FIFA World Cup Brasil 2014

Bravo les gars!! What a display Switzerland put out today! Stephane´s only mistake in whole match was fatal, Di Maria´s goal was like a sting. So cruel!

Pretty satisfied with that the team that is no trying to win, but only defend until the PKs are reached is eliminated. Don't like this defensive style. Quite hard though the goal fell that late, but I don't think it was undeserved.

I expected the matches to be close, but THAT close? More than half of the matches so far needed more than the usual 90 minutes!

Along with Honduras, Brazil and Argentina have been the weakest S.American teams, pity the better ones are already out. If there's any justice Colombia or Costa Rica will win the WC, as the Euro biggies from last 16 look awful and are awful to watch, look shit scared gto play football, the smaller teams were the ones that created the better play so far, the big teams being left are going to make it a borefest from hereon in.

In the end it does not matter if you played well or attractive or how good the matches were in group stage. The last 4 games are the ones that count. Let US wait and see if columbia and / or Costa Rica will reach the semis...

That's something wrong with this picture: Swiss players with the ball, the crowd saying "olé" when Argentinian run helpless.

Btw, Shaqiri is ready for Liverpool. Try to get a player send off, sees that the ref does not felt for it, immediatly recovers and goes for a danger play. He has some Suárez in him. :)

and he dives a lot, too! :P

About our team, Rojo and Romero aren't joke-targets anymore, they're the best players so far (Masche is one of them, too). I'm worried about our lack of goals by the FWDs, we'll need them in the future if Messi can't find that one play that seals our victory.

I agree that we don't play well so far. IMO the only one who did it was Colombia.

Argentina were poor but Aguero (not on the field today), Higuain and Lavezzi haven't been particularly productive. There's no movement in the box, no runs to stretch defenses and basically nothing sensible going on. I think Messi and Di Maria, particularly the latter, deserves credit for solo efforts. Di Maria, although losing the ball quite a lot, also created a whole lot of situations that could've ended better if he had just a little help from the players around him. Defensively I think Argentina were better than expected today. You have to consider that most of the situations they were up against were counters where they were generally few and even against even number attackers. I had expected Switzerland to score at least once today on that defense. Gago, Mascherano and the back four were quite good, particularly defensively.

In all honesty, the Swiss were exceptionally destructive, I mean Greece style anno 2008, in this match. After 25 minutes they hardly played anything but counter attacks and not particularly effective either. Their squad would've been more than capable to match Argentina in an open, normal, football match.

If Belgium are supposedly weak in the full back positions why don't they go 3-4-3 or 3-5-2? Have they tried it? They have some good central defenders and midfield options.

Should I cheer for our close neighbours (real close ones in my case) or for the land of the free? Guess this is a match in which I can live with either of them winning.

I believe playing like this we will get far anyway

We've been really shite today, yet Switzerland were worse, tbf. Ultra-defensice football already seen from Iran. Our goal was deserved, but that shot on thr post was lucky indeed.

just had a look at their squad and it looks like their only choice for wingback is vanden borre. maybe that's why they insist on 4men defence.

They strengh lays on wingers, so that system would put the winger on the bench. Plus they don't have none player that can play the wingback role.

But with a 3-4-3 they can still play with wingers and wouldn't need wing-backs.

I don't see Hazard or Mertens tracking back like say Asamoah or Lichestneir on Juve, or Blind and Janmaat on the Netherlands. Playing without wing-backs on that system does not work in modern football, IMO. You need someone to compensate/help the "side" CB's. At the pace that the game is played today, CMF's and DMF's cannot compensate that space. It expose your defense too much, IMO.

Good start to game, Hazard playing well. Big blow Johnson going off, he's been fantastic.

I wouldn't say it doesn't work in modern football. Chile have played it with good effect.

Some nervy moment for the US. The US don`t have top individual players . I think Bradley has not been himself he must of drank the water from the plumbing over there.

Belgium move the ball good the US just need to take the advantage anytime in the final 3rd. Fate can help and I`m hoping !

Both Alderweireld and Vertonghen were very good in the first half. Vandenborre is out for the rest of the tournament. finally a good half, but hats off to the USA, very good first half...

Chile doesn't play in 3-4-3 system. They sometimes offensevely put themself on that scheme, but the play 3-5-2. Something like this:

---Francisco Silva--Medel--Jara---
-Isla---------------------Mena--
-----Aranguiz----Diaz-----
---------Vidal---------
-----Sánchez---Vargas---
