Arsenal Thread

We mostly win in friendlies , we have 90% of the squad :P .

Ramsey been improving on his dribbling :P

Wow, nice moves. I'm sure being in a friendly helped to have that confidence, but I think it is significant nonetheless.

Those types of tricks aren't raw talent. You can pick them up through training, which means he's been working at improving his dribbling. Good work Ramsey.

edit: Maybe, Ramsey finally accepted the reality of having to play as a make-shift winger! :D Thus, the reason for his practicing dribbles.

We don't need a big CB signing. I think for the first time in a long while we are fine with our defence. Koscielny and Per are 1st choice IMO, as they have been lately, with Vermaelen being an option to rotate. The only problem is that we let Djourou go, if not we'd have a complete CB set for the whole season.

I've said it here a few times, the English media loves to criticize Mertesacker with the old tired remarks such as 'he is too slow for the Premier League' while the same people rave over... Gary Cahil!

Make no mistake, Per Mertesacker is a world class CB. He more than makes up for his lack of pace with his outstading reading of the game. Last season there were very few times when he was found wanting.

That said, I think a GK and a defensive midfielder would do for us. A striker perhaps, as a bonus.

But what we read in the press is the other way around: Wenger going for strikers as a priority, and now he is raising his bid on Suarez! This is very hard to believe coming from Wenger.

I thought a logical order would be Rooney to Chels and Torres to Arsenal, while Suarez joining RM. I think a DM that can sometimes play CB would be perfect !

It is hard to imagine for me that a manager like Wenger wants a player like Suarez. Wenger always looked a person to me who attached much importance to the ethical side of things, winning is important but not at all costs...Suarez strikes me as a player who wants to win at all costs, he doesn't matter if he wins dirty....

Of course Wenger hasn't been spotless in the past: Beveren (i realise this must annoy Arsenal fans that i regularly come up with Beveren, but people who know my posts will also know that i have a soft spot for Arsenal... one should not be blind for the mistakes of the things one likes).

I feel the same way. I still have trouble believing Wenger really is pushing so hard for Suarez. But it seems to be true. Even Rooney would have been a more believable target for me than Suarez.

He is a fantastic player, but I don't know how well he will fit in at Arsenal. I just don't feel like Suarez and Arsenal are a good match. But Wenger knows best I guess.

Yeah I suspect Wenger just wants to win - no matter how. 8 years without winning stuff and having people on your back about it during all season must be hard.

To me it's a pitty Suarez did what he did at the end of a very good season, when he was doing all his talking on the pitch. His goal output was phenomenal.
But just as the media was beggining to get off his back, he did that.

I think Higuain would suffice, for a much smaller fee. I think Higuain is not in the same bracket as Suarez as a player, but he would surely come without all that negative baggage.
But now Napoli sold Cavani to PSG and are loaded with cash, so it seems they can do the business quickly and snatch Higuain right from under Wenger's nose.

EDIT: by the way, speaking of Suarez, this is hilarious:

Suarez the player would grace any team, but the baggage he has just fucks it up.

He is so unpredictable, he can leave you in the lurch at any moment. If he came he wouldn't be allowed to play for the first lot of games and if he does anything else he would get more lengthy bans.

He has no loyalty either, so he will be off if everything isn't going how he wants it. Which is more than likely at Arsenal, plus he will start off with most fans hating him.

It is an extremely risky buy for all of that money.

If we get him it will be a massive gamble by Wenger and could blow up in his face.....but there is that small chance he may have learned his lesson and wants to redeem himself.

If you get a Suarez without the shit, then you have one of the best strikers in the world on your hands.

For me I would hate him to come and would prefer Higuain much much more. But there is still that little part of me that is interested to see Suarez with us and as most fans if he plays well for us and bangs in the goals, we will all quickly forget how much of a dick he is.....especially if we win something at last.

....but I really don't want him to come :PP

Or stupid Arsenal, you can never know. This would be the case if what Perez said was true (no bids from Arsenal).
But then again, that guy is a proper tool, as we know, and he could be making up stuff. Real Madrid are keen on Suarez too, so they could be trying to include Higuain in that deal and leave Arsenal out of the loop.

That's a theory that explains why Wenger went for Suarez instead raising middle fingers sky high to Perez.

Truth is that is all speculation. But Higuain himself must be feeling uneasy if he had agreed personal deals with Arsenal and now he sees Wenger going after Suarez. And now Napoli steps in too... what a fine mess.

It can almost never be straight forward with Arsenal transfers, can it?

