Manchester United Thread

Glad he got rested by only playing the last 20 min or whatever it was..and didn't get a yellow today so he's in the clear for the next game.

Clean sheet is nice, Vidic back in form it seems, Kagawa back, next game Rafael should be back too, hope Anderson not long after that and in a few weeks Rooney again. Would be nice to put the smackdown on another team like Chelski and Arsenal have been doing a few times this season but at this point I am happy with the relative consistency especially with the huge number of injuries and rotations the squad has dealt with thus far this season.

Yeah he's out for two weeks, were not allowed to have everyone fit at the same time :(( Atleast it will allow Kagawa to get back into a run of games, was excellent first half today.

SAF on Nani
Sir Alex Ferguson has told Manchester United contract rebel Nani that he does have a future at Old Trafford.

The Portugal winger, who is *currently sidelined by a *hamstring problem, is a £10m January transfer target for Arsenal, Tottenham and Juventus after *refusing to sign a new deal.

Nani has 18 months left on his contract and threatens to allow the agreement to expire before walking away for free.

But Ferguson has offered a way back for the 26-year-old by saying: “Nani’s contract isn’t up until the end of next season – and we need him.

“He offers something different from the other players we have. He’s got an incredible talent, but, *unfortunately, he’s been injured.

“We have sent Nani over to Dubai for a break in the hope that it will help him with his recovery.

“I don’t think we will have him back until the middle of January. He’s never had a hamstring injury before and this is a bad one.

“But Nani has got a future here. Why would I want to let him go?”

Ferguson is not planning any transfer business next month.

He also denied that United have lined up a £16m deal for *Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski to join in the summer.

Bolded part is very encouraging, hopefully Nani signs that contract as he'll open a whole new dimension to are game on the right, we've yet to really see RVP and Nani combine. :...
 
Man Utd need to keep Nani, one of the most talented players in the PL. If he sort out his inconsistency he will be some player.
 
Couldn't stop myself from posting this. Van Persie's second goal v Wigan now; Fucking. Class.
 
Nice, another clean sheet..2 more goals for RvP and 2 for chica. Good start of the new year. Solid team performance overall. Glad to see the defense finally seems to come together.
 
Was there today.

We were excellent barring the first fifteen or so, but that was simply keeping Wigan at arms length. We dominated the rest of it.

Another clean sheet too, really not sure what's happening.
 
I went the game today, credit to utd fans they sing all game.

But Wigan fans were SO dull. It was full, but NOBODY was singing/chanting/shouting/doing anything other than sitting in silence.

Bizarre.
 
Special but what excites me more is the potential football we could finally get to see on a more regular basis

As I've always said, Danny has everything a striker needs - pace, strength, skill, can pick a pass and gets in good positions - except he can't put the ball into the net.

Kind of important that.

He needs to be more selfish and work on his finishing.
Like you said he has good attributes as a striker but one thing he lacks is composure in the final third.

Wouldn't say being selfish is his problem. I often damn near pull my hair out when he sends one sailing wide even though he could have passed it off for a better opportunity. Confidence however IS something he seems to be lacking, and that goes both ways imho..if he is likely to not put it in the net, who do you think a teammate is more likely to pass to..him or someone else?

I like Danny both as a person (based on when I see interviews etc.) and I will agree he shows promise. He fights for the ball, has good control of it and has a certain level of vision. His assist to RvP in the last game was impressive to me as I fully expected him to take a shot himself. Goals as a striker are indeed important but pro football is also a results oriented business, especially when you play for a team like United.
 
The only thing he lacks as Beachryan said is scoring and that's something he can work on to improve and with Van Persie, Rooney and Hernandez their he has to continue to do that to get minutes on the pitch, I think the competition should help bring him along quicker and hopefully he can become a 20-25 goal a season player.
 
I still believe in Danny, but think he needs to start differentiating himself from the other strikers. He's got the physique and technique to be a bit of a 'big man' type forward, which is the one thing we're still missing. He can be our Heskey ;)
 
He's the one that's got a 'bit' of everything without excelling at one aspect as well as the other three.

Speed, Technique, movement, energy, its all there but he needs to improve his awareness in around the box and start scoring on a more regular basis.

The Heskey stuff is weird, he's very talented for one. He's still just 22!
 
People said similar stuff about C. Ronaldo at a similar age. Granted, Welbeck will never be as good as CR but still...

It's not just Welbeck either. There's Hernandez, who is obviously very talented, who has been slagged off for ages. And then there's Anderson (who I do not rate at all) who has been mediocre at best for Utd but comes back does ok, scores a goal and suddenly fans are mourning his injury.


Most fans are embarrassingly fickle. Nothing new there, of course.
