FIFA World Cup Brasil 2014

I do hope the next game.. If the Netherlands win it.. Is done the proper way again. Sometimes it feels like the Dutch are the most loved and hated team at the same time. Guess the Germans passed that torch. ;)

The weather conditions in the quarters should (hopefully) be more favorable for more of an offensive display again. It was clear both teams struggled a lot with the immense heat. Let's face it, every team loses and wins games the "dirty" way at times, but I hope the memory of the Dutch will soon be a positive one again.

No, no, there was a contact, but the jump by robben was ridiculous.

In the end they deserved a penalty, because in first half it was a clear one.

Mexico is too blame. If they would have gone for second goal Netherlands would have been "dead"....

There was a penalty to Mexico in the first half as well, when the defender kicked the ball in head height just as the Mexico player headed.

The ref had no balls what so ever. The Dutch were weak and cheated themselves through. I wish them pain and misery in the future.

Don't know if I'm right but isn't dangerous play (kicking the ball at head height) rewarded with an indirect free kick (also in the box, instead of a penalty)?

Just asking, I was wondering when it happened.

Tell me.. Other than Robben s PK call we can go around arguing over and over whether it was justified.. How exactly are the Dutch being supposedly so dirty compared to most other teams in the WC.. I'm just not seeing it. Sure their play might not be as pretty as its been before but even the most spiteful person must admit that was once again some masterful tactical flexibility and mental fortitude by the Dutch? Who would've guessed Kuyt can have such an influence rotating between multiple positions in a single game in his day and age? That's impressive imho.
Similarly Mexico s approach was brilliant in the first half. Robben and RvP especially were kept in check masterfully for the better part of the first 45.

Greece is dominating so far. Quite surprised by their performance so far, Salpi missed one heck of a chance... They could've been easily ahead by the end of this half.

Oh, come on. It wasn't that bad. I've seen more hypnotic games this tournament.

The Costa Ricans are so wasteful atm, too many lost balls. Greece is taking advantage of that and sooner or later they'll score Costa Rica doesn't step up.

Many teams are somewhat dirty but particularly the Dutch like to show the underside of the boots in high ball duels which makes the opponents hesitate somewhat. It's up to the ref to have balls to show yellow cards early for it. De Jong is also a prime example of dirtiness incarnate, although he's been very mild this WC so far, but a mild De Jong is still a fucking menace on a football pitch. Van Persie's shirt pulling on the cross in the first half, I believe, also show the general dirty Dutch mentality and I don't like it. This is not a team that deserves "neutral" support for many reasons.

Robben is a well known diver so I don't even need to elaborate that, he showed it enough times during the match. He should've gotten one penalty earlier in the match but I guess his reputation served him right then. The one that gave a penalty would not be a penalty 9/10 times and rightly so.

I am fairly pragmatic, I generally think the team that scores most goals deserve to win a football match. This is one of the cases where I'm quite furious about the way the winning goal was achieved. I have no ties to Mexico or Netherlands. I'm hoping for Argentina so whenever the weakest team wins, which was the Dutch in this case, it's actually a small victory for me. Mexico were chickens though, they gave the initiative away too early, so there's that.

Dull game, but finally someone scored. Now it should be an attractive match! Vamos Costa Rica!

Dominating and throw away at home...

Go Bananas! ;)

Ah.... There, couldn't you just phrase it like that at the beginning.

Well, yes. It seems so ;)

Edit: Greece just scored. Unbelievable!

this whole world cup is scrypted.
all these last minute goals, unbelievable.
i am never buying this game again.

Zero: Thx for the response to my Dutch question. Fair enough, I still don't quite agree but we ll just agree to disagree. I do wish controversy would ve been avoided and that the game like would ve been won with a regular goal. After the flow of the game and Sneijder s thunderbolt I expected them to take it in OT. Ah well. Will agree btw De Jong is a dick but he s very effective. Lucky for you it seems like he might be out for the rest of the tournament. Can't recall if he got injured in the Chile game or in training..

Greece and Costa Rica then.. What a tourney
