How on earth is Martin Atkinson still refereeing in the Premiership and why on earth has he been given another Utd/Chelsea game to mess up with his incompetence?

Isn't it a bit early to come up with excuses?

Anyhoo if the bids for Baines and Fellaini are accurate then I say wtg United. Don't think they're worth a penny more so if Everton doesn't want to sell for that then I have no problem with that.
 
I'd love to have seen a before and after on the Odds of United winning that match before and after Atkinson was announced.

I'm not going to repeat myself, but of all the refs in the premier league era, he is the only one I genuinely believe dislikes United.

And his performance in United v Chelsea from 2 seasons ago was the most biased I've seen in a single match. Ever. I think the FA agreed with me - as he wasn't given another big match for about 18 months.
 
Yup. Thanks for that FA. Certainly not scared of Fergie anymore! Have some stats on Martin Atkinson, who has refereed both teams about 25 times:
- Chelsea's loss % with Atkinson: 8%
- United's loss % with Atkinson: 22% (!!!)
- Chelsea's penalties for with Atkinson: 7
- United's penalties for with Atkinson: 0 (!!!)

So another day of transfer nothingness, now with added 'No Fellaini' and
'No Baines!'.

We're not going to sign anyone are we? Pretty shocking stuff for 'the biggest club in the world'.

We are literally one injury away from a train wreck. If anything happens to Michael Carrick, we cannot field a top 10 midfield. One player. Who is 32. And can't play every match anyway. There is no promising youth prospect (thanks for that Fergie, good decision on that Pogba kid), there is no potentially class player there is a 40 year old winger, 2 injury prone mediocre players and a centre back.

It was comical when Fergie was in charge, in a laugh at the irony of the world's biggest ship sinking on its maiden voyage kind of way. Now it's just pathetic.

I'm not privy to the inner mechanisms of the club, and, like our new CEO, I've never signed a footballer. But the board, Woodward, Glazers whoever is seriously failing Moyes here. It's unprofessional, it's inexperienced and all I can hope is that it hits the stock price soon, so that the Glazers up on mt olympus finally acknowledge and do what needs to be done to ensure their investment continues to be valued as highly as it is.

Probably nonsense. I'm just posting the stats. You can read into them what you'd like.

And Atkinson at the Bridge two seasons ago was like watching Italy v. S Korea at the Japorea World Cup. The latter performance was so bad that my dad (who is a retired FIFA ref) sent a letter to FIFA questioning the appointment system.
 
There's always the possibility that he's just bad at refereeing big games.

TBH I never liked his presence and decision making in almost every game he'd been given that I watched (and he gets worse in big games).
 
So...no signings ahead of Chelsea I guess. Looks like I might have a reason to watch deadline day for the first time in years! So that's one good thing I guess.
 
I really doubt Rooney will be sold. Unless we somehow get Lewandowski or another striker, I don't think we'd sell him. It's all just media talk and Mourinho mind-games for Monday's match
 
I'd be surprised if Rooney is sold now, I had almost expected him to go at one point, but now he's played against Swansea, he's joined the squad for the team bonding meal, I think he has perhaps accepted he will be staying.

Looking forward to moving on from this saga regardless of the outcome really, really hasn't been ideal to be talking about Rooney this summer.
 
I think once it became clear that Fabregas wasn't coming the decision was made for Rooney.

I think it's just delaying the inevitable, he'll be sold next summer, hopefully by then to someone else and Chelsea have moved on.

Given their proclivity to defend, you could probably play a match and they'd still not get within 50 yards of each other ;)
 
Here's my bold prediction for the season. If we don't get in a single midfielder of quality (and it now sounds like we won't) we're going to finish either 4th or potentially even 5th.

Because at some point Michael Carrick will be injured, and we will then have 0 talented central midfielders playing for us.

I hope this happens. Because I've just checked and despite all of this summer's woeful business, poor preseason and our rivals strengthening significantly, our share price has continued to rise since June.

And in the end, Ed Woodward is there to do one thing, and one thing only: maximise shareholder value.

So if bringing in tire sponsorships rather than new players is the best way to achieve that, then so be it.

From the Glazer's point of view, financially there's not a ton of difference between finishing 1st and finishing 4th. So why bother trying to spend alongside sugar daddy clubs - when your club can just be the top of the 'profitable' clubs?

Let's not forget there are still a significant number of influential millionaires walking around the place who would not accept a shift away from performance on the pitch.. SAF included.

Cool, fair enough, cheers for the opinion.

I'm a strategy consultant - I'm just putting it through my own personal lens. If the Glazers hired a strategy team to devise a method to maximise their return from United, that's what they would be told.

Especially given most LBOs look for an exit strategy after about 10 years, and we're coming up on that in the near term.

Now it's entirely possible I'm full of sh*t, and that Moyes literally has a 'blank check' to buy anyone and everyone he wants. I don't know. I'm not privy to that information. All I know are the facts from our club and others:
1. Moyes said he identified the midfield as needing strengthening
2. Moyes confirmed we tried and failed to buy Cesc (for apparently a very small fee)
3. Ed Woodward rushed home from Aussie land on transfer business
4. Everton confirmed we made a derisory offer for Baines and Fellaini.

That's it. That's the summer of transfers. In our biggest transitional year in modern memory.

So call me full of sh*t that's fine, but at least share your opinion.
