Re: The ARSENAL Thread - 7th Heaven
Arsenal are a good team, but they have been hyped up by a media machine that wants to see them win all honours. Its typical media bollox. The media on the other hand will no doubt jizz themselves over Arsenal's "ferociousness" and "awe inspiring football" while ignoring United's domination and demolition of Kiev - away where some clubs failed to show up on Russian soil. Peter Drury was simply sickening last night on ITV. He may as well of confirmed that he has been a life long fan since a child - some of the tripe he came out with was truly cringe worthy when commenting on the game at the Emirates – The media will always be biased towards Arsenal revelling in thier success, due to them being a team from the capital. If it’s not their "amazing youngsters" (whom are not all together that young - most of which purchased, not produced), it’s their "God like" football.
Don't get me wrong the 7-0 scoreline is a fantastic result against any Champions League team. However I just cannot stand people jumping on the "Arsenal the Football Gods" wankfest bandwagon.
I think people should wait until December in the deep winter months when Arsenal have to play some tough teams who will take it to them before getting carried away. They have not played any of top 3 clubs such as Liverpool, United or Chelsea as of yet. That will be a true test to see if they really are genuine title contenders
Their football is only as 'pretty' as it was 2-3 years ago when they had the same problem; a lack of bottle against teams who'll stick the boot in. I don’t doubt that many dribbling invalids like pretty tricks and flicks, but with Arsenal it's not backed up by any real backbone or bottle. It never has been and I doubt ever will with Wenger at the helm. He prefers his soft tender kids to be all pretty and delicate in the way they play.
The lauding of Arsenal will look as desperate and agenda driven come February as the lauding of Liverpool at the beginning of the season when Liverpool triumphed over the Mighty Derby 6-0 to win the League in September the media had you believe. It's a shame to see that as with Liverpool, Arsenal fans have fallen into the trap of believing Arsenal have actually done something already by beating a few small time teams.
