Ah yes Veron - AND Chelsea went on to win the league that year too.

Clearly the curse. Same with Hargreaves. Didn't work with Silvestre though. Damn, there went my theory.
 
I was gonna say Heinze was decent

Heinze came within a medical of joining the pool, but then another bid came in from Madrid(? I'm not top sure on this one) and that changed everything.. I think we actually took less money in order to avoid selling to a rival, mental.

No they didn't. was Abramovich's very first summer of mental spending and they came 2nd behind the 'Invincibles'.
 
What the actual f*ck is our PR team doing? Publically talking about lifetime Barcelona fan Cesc Fabregas who is happy where he is? Pathetic. Not the way United do business.

I don't care that we don't sign anyone, but at least do business the United way ffs. Sort Rooney out behind closed doors, deal with the transfers through the proper channels and get on with things. This is just below how we've operated in the past.

As Chelsea and City spend >100m this summer at a time when our squad was already behind - we can't do that and won't. I had hoped FFP might curb the sugar daddy losses, but was clearly wrong. Maybe Moyes can wring performances out of a somewhat ragged squad, but we'll see.

Could be fun though, the race for non-sugar daddy spots is on! (I'm looking at you Arsenal and Spurs!)

Hmm I'm not seeing anything strange coming from any official channels. Press does what it does best: blow things out of proportion. Unless they issue an official press release or statement from the club, none of these articles hold much weight, even if they are on manutd.com.
 
You should probably note that since we've sold Mario, we have spent a net 47m (possibly rising to 54m if we win the CL) and have cut the wage bill quite dramatically.

Calm down dear, Moyes was asked a question about Fabregas and he answered it, he clearly thinks we have a chance otherwise Woodward wouldn't have flew back a few days earlier as something obviously changed (which very well could be the Tito situation)

I have no idea what you mean by 'sort' the Rooney situation, its sorted on our end, he's not for sale is the public motto and if Chelsea want him then they'll have to pay a silly fee.
 
The fact that Cesc is a Barcelona fan is totally irrelevant IMO.
In the end most football player want to play first team football (except for the idiot who went from Swansea to Man City and who was already totally useless with Chelsea).
 
that Januzaj guy is realy above all your youngsters i saw.. better than Zaha for me... such composed and matured play from such kid.. imo next United superstar.

Aye, too bad he hit the post there toward the end. Good show and performance by the youngsters but let's not kid ourselves in thinking this game was indicative of much. The opposition was pretty darn horrid.
But hey, it was entertaining and a win so that's a plus in my book.
 
Anyone feel like this has a touch of Fergie about it? Not signing a midfielder during his time as boss, even though it was painfully obvious we needed one, and then suddenly a new boss comes in and we are going all out to get a new midfielder. I know its not a popularity contest, but it almost feels like Fergie left it so the new boss has something to do that can please the fans and make him popular almost instantly.
 
Best thing about this morning's result: Cleverley, Lingaard, Fabio, Rafael, Welbeck, Januzaj, M. Keane and of course Mr. Giggs - all products of the youth academy.

Wonder what will happen with Jessie this season. He looked good on the tour last year too, but had a poor season developmentally with Leicester. Not sure he'll ever be physically good enough for us (I include pace in that, he's nimble but not fast enough to play on the wing imo).

Great to see Moyes given Adnan a chance. There was a moment towards the end where he picked up the ball off Fabio, beat a man in his own half and played a perfect, blind long ball over the top to Lingaard. Just awesome to see that kind of vision and confidence.

Also, Zaha is a player. FInishing off, but has the look of someone who can beat a single full back anytime.

Then again, the 'all stars' are in their off season too, so hard to tell how good we really were ;)
 
Januzaj is not a youth product of Man Utd, he was formed by FC Brussels and Anderlecht. He came to Man Utd when he was 15 (i.e. at the age football players can sign a contract). IMO that is not a youth product.

Messi came to Barcelona at the age of 12, even he is not a youth product imo.

I'm coaching youth players and from what i see 15 year olds are for at least 85% the finished product. At that age they have all the necessary football skills, what they lack is (for some of them) body and experience...Of course Januzaj learned a lot at Man Utd, but he wasn't formed there...

Of course it's good thing for Januzaj that he can play for United and what i wrote above this sentence isn't that important... In the end United did "find" Januzaj...good work.

Although I call them "youth products" I mean it loosely, as in they signed their first pro deals with the club, true youth products are ones who joined <10 imo, when you're first learning football proper.
 
Ha yes apologies they were not born and raised in Carrington. All have played for our u18 (and most u16) teams. That's what I meant.
 
I agree with you on Zaha BTW Ryan. Haven't seen much of him, and again today's opposition probably wasn't a good standard but I'm impressed with his speed and especially vision. His combinations with Giggs were particularly promising. BTW it looks like RvP is just continuing the form he was in last season, I almost forgot his corners are pure sex. If we still end up "settling" for a Fellaine I can at least take comfort in the fact his big head will be able to connect with the balls Robin whips inside the box.

I usually agree with gerd, but to say a 15 year old is close to a finished product is ridiculous IMO. We can see way too many examples of footballers who were probably not that good at 15 and blossomed in there late teens to early 20's
 
Well my friendster of all the things i wroet on this forum, this must be the one that i'm most convinced about, because it' s the one that i see week in, week out. Like all other things Theo learn most at a young age. I don't think they learn a lot of football skills when they are onder than 15.
