Our transfer window misfortune is no theory of mine. It's a combination of lack of planning, Wenger being cheap playing hardball and the sheer financial doping of our rivals.
Chelsea hadn't done a single move for Mata. After our failed bid, they came along and took him from under our noses.
The Mata deal should have done as swiftly as possible and no playing around. Wenger was hesitating, bargaining and still waiting to see if Nasri would stay, when in fact he had one foot out the door.
And God knows that we didn't properly replace Nasri and Fabregas. Arteta came and he's very good and consistent, but nowhere near as creative as them.
Just the other day my mate was telling me how Phil Jones could have joined Arsenal, but United came along and outbid us.
All I'm saying is that AW needs to rethink the way he operates in the transfer market. You don't see United beating around the bush when they want to sign someone. You see they doing it quietly and quickly.
All of our transfer sagas are down to Wenger playing hardball with other teams. Just remember Arshavin's last minute saga. Or when we needed a goalkeeper badly, were on the verge of signing Schwarzer, but the deal stalled because Fulham was asking £3m and AW offered £2m. The result of that, as we know it, was 1 full season packed with emotion with Almunia and Fabianski on goal.
