So I'm moving tonight's game between Brasil and Argentina here.
You all know what happened right?
And looks like Brasil got a win.
Here's my take on it.
Bolsonaro , president of Brasil ,tin foil guy ,up there with mr orange.
Why would he get involved in this (which I'm sure he is) since Corona is a myth according to him ,suddenly enforcing strict Corona policy?

This is so fishy.
Sorry for bringing in politics ,but there's no other way to explain this without it.
What weird night.

Argentina complied with all FIFA regulations regarding COVID.
Upon entering Brazil, the Argentinian players shown their passports to Brazilian authorities, which means they could see where each player had been in the past 15 days. They let them in.
Then, the Argentina NT have been in Brazil for at least 72 hours.
ANVISA (Brazilian sanitary entity) were yesterday at the hotel were the Argentinian delegation were staying and training. They didn't do or say anything.
They waited until the game started and was already 5 minutes in to enter the pitch (illegally) and stop it.

So... how is it a win for Brazil?.
You were right about one thing: It is fishy.

If instead of Argentina, it had been Peru or Venezuela or any other team, this wouldn't have happened.
They're still hurting because of the Copa America we won right there in Brazil. I'm excluding Brazilian players and manager as I genuinely think they wanted to play and had nothing to do with all this bureaucracy and political bullshit.

I think FIFA will give the match to Argentina and may even punish Brazil with something more.
 
Wow, hadn't seen this. Do you think Brazil were worried about losing after losing the Copa America to Argentina? Surely there's no way they can get awarded a win for that.

This is so weird ,but yet calculated ,and I'm sure it's from the top floor as well Chuny.
Yeah I hope so ,I hope they investigate this properly.
Can fifa over turn this ,when it's south American federations involved (CONMEBOL)?
punishment afterwards yes ,but right now when it's ongoing?

What a shit show ,guess you're pretty furious ,rightly so.

World-Cup Qualifiers are held under FIFA.
CONMEBOL acts as "intelligence agency", if you will. As an intermediary.

We'll see what ends up happening but according to AFA, Argentina did everything properly according to FIFA/CONMEBOL regulations.

Brazilian politics (the match was happening in Sao Pablo, a big city that have always been against Bolsonaro and his COVID policies, so much so that no Copa America match was played in Sao Pablo) got in the middle and took Argentina as hostages.

I've never seen anything like this happen before. Interrupting a match and suspending it 5 minutes after it started when they had all the time in the world to do it earlier?. They wanted the whole world to see it.
 
Been following this Harvey Elliot story, and seeing pictures of him in hospital. This got me thinking...

For how long do clubs hand over their prized assets to the NHS in the aftermath of serious injury?

This isn't a criticism of the NHS, but football clubs - especially at Liverpool's level - will have their own specialists on hand.

I'm assuming it's a case of hospitalisation for the emergency treatment before the clubs swiftly take over for recovery.

But what of emergency surgery? I'm aware that the quality of surgeon can vary hugely, so does a club put tens of millions of pounds in the hands of any surgeon?

Serious injuries are often treated over seas ,knee specialists etc in America.
Don't think they'll let their expensive possessions be treated by "normal" healthcare.

I wonder how many serious injured players from the 90s that had to retire early (van Basten Ronaldo) could be helped and had longer careers today.
If you have the time ,Google Van Basten and his treatment of his career ending injury , bizarro read

Pretty much everyone knows Dr Richard Steadman - THE guy for rebuilding knees. He was never off Sky Sports News in the 00s!

It's more the emergency stuff though. I just find it odd that the billionaire-drained NHS would cater for the billionaire-backed EPL. Only a matter of time before each team has its own hospital and medical chopper. I don't even know if I'm joking.

On Van Basten et al it would be fascinating. I understand his ankle was hacked away at repeatedly and it seems as if the treatment was rudimentary, even for the time. Ronaldo is the one for me. What might have been, given how much I love what was.

They hacked it off ,had some steel contraption (like a boot/iron maiden) with spikes straight in to his leg ,with open wounds for over a year ,24/7 painful as hell.
He gave up when he woke up one night and had to crawl to the toilet biting in to a towel not to scream and wake his family up.

