Manchester United Thread

Pleased with the work rate, not impressed with our composure on the ball.

Welbeck, De Gea and Jones impressive.
 
The ref was really poor in this match. I don't think any Madrid players got any cards and Ramos really got his theatrics going all game.

All-in-all, it was a good result going back to Old Trafford at 1-1. Initially thought it'd be 2-1 to Real, but if Van Persie or Rooney cared to show up, it could've been 2-1 to us!!! Think they were still tired from the Everton game

Disagree w Rvp not showing up. He worked his ass off and held up the ball well in the first half, especially considering he was marked by at least 2 players the whole time. Not to mention he took crs free kick right in the knocker. Was a lot more involved once kagawa was replaced w Giggs and had some brilliant chances. Pushing kagawa forward in the first instead of rvp was an interesting tactic but he doesn't have the height or physicality to battle 2-3 defenders at a time. Carrick was lost for a large part of the game, causing a major disconnect. . S. I believe that was rvps 10th or so crossbar hit this season. Wish he could end that love affair lol.

Absolutely brilliant game by de Gea though.. He deserves the spotlight for this one by a mile. Expecting Vidic in the lineup at OT

Who was that Madrid player in yellow? He was probably their man of the match. Just checked, he gave a MINIMUM of 3 minutes added time, and blew up at 2:50 before United could take a corner.

I know UEFA officials have to repot to no one in particular, but surely that kind of thing is a little odd? I'm not saying United would have scored or anything, but if you give the time you should really see it out.

Seeing Sergio Ramos with an armband that says RESPECT is like seeing Hitler with an armband that says tolerance.

Decent performance and decent result. RVP both excellent and awful in the same game. Odd.

Well I think we have to be positive about a 1-1, we could have possibly nicked it but Real could have too.

Ronaldo is probably the biggest difference between them and us, I can see it becoming a shoot out at home but Old Trafford will be rocking ala 'Barca 08' and hopefully we can just nick it. I could see them going through on away goals though and some of their play acting might cost us.

The gulf in quality was there to see but we defended with our lives on the line and stuck to a game plan.

That's fine in essence but then sometimes it always leaves you thinking we could've done more. Had RVP scored that chance (think he thought he was offside) then we'd have kept it to 2-1 I reckon. Shame really.

Good performances from the majority (Rooney was shocking mind) and amazing from the likes of De Gea (especially), Jones and Welbeck.

Hope is still there for a win at OT, hopefully the crowd get us over the line for once.
 
I think the ref was fair for both sides ,letting tackles and fouls to continue play, just at the end for the corner :( .Mutd did f'all just sat behind looked more of a 11 man march then a football team. I did enjoy the .5 counter attacks Mutd did.

RM had to dig deep to find an opening and when it was present the GK made some great saves. I think or would like to think Mutd will abandon the last season of Chelsea play book. Then again who needs style ... CL finalist.

Definitely defensive showing, but we did have 11 shots. And to be honest should have scored at least one more, can't believe RVP fluffed his chance.

It's hard to know how else to play against a team as complete as this Real Madrid. It genuinely is one of the best XIs ever assembled. And unlike in the league, in the CL they're very, very focused.

They also don't lose at the Bernebau.

OT will be a different story, I hope.
 
I think SAF was pretty smart with his tactics on the offensive end but we got pressured to hell on the defensive end. The fact Ronaldo was all over the place and Rafael looked shaky at best didn't exactly help, not to mention the 2 cards for him and Rvp were just plain stupid and didn't exactly help us on the defensive end IMHO as it ensured the two had to be a lot more cautious early on. Once again. Fuck Ramos.
The second half we started to look much more comfortable and it looked more like the Utd we know from the EPL games... Calm and calculated. I'd assume we won't be as nervous at OT
 
What did you US based folks think of my boy Gus Johnson LOL. I love that guy, I say give him time and he could be brilliant , if your not following I'm talking bout the fox play by play guy

He played well last night :DD
 
It does make things simpler for us at home now, we basically need to win and any win will do. I agree with Jose though their isn't much of an advantage cause they could easily come here and score 2+

From listening to Barton you'd think he was one of the best players in history. He's judgemental and incredibly anti the 'big' teams - he seems to have a real hatred of United and Arsenal to me.

The new guy kept calling us Man U. That's not our name. That's not what we're called.
 
Interesring to see if SAF will man mark C.Ronaldo in the next game.

Its also a reverse in situation Utd had the past weekend.

Tough and important game on the sunday Vs Everton

Madrid on Weds.


Before the return leg we play Norwich at OT on the saturday..

and Madrid also play Barca on the same day.

So hopefully injuries permitting we should see Vidic back and few key players rested if we keep decent lead in the table, city play both of their next league games after us...

who knows tho, we've been in these situations before, going strong in 3 comps then getting nothing.

PS Gomito..Johnson was better than expected. Barton is annoying but at least he's relatively balanc d unlike that tool of a Wynalda

@beachryn he does seem to get piss when Mutd wins . He is superficial critical at players and he doesn't seem to get love from his co-workers . He has a hatred for Andres Santos n Ramsey like if he reads Arsenal blogs lol.

@gomito. Well can't judge him on 1 game. I like the sound of his voice just didn't like the way he was following Barton's every word. Not his doing;)

Another "beloved" spanish team fan here. I was also really disappointed by that corner, however I think it's a bit much to take it on the ref and assign shirts of white/red/blaugrana to him as they usually are. Think about it... were United to score from such a late corner he'd have MourinhoHELL thrust upon him. 1-1 works best/most peaceful, as both teams are relatively content with the result. That corner would have passed the 3:00 mark because United had no interest to really hurry it up [they wanted to make sure once the ball is kicked away the game would end]. I agree most of the times the corner is and should be given, but...

TL;DR - The ref simply chose the most uncontroversial thing, seeing as he's mostly covered this way.
 
Sigh, another gentle draw for us...Chelsea! So that's LFC, Chelsea and City in something like 5 of the last 8 domestic cup draws.

Watch it be Reading vs. Middlesbrough now.

Hopefully we can beat Reading and then Chelsea. I'll be genuinely upset if we don't win the cup this year, been far too long.
 
8 Premier League teams in a row for us now, my statistician head doesn't even want to go into the odds of that.

But it does mean for the first time in years Chelsea have to actually earn their spot in the final, so that's something :)
