I knew they would score when they got that free kick. Pedersen is probably the best free kick taker in the league.

The Ox was amazing! Yeah, he grabbed 2 goals. But he did much more than that, he's got not only pace, but real skills and unpredictable drop of shoulders, feint and movements... plus, he has amazing vision. He did a couple of long balls and crosses that really show what he's capable of. There was one particular moment when he got rid of 3 defenders and made a sweet cross on the far post for Arteta, who volleyed it over the bar. Had it gone in, would be one of the best goals of the season.

Walcott had 3 assists today, all of them very similar, passing it on the ground towards the middle of the box. The third one was better, as he got rid of 2 defenders before delivering the final pass.
That's the kind of thing Walcott can do, beat defenders with his pace and roll it along the ground. Most of the other times he tried crossing it wasn't very good, he still has to work on that. And his finishing too.

But overall, all 3 attacking players did very very well indeed today.

Cocquelin was fantastic, he made RVP's 3rd goal with an individual piece of skill.

There will be hightlights of it by now around the web.
 
ANyone think that the presense of henry being about can lift the team just as much as his potential ability.

To have Henry back in the dressing room etc
 
What a great match, Coquelin's pass to Walcott for the first goal was fantastic.
Van Persie's assist for Chamberlain was even better.
3 Assists from Walcott, and that for a guy who was written off after the Bolton match (and having seen the highlights of that match, what did he wrong? The first "sitter" was a "save" by the GK, the second was a difficult one, definitely not a sitter).

Song, once again was great, fantastic passing skills...


One negative point: in 2 seasons Oxlade Chamberlain will be written off. After his recent good and fantastic (today) matches, the expectations will be sky high (at least a new Messi, i know i exagerate) and in two years people will treat him like Walcoot now...They will feel the player let them down, whereas they let themselves down with the massive expextations.

Oh and one more thing: only a team with Wenger as manager (or Barcelona) plays football like this...really enjoyed it...don't play like that against Spurs, please...
 
Our next 4 games will be really tough, 2 possible away games to Sunderland (Who are playing really well at the moment) in the league and FA cup. Also a Trip to Milan sandwiched inbetween....then Spurs coming to visit us, which will be a HUGE game.

If we can get good results in those, then the mood will lift somewhat, but with how unpredictable we are, I don't know what to expect.

Walcott had a very good day today for his standards, but I still think his game is too 2 dimensional. Run and pass it to the middle of the box.
The Ox looked a much more complete player to me right from the beginning. I remember Walcott in his early days and he didn't get me excited as I'm now about Ox.
The kid has got many qualities already that Walcott will never possess, like his shooting on goal. Since his debut at a Carling Cup tie against City I was impressed with his shooting from long range. Also, he seems one of the few who tries to shoot from long range in this team (not even RVP tries it too often). Let's see how long it lasts until Wenger tells him to stop shooting on goal and adopt his fucking tippy tappy approach.
 
Yeah I don't want to get ahead of myself but Chamberlain looks a different prospect to Walcott in terms of potential.
 
My post wasn't optimistic, I was basically saying although this game was good we have 4 coming up that are going to be hard and IF we do well in those then we can start feeling a bit happier. :))

Chamberlain does look very good.

I can deal with Walcott being 2dimensional if he sets up 3 goals every game.
 
One alreayd becomes aware of the unrezlistic high expectations about Chamberlain.
Suddenly Walcott is two-dimensional.

Most fans of English top teams are spoiled brats.

Walcott is a fantastic player..if he can stay injury free, he will be a better player than Chamberlain who is nowhere as good as most people expext him to be now.

To all these Arsenal fans who have big expectations about Chamberlain how good do you expect him to become, i will give you a couple of reference points.

