tire by ball thrus ;) n such. They don`t have a brand w/ this lot but that makes them so unpredictable .IMO this is by far the worst bunch I`ve seen or remember plus all the injuries. When Ronaldo was their Mutd were mouth watering to watch and Nani doesn`t have that appeal . So, it`s fair to say a certain player can bring style to the squad? maybe?

Wenger doesn`t have the players and he still tries to bring style to players who can`t perform such. I think that`s why he prefers younger players, old dog can`t learn new tricks hence why berba a technical player can`t adapt to Mutd ways (imo) can anyone remember Song and his dire ways of passing 'commentators' always had a go at him w/ such comments like "he here goes square pass he looks too nervy out there, " like a scare kid who stays in shallow waters . If, I`m honest I really think SAF is bold in his managing skillz vs Wenger is timid like most of his new young players. Students mimic their teacher. So, while Saf instill strength/boldness/winning mentally . Wenger chooses style so, at least you might not win trophies you`ll keep the stadium full. The safety is Wenger wants to be praise for style then substance , because style could be looked at as success :P Only wenger can say 4th is like a trophy! mind you this all started , when financial doping enter the league w/ Chelsea buying players so other couldn`t buy..SWP £20m :LOL:

Spurs ☻,Liverpool☼ been spending £££ lots to try and stay above others under them . We have to credit SAF/Wenger for their magic many gave up hope on them just to turn it around.

do u guys know if there's a chart online with epl's clubs profits and losses accounts? and perhaps their balance sheets?
i keep hearing about premier league's huge debts and i also know for a fact that relegation contenders in england spend like twice the money an italian midclass club does.... but i also know their incomes are much higher....
it would be interesting though to see exactly "how much higher" theese annual incomes are, in order to realize if this overdraft is actually sustainable or not. :))

From memory (and charts there I've seen in the past) I know that City's wage bill is now more than turnover (that's just wages - before any other costs at all they're spending more paying just the players than the club brought in across the year) and is the highest in the league (even above Chelseas).

That's the bit I dislike. The way City (and Chelsea) are currently operating is such that if the Sheikh or Abramovich left tomorrow, both clubs would be utterly, utterly f*cked, and go into administration. Both clubs are completely dependent on personal wealth to even exist - and I cannot see how that is a good thing.
 
Yes beach, but United also have a problem due to Glazier...

And to be fair, this weakens the team. Although you don't notice it resultwise...i guess this makes what Ferguson does all the more impressive.

Oh absolutely. Fans of every other club in England should have Malcolm Glazer on their Christmas card list. United have won 4 out of the last 5 premier league titles, and in that time have had negative net spend and the Glazers have sucked out £550m from the club.

Imagine if United had been able to spend that money on players, facilities and increasing the size of OT? They'd be out of sight.
 
Don`t think Stoke played bad or were too threatening,but Dzeko doesn`t have the confidence to get a goal. As the match went on Stoke looked closer to getting all the spoils .

I fell a sleep was a bore fest! Mutd offered nothing but kick n hope inside the box, it worked for 1 goal. Evra needs a rest :LOL:
 
Yeah, United were good for the first half, but pretty awful in the last 20 minutes.

No idea what Fulham were up to though - they have some wonderful players but basically defended as if they were winning for 65 minutes of the game. I mean, there were spells where United would have the ball for literally 10 minutes, and Fulham would just have all 11 men back, even when 1-0 down. Very odd.
 
very odd indeed ... they lack fight which made the game bad I`d prefer more goals chicaritos meh what happen to him. Rooney n Welbeck should of stayed on GD was vital and they would of score imo
 
Fulham are a mystery to me. IMO player by player their team is as good as Newcastle's team...yet they have very average results. Is it the manager or is it the club that is not ambitious enough (and maybe after all Hughes had a point, although i find him a pompous bastard)?
 
Different styles always intrigue me. For my money what makes Man Utd so difficult to beat in the course of a season, even if their individual players are not the best it's ever been, is their game management. I'm a Liverpool fan and so have been at the wrong end of Man Utd for my lifetime, but it's just the fact that they can play more than adequately in several different ways. They can win ugly, they can have a tear up, they can play passing football through the centre, or play long balls. They can be comfortable on the ball and retain possession or play a counter game.

Now, they're not superb in ANY one department, but like a previous poster said, they size up the opposition and adapt the style of play accordingly, and most of the time they normally have an answer in the last fifteen minutes of games. This cannot be luck or chance. As much as I hate to say it, SAF is a master of winning league titles and knowing both course and distance. I had a hefty bet with a Man Utd friend when City were miles clear a couple of months ago that United would win the league this year and I stand by that. If City do lose the league this year it will haunt several players for a long time I feel.
 
I'd probably say we were the most devastating team on the break a couple of seasons back but yeah since then we don't really excel above all else anymore.
 
Vey sad news that Stiliyan Petrov, Aston Villa and Bulgaria player has got leukaemia (blood cancer), almost a year to the day he got his 100th cap for Bulgarian national team.

I wish Petrov all the best and i'm sure he can battle through it. It's been a weird season for illnesses/incidents in football Speed, Fletcher, Abidal, Cassano, Muamba and now Petrov, those are just the ones I can remember.

It's weird, sometimes it felt like everyone was grieving for Muamba, but there is smiling away and very much still with us. Perhaps it was just the shock of seeing him collapse on the pitch that caused this reaction.