He is an exceptional talent. Has it all really, very fast, good finishing, passing, vision. Can play in both wings and in the hole. Congratulations.
Maybe this means you are are goign to play Podolski as a striker and stop looking for one?
If you buy Fellaini or Bender I think you are going to be a very very serious contender for the title.

I hope we didnt sign Bernard. We don`t need a winger and his price is over £20m . We need a CB/DM/ST not a winger! I saw that too about Bernard on Twitter ESPN Brasil reporter, it remind me when we bought Joel Campell. The thing with Bernard is he wont get a work permit.

He clearly will get a work permit. He is the hottest prospect Brasil have now under 20 and has already played with the national team.

Weird... These rumours just surfaced but the only English clubs being linked by the Brazilian media with Bernard are Liverpool and Tottenham.

As per usual, there's no apparent movement whatsoever by Arsenal in the transfer market as it is.
To add insult to injury, Jovetic is almost certain to sign with Man City.
So there you go.

Well, I read that the transfer window closes 20th and that`s tomorrow evening. He is not going anywhere if that`s the case.

Well stop talking crazy guys, we've been top of the league for 1 month now: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/tables

Seriously, Arsenal looks lost in this transfer market. I vowed not to get worked up about it, but seeing Jovetic going to Man City for 22m pounds feels like a Desert Eagle shot to my balls. In the meantime we're all over the place bidding 23m for Higuain here, 30m for Suarez there... WTF happened with our interest in Jovetic and how come we get outsmarted time and again?

This is getting ridiculous, it's July the fucking 20th and there are no signs of spending. Our only new boy is Sanogo, who came on a free.

I don't think it's the end of the world if we don't sign a striker, but we have trouble at GK position and an aging midfield with Arteta improvised as our most defensive guy (and he's 31 now). Plus Rosicky gets 5 games a season, Diaby is Diabied... on paper we look loaded with midfielders but when push comes to shove we always find ourselves short.

Do they think they have an edge because Arsene Wenger is the longest serving manager now? Is it "Like A New Signing"? I'm at a loss here, fellas. While we do fuck all in the market, all this Gazidis crap about "we have money to spend" sounds almost like a taunt, in all seriousness.

The thing is we have no clue what is going on, so to get worked up about it at this time isn't that great.

The papers make up things and stir things for their own agenda, we dont know about negotiations what has happens etc

We see names appearing earlier and then when we don't win them we are incompetent?

Maybe Wenger wants an all out striker for us, which Jovetic isn't by all accounts. He has around 70million to spend, I really think we need a striker and I find it weird that you don't Rentboy? after moaning about Wenger playing Gervinho and Walcott there, the only other person is Podolski and although I think he can play well as the main striker it is not his natural position. If we want to be challenging we need that other world class striker to be an option with Giroud up front. Wenger looks like he is willing to pay big for that person.

Around 30m on a needed striker Imo
Decent keeper around 10m
Midfielder 25mill

That's 65 already and we might have to pay more for either the striker or midfielder and we also need another back up defender.

So I don't think Jovetic was a priority (don't get me wrong after hearing about him and seeing some footage and stats I would have liked him).

It sounds like Wenger is looking and by players we are linked to is not afraid at spending the money.

I hope he does it soon and I know by recent transfer windows we have left it late, but I don't think the signs at that ominous at the moment.......a couple more weeks and then it will be a problem.

We don't know what's going on, I agree. But we just connect the dots with what we've got. I think it's fair to say Arsenal were quite interested in Jovetic. So we are throwing bids of around 23m for Higuain, 30m for Suarez... City landed Jovetic for 22m.
Take your own conclusions.

Signing Jovetic would have certainly appeased the fans, not only that, he's a top talent, I really rate him.

Whether or not he's an out and out striker (if that's what Wenger really is after, that is) I think it's a real pitty we missed out on him. That guy is one for the here and now, as well as for the future, many years to come.

Now between Higuain and Suarez I don't know what I'd prefer. Higuain for 23m pounds would already be a lot of money IMO. A striker which (in my biased opinion) isn't all that. He has great stats, but he never really 'wowed' me.
23m would be feasible I guess, but Madrid asking 37m euros is outrageous. They're pricing him out really.
Whereas Suarez is proven Premier League material, proved he can bang 20+ league goals in a season, hence the higher price. Not to mention I think he's a better all round player than Higuain. No adaptation required, however there's all the negative baggage.

With City stocking up on strikers, I'd go for Dzeko if I were Wenger. He's been a target in the past, plus he is another player who wouldn't have to adapt to the Prem.

Whoever it may be, Arsenal must do their stuff faster.