2 Theo Walcott
3 Chris Waddle
4 Rooney
5 Henry
6 Romario
7 Messi

I don't want to compare him with those players, i take them as a reference point. So if i talk about Romario, i don't want you to think about Romario the goal scorer versus Chamberlain the goal scorer. Romario at one time was the best player of the world. Henry was once the best in Europe, Rooeny could be the best in England (or is/was the best in the EPL), Waddlle was an important player for a club that won the CL and Messi is a legend.
I started with 2 because it is possible (just like in my case) that can think that Chamberlain will be less good than Walcott.

To me Walcott is less a player than Waddle was, then comes Rooney, Henry was better than Rooney, Romario better than Henry and Messi is the best.

Seriously though, for a fan (spoiled or not) who have been watching this team for over a decade, players come and go and you just know when a special player comes along.

Walcott has never shown (and never will) a repertoire so extensive as Chamberlain already has in him. He's too rough a diamond, but still you see his composure on the ball, the way he hits it, his vision and the execution of his passes! Watch the highlights from yesterday and see a play he made in the left wing, beating 3 defenders and putting in a sweet lob to Arteta on the far post. This is the stuff you will never see Walcott doing. And if you say that was a fluke, I'll walk away right now and give up...

Since my comments are often discredited by some "neutrals" who come here, I suggest you not to take it from me. Take it from Wenger then. Why the hell did he break the club's record £17m on a teenager? There has to be something about him.

And as for Ox's confidence and form, oh yeah, he is sizzling right now!

Walcott made a hattrick of assists yesterday and you have to give him credit for it. But I don't get easily excited about it because I look at his previous 10 matches and I see almost no end product there.
He's one of the most overrated players around, he's never under scrutiny as Arshavin is, fans don't boo him if he doesn't defend (which he did none against United), he gets hyped up by the media and people seem to buy it.

Now recently, rumour has it Walcott has asked for a pay raise up to 100k a week. That's a rather unrealistic request and even if it wasn't, you have to put your money where your mouth is before anything.

I'm not buying this easily, Walcott has a lot to prove IMO.

I don't think Walcott has it easy at all, most people I know don't rate him, so I don't know who is overrating him? I don't see much hyping by the media either? I see pundits criticising him all of the time.

I don't think he is amazing, but I think he had a good start to the season, a rubbish December and January and hopefully after this game a good end to the season.

At 22 I think he has alot to offer Arsenal....but if he wants 100k a week he can think again :))

With the Ox and Walcott on either side they can put fear into defences and that is what I am hoping for.

Regarding where the Ox will be in a few years or how good, is just like pissing in the wind, he has only played a handful of games, but he does look very good and I agree with rentboy, seems to have alot more to his game than Walcott.

As Bobby said, it's unpredictable. Plus, each player can be unique in their own way. But if I had to choose from the examples you gave I'd say he could well end up being somewhere between Rooney and Henry. He is more similar to Rooney to be honest, his body build is similar (and already impressive for his age) and he seems to be a very complete player, like Rooney is. Not only goals about him, but great passing, speed and movement. With the difference that Rooney is a natural CF, so he has more sense of positioning, great with headers and so on. Whilst Ox is very tricky with the ball, more focused on wing play.
And pretty much as Rooney, he seems impressive from an early age.

So far this kid has all the qualities on and off the field for fans to admire. On the pitch he shows sheer joy to play and a lot of quality. And in all his interviews he is very humble and his attitude is spot on. If he keeps it real, keeps this right attitude and always work hard, he has it in him to be one of the world's best players in the near feature. Top 10 material definitely.


BTW, as for Walcott, he can be an asset to Arsenal, especially when he his 26/27 years old, but at 22 special players are already showing.

Yeah I remember, but I can't remember Pennant doing anything for us? it was a while ago now though. Maybe a couple of goals?

Pennant had such a crap attitude from what I can remember, it is always the downfall of a gifted young player. It is like a cancer, they can have all of the technical ability in the world, but if they have the wrong attitude it can eat away at them, just ask Bentley.

Hopefully the Ox can keep his feet on the ground and doesn't think he is the best player in the world and better than the club he is at.

