I hope you give a newly crowned 'Champion' in RVP a nice reception.![]()
that was before his statement on leaving...Arsenal has no plan in wining the titles ATM. Mutd was his only option to win imo.'The bottom line is that I want to win trophies with Arsenal, not with anybody else. It's my dream and I see no point in speaking about other teams when I have these dreams. I think other people know that about me; I’m just hungry to win with Arsenal and that's it.'
That's Robin van Persie speaking in February 2011.
I'm sorry Bobby, i respect you a lot, but why would Arsenal fans be mad at RVP ?
He served you well.
In the end he left and like you said, you blame the club for that.
People like RVP but also Song, Fabregas, Clichy and Nasri have left the club because they want real trophy's (not a 4th place). I don't see what is wrong with that.
I realize that fans are pissed because guys like Nasri and RVP have (supposedly?) said some things in the press about winning silverware. I don't understand why fans seem to take that personal.
Both Modric and Berbatov left Spurs after some conflicts, i would never boo them i've they would come back to White Hart Lane (i've never been to White Hart Lane to be honest, but you know what i mean) i would applaud them for all what they did for Spurs.
I've never understood the "Judas" thing about Campbell too...the way some Spurs fans reacted to Campbell is moronic. If i had an offer for a better job, i would not hesitate, not would 99% of these moaners...football is a job for these people. And i don't buy the argument that it isn't a job like others... For us it might seem a dream (for me personally not at all) but for them it is as much routine as our job...

But let's suppose that the Arsenal had listened to RVP and changed things, maybe he would have stayed (i know it is a very long shot).
What i want to say is that it is an extremely fine line between being a player who is seen as a club icon and who always act for the greater intrest of the club, and a player who is a deserter. Maybe the player who ended up being a deserter started as a club icon.
There are examples enough: one that comes to my mind most recently is Iker Casillas at Real. Before that there was Raul, also with Real...
Sometimes things are not what they seem.
Can you blame a player like Song when he leaves because Barcelona wants him. Would it not be great tell your kids and their kids that you played for perhaps the greatest club team of all times (it's strange to write this after yesterday evening).
Modric left Spurs for Real Madrid, is he a regular ? No. If i have one regret it's not because he left, but because he hardly plays, that is such a shame. Same goes for Berbatov when he was with United. But maybe both Modric and Berbatov depsrately wanted to play for an iconic club (and IMO both Spurs and Arsenal aren't iconic clubs, England has only two iconic clubs: Man Utd and Liverpool).
I'm pretty sure Song realised that he would not be a regular player. But maybe he wanted that badly to play for Barcelona. Can you blame him ? I don't think so.
As for Nasri, well he is an idiot.

We have nothing to play for Beach, we'll be full strength with the points record to strive for.

That..and RvP's golden boot, gotta keep Bale at a safe distance
Actually kinda looking forward to this one. Even though we may not have not have to win this, I would hate to lose.
I have mixed feelings on the RvP saga..I was a fan of his before joining Utd, but I will agree that he could/should have played his outside communication card a little better. Because we will probably never know about the full extent of what went on behind closed doors, his words were looked upon as disrespectful towards Arsenal as a whole. Unfortunately, I would wager that a lot of Gunners agree with some of his frustration regarding the management of the club. Had he criticized them and stayed, a lot folks probably would have agreed with the man.
Because he left, it suddenly became a "him versus us" rather than a "him for us" scenario.
I tend to think that the only ones who will get satisfaction out of any verbal abuse RvP will get, will be Arsenal's upper management. Not the team or coaching staff.

I think the glowing way he talks about Arsenal should be taken into account, he hasn't badmouthed the club once since he's left, if anything he's done the opposite.
Unlike the players prior to him you have to consider his age and what he's won, it was now or never for him at 29.

I would love to see Neville vs Schmiechel tunnel snub, but players aren't like that just us fans.![]()