His stats were insane in Milan ,him and Ronaldo my favourites

Sorry I somehow missed this post from a while ago. You are correct in every assessment you made, except this one quoted here. 2 of the 4 Argentinian players in question have dual citizenship, and hence, a second passport. They could've easily entered the country by showing whichever passport didn't have a "British stamp", but I find it weird that the other 2 players (Martinez and Romero) only have one passport... Anyways, I can cite me as an example: I have both Brazilian and Italian citizenship. I once entered London with my Italian passport, but then showed my Brazilian one to get out, and got an ear full while leaving (from British customs), but not when arriving in Brazil, so besides all things being fishy (and I completely agree), I can attest to the fact that Brazilian customs authorities are severely incompetent.

I also agree with you that both the Brazilian players and manager (Tite) wanted the game to be played, but the Brazilian confederation (CBF), being the corrupt organization that it is, might have worked behind the scenes for all of this "circus" to happen as some kind of retaliation since they were not able to call up the Brazilian players from the Premier League (most notably Alisson, Fabinho, Gabriel Jesus and Firmino).

If CBF's "foul play" can be proved, I really hope that they get sanctioned and that Brazil lose the game (And I have absolutely no problems with that, as I am amongst the millions of Brazilians that rooted for Argentina in the Copa America final, mostly because of the "Mussolini-cosplay-posing-as-president", whom accepted to host the competition, just to keep his ongoing necropolitics agenda... I also personally can't stand Neymar, or any other Brazilian player that support the genocidal maniac), but since it was the Argentinian players that have abandoned the match (and understandably so, since they were standing up for their 4 teammates in question), I fear it's AFA instead that will be punished, unfortunately.
 
Forgive me if this has been discussed, does anyone think the new (I don't even know when this changed) handball rules are fair?

My cases in point are Liverpool's penalty when it clearly deflected off the defenders knee to his elbow in 0.2 seconds. Then you also have City's pen where the ball was headed straight into the defenders arm at a distance of <1 meter.

Why dont the defenders just play with straitjacket then? Frustrating to see watching the games as a neutral.
 
I think it has always been a pen if it looks like the hand might have saved a goal. Shouldn't really be any card give though, unless obviously intentional.

.. apparently after 19/20 season, the IFAB changed the rule which I believe used to be that the handball must be deliberate to be called. EDIT: have no idea what it was lol

So ..

How does the new handball rule work?​

A free kick or penalty will be awarded if:
  • the ball goes into the goal after touching an attacker's hand or arm.
  • a player wins ball possession after it comes off their hand or arm and then scores, or creates a goalscoring chance.
  • the ball touches a player's hand/arm which has made their silhouette unnaturally bigger.
  • the ball touches a player's hand/arm when it's raised above their shoulder.
There will be no penalty if:
  • the ball touches a player's hand/arm immediately from their own head/body/foot or the head/body/foot of another player.
  • the ball touches a player's hand/arm close to their body and has not made their silhouette unnaturally bigger.
  • a player is falling and the ball touches their hand/arm when it is between their body and the ground (but not extended to make the body bigger).
  • additionally, should the goalkeeper attempt to clear a ball from a teammate but fails, the goalkeeper is allowed to handle the ball.
.. by this, both of the penalties I mentioned were clearly not penalties.

But at the end of the day it's all up to that ref I guess.

One of those players I both love and hate at the same time.
His background playing non league football working at the porcelain factory and being on benders Friday-monday makes him human and likeable.

Someone else doing wonders is David Moyes. He's turned West Ham into a team that could genuinely contend for fourth place if he can keep key players fit and with some great bargain signings as well. Picking up Coufal and Soucek last season, Benrahma now coming good after a season to adjust. Then there's Antonio who's become a top class striker from being a sometimes dangerous but usually unpredictable player with no real fixed position.
 
Brentford - Liverpool was a bit crazy, not mad about it though, Brentford were good. That circus about Pinnock was a laugh though, they played an obviously injured player for a ridiculous amount of time.

Great to see a promoted team prepared to have a right go at top teams rather than camp behind the ball and see if they can get a 0-0 or low scoring defeat.