Walcott (If the rumours of his wage request are true?) is letting his ego take him over a bit, which will only end badley for him. Hopefully it isn't true and he continues to try to improve his game at Arsenal.
 
As a spurs fan, I have to say I am very impressed with The Ox in the way he conducted himself in the post match press conference yesterday, very level-headed, very grounded. I think the sky's the limit for the young man, depending on how AW uses him. Has to go to the euros ahead of Walcott IMO.

Saw the highlights of the game yesterday and he looks way more composed than Walcott, doesn't hesitate, he knows what he want's to do with the ball. I hope he doesn't play like that on Feb 26th...

Btw, what a game at the Bridge that was...pheeew!

Every 10 or 15 years there is a player like this in the entire league...every 30 or 40 years you can expect such a player at a club.
And what if turns out to be between Walcott and Waddle? I'm sure most people that expect more from him will see him as a failure...not a single player of the EPL can be seen as a failure (not even Andy Carroll).
Expectations like that are a terrible burden for a player.

Rentboy, don't take this personally...this isn't directed at you. In fact i want you people to consider from the point of view of the player...

agreed ...also, think the race for fourth is the biggest I remember. The bridge is not what it use to be...3 goal lead!!! :SMUG:

I don't take it personally at all. Mind you that it's best case scenario, if everything goes well in his career I do think he's perfectly equipped to be a Club legend at Arsenal and at the National Team.

I've seen loads of promising players turning into squad players because of their egos and attitude. Others get ruined by injury (touch wood on that one!)

In that scale of yours, in fact, I already see him ahead of Walcott. Maybe because you rate Walcott much higher than I do.
He may well be one of the most exciting players of his generation, only time will show us in the next 6 to 10 years.

You are right when you say to keep our expectations down and to think from the point of view of the player. But things are happening for him already. Is he burdened by being the club's most expensive transfer? He is showing otherwise. He looks very mature for his age and with the right attitude, so I guess Arsenal fans can't help themselves but to see a great future ahead!
 
Good post rentboy.

I don't rate Walcott that high. He is a good player, not as good as most fans thought he would become, but better than what people think about him now.
He's a very good EPL player and is on the edge of the national team.
His growth was disturbed by injuries.

diddnt have time to post about it. I am normally busy in weekends. i watched the game live on TV though.

Ox was immensed but so was Walcott. We diddnt miss ramsey and When Henrys cored i got a boner and wet my pants.
 
Walcott a fantastic player?

Thank god he have alot of speed cause Walcott being fantastic doesnt go together. Walcott had 3 assist but thats about what you get once out of 20 games from him.

While OX been starting and you can clearly see what kind of potential he posses and how he improve in EVERY game he plays! So much potential.

IMO Theo Walcott will be the next jermaine pennant! =p

Arshavin was tried and tested and a top international player before he came to Arsenal. He has accomplished more then walcoot, Ox and Pennantput together....hes played out of position and out of form...but hes no kid hes 29....cant compare...
 
Arshavin played in that position when he came to us and played very well. He has had some great games in the position he was given, so I don't buy the whole played out of position thing. We played him down the middle for a couple of spells and he didn't do amazing in a central position.

I also don't think anybody called Walcott 'fantastic'? but he definately isn't rubbish and before December this year was playing really well. So the whole does it 1 game and then you have to wait 20 doesn't really hold up (It only used to hoild up because he kept getting injured after a few games played, but now he is playing without injuries)

The Ox is better than any player before him aswell, because we can call him 'The Ox' that is special :DD
 
You are a very realistic fan Bobby. If a player plays half a season very well, you don't call him te new Maradonna and if that same player has a lesser period you are not saying he's useless.

I know they earn an awfull lot of money, but those young people are scrutinised way too much...i seriously feel for players like Arshavin and Torres who's every ball touch is scrutinised and criticized unreasonably...most of us (including me) would succomb under the pressure...we tend to forget that.
