Agree with the Smith comment, however what can fans see during the game? A hard tackle, followed by him getting up to winge and then lying around trying to get Carra sent off. That's what they can see. At home we can see it's bad and should have been a red card, but in the ground they see a player that is always making the most of it and is doing so again. I wouldn't place much value on those boo's.

i can see what you're saying about the fans not really knowing the full extent of what happened initially but i think it became relatively obvious considering it took an age to get him on the stretcher and how he was taken straight down the tunnel and a substitute immediately called for.

maybe i'm being too critical though considering the magnitude of the rivalry and the passion that goes hand in hand.

obviously the injury was nowhere near as bad as smudgers and thankfully neither was the liverpool fans reaction but i was still suprised to hear him booed and abused so roundly.

ps. come on dags, you know what i'm referring too

Yeah because United fans are saints and wouldn't have cheered a Liverpool player off now would they? I'm not condoning any booing of a badly (I stress badly) injured player but don't be naive enough to think United fans wouldn't do the same.

To be fair, Pu6hy has a point. It'd be silly to think United fans wouldn't give the same reaction if the same thing happened to a Liverpool player at Old Trafford.

everyone has their own opinion but i don't think united fans would roundly boo and abuse a player being stretchered off (been going to old trafford since the late 80s).

you should know too that even though i'm a united fan i dislike the majority of our current fans and am normally quick to criticise them when i think they're wrong (like the booing berbatov received when he came on in the champions league final in rome and our away game at blackburn last year for example).

maybe i'm wrong though

Anyway, yeah J I believe you are very naive to think a United fan wouldn't boo if a Liverpool player jumped up and about for a few secs pointing at his leg and then went down and then finally onto a stretcher. And if this Liverpool player was a known diving pansy who constantly tries to con refs aswell! Only one outcome from the fans POV who were at the game.

The fans would be screaming and calling him a cheat and just be going mental. Boy who cried wolf springs to mind with him.

Gerrard isn't on the same level as Nani for diving (although he does do his starfish too many times for my liking) but if Gary Neville did the same challenge to Gerrard, you can't tell me United fans in the ground wouldn't have been laughing/booing/cheering/mocking/etc?

you're missing my original point.

take the nani incident on it's own and maybe you can defend it, but this was on the back of the treatment smudger received only a few years back when he'd suffered a horrific injury (liverpool fans even adapted their Riise song to mock him and the less said about his ambulance journey the better).

every criticism you have of nani (diving, whinging, cheating) doesn't apply to smith.

United fans would still boo a disliked Liverpool player. I honestly believe they would. The sides can't stand each other and the fans would boo somebody. Hand on heart I wouldn't but (but... blah de blah) there are idiots out there that just do this type of thing. You'd hope they wouldn't if they knew the full extent of a players injury (as it's not always clear at the time) but some morons still do it.

I went to a Pool/Utd games a while back and was pretty much right next to the United fans and some young lad just kept shouting Munich, Munich and making plane crashing gestures with his hand. It sickened me. We told him to do one or he'd be getting a dig as that type of thing is out of order.

Even though a thousand or so fans slated Smith (I don't remember the situation tbh), you can't label everyone the same so for somebody to say all Liverpool fans are pigs (read that elsewhere) or whatever is also out of order. Minority on most occasions and most fans of any club are decent people. Shame about the idiots though.

What riles me is when fellow professionals such as Kuyt and Gerrard tried to pull him up off the ground, despite being no more than a metre from the gaping hole in his leg.

Whatever, let's move on. FA cup next, which could well be our best chance of silverware as our squad is falling/ fallen apart.

Valencia and Park's return can't come soon enough. I seriously don't know how the rest of the season will turn out for United.

There's been a bad change of luck in recent weeks and it's as if everything's playing against us. Mind we're still in a very good position so fingers crossed.

He's a lot more important than most gave him credit for.

Yup. Our game relies so much on width, and we've missed 2/4 of our wide players for more than half the season. And their replacements are Bebe and Obertan. Little wonder the wheels have come off!

Exactly. As soon as he left I noticed we started falling apart.

During the start of the season he was poor, he himself admitted that. Then suddenly he and Carrick started performing well and Rio returned. That's around the time we stopped leaking goals and went on a winning spree.

Very underrated player.

Worth noting Rio's been missing through this whole spell too. Ridiculously good when fit - which is less than half the time these days.

And no way is Smalling or Evans in his league yet, and to be honest I can't think of a single centre back who that we could buy. So I guess we have a part time world class defender :)

Ugh, seriously worried about Saturday because of our injuries. Typically I'd have a fair amount of faith in our ability at OT, especially given the week Arsenal have had, but just can't see us fielding a team with the necessary legs to beat em. I fear it'll be:

I doubt Valencia will play, or even make the bench.

Urgh, Fergie pretty much confirmed Nani out til April. Apparently the medical team really struggled to stitch the wound due to the swelling, so it's only now starting to heal. Thanks again for that Jamie, hope you enjoyed your loss last night.

No Valencia, Rio, Nani or Park for tomorrow. Number of times the media will mention Arsenal's injuries: Dozens. Number of times the media will mention United's? None.

Yeah, it's only the wide areas I'm worried about - but to be honest that's the best way to play against Arsenal, so it's a pretty big deal. I don't trust a midfield of Gibson, Fletcher and Carrick to accomplish anything much at all, even if it's versus Wilshere, Diaby and Denilson. We need those wide areas as a relief valve.

Also worrying that there was no mention of Anderson at the press conference. Hope he's not moving into the Hargreaves world of 'we just don't talk about them anymore' injuries.
