Arsenal Thread

There is a difference though in a player wanting more playing time and wanting a move, to a team actually willing to sell that player. But then if they aren't getting playing time where they are, are they really that good? or at the level we need them for to fit in and really strengthen our team greatly?

I hope we do get a couple of new players a defender and a striker has to be top of the list at the moment, but I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't.

I don't know about that. Believe me, he's more optimistic about Arsenal than some Arsenal fans :)

I think Wenger doesn't have much of a choice. He has to get a striker in January and that's all there is to it. Unless Bendtner suddenly becomes a role model of a professional and Podolski finds a way to adapt as a CF, not to mention staying injury free.

Robert Lewandowski should be monitored and Arsenal should be open to spend big on him. If he still wants to leave Dortmund, they should prefer to sell him to a foreign team, instead to Bayern yet again! Unless Bayern (or another club) already have a deal in place for him.

If we can't get a top striker that will stay on, and just want a backup for Giroud, then I think the ideal solution would be to get someone on loan.

I really really have no idea about Yaya Sanogo. Did Wenger find out he has a prosthetic leg after signing him or something?
 
Arsenal players are way too injury prone. The weird thing is, when most of them recovered and got ready for the biggest matches, they just let us down...

Is it because i'm a Spurs fan (yes i still have the guts to write that here and at this moment :SHOCK::P) ?
I don't care in the least about the rivalry. I've always loved Arsenal's football under Wenger.
This year i would love Everton to become champions, but i wouldn't mind Arsenal at all winning it.
You guys are far too pessimistic. If Arsenal loose against Chelsea, you will speak about crisis and thus it become a self fullfilling prophecy...
Like i already wrote: Arsenal can easily loose all the big games and still become champions because (together with Everton) they are the only club that doesn't loose points against other clubs.
The English press and most of the fans are behaving very weird: they are all waiting for a crisis...a team looses one match and there they are: crisis !!!!
 
Gerd, firstly I want to apologize for my comment, if it has offended you. Now that I think about it, I can't find the sense in it :P

Anyway, I'm not waiting for a crisis at all (in fact, I don't think this PL leadership thing is real at all xD), I just say I hope we don't decay like in 2007/08 or 2010/11 as we showed to be real contenders and ended up fourth... Reminds me of Independiente's Apertura 2006 and the whole 2009/10 campaigns, which brought exactly the same results.

The thing is, the players' (and the fans too) morale has suddenly decayed after the last few matches, and I fear this might go on until the end of season, which I wish, for God's sake, that doesn't happen. It is said January and February are danger months for us since everyone gets injured on those stages, but at least on this campaign, our months in hell have passed, now all of them are recovering (only four left, can't wait to see Oz and Ox together!). Now the only things left to do is to regain confidence, get back the striker Podolski was in Bayern and the WC 2006 and/or purchase a proper striker or centre back.

BTW, I heard Diego Costa is likely to arrive at the Emirates. His clause is worth U$S 54 M (if someone can translate it to pounds or euros, he's welcome) and apparently he's unhappy with his current salary, which according to him doesn't coincide with his performances. As for me, I'm not quite sure if Costa is the man to buy, have you seen his temper? His dive in the last CdR match? Does Arsenal deserve this kind of player Suárez used to be?

But I wouldn't mind one bit. Everyone has a c*nt in their midst these days, what matters is football abilities.
People said Suarez is trouble, he spends too much time suspended. But hey, the guy missed the first 5 rounds through suspension and quickly climbed to the top of the goal scoring charts. People compare him and Aguero this season, but Aguero had a 5 round headstart :P
And now he will miss some games through injury too, from the looks of it.

I still haven't made my mind up about Diego Costa, but it looks like he means business.

As for the whole "yearly Arsenal crisis", the whole nation's press seems to be creaming themselves as they eagerly wait for the next one. I don't want to sound paranoid here, but I get the feeling the English press gets extra pleasure from criticizing Arsenal. Crisis this, "Le Collapse" that. "They should have bought Gary Cahil, now there's a top defender. Mertesacker isn't good enough for the Premier League"... and then Per scores 1-0, the winning goal at Wembley as German captain.
So all of this is amusing, Alan Shearer, Alan Hansen, Mark Lawrenson and other dinossaurs. It's gonna be great if Arsenal can shut them up.

If we get maintain a good performance through Jan and Feb, I think we will be good value for winning the league. Because for the past few seasons, March to May have been our strongest period in the league. We've been finishing the league in a strong way (but on those occasions we were doing it to get into the top 4, so hopefully this season it will be a battle to finish 1st).
 
Weird, Wilshere banned for 2 games for raising middle finger to fans, Suarez was banned 1 for identical act.

The FA don't really help themselves do they?

I agree with you about the additional striker. And new blood anywhere in the squad helps. Sometimes it's really that extra momentum that comes from a positive transfer that tips your team towards the championship while the teams with no activity seem to sink towards the bottom like still water.

I don't really feel as if Lewandowski is the forward we are looking for. I can't imagine why Bayern would want him (except to weaken Dortmund). They already have a giant striker in Mandzukic, and they let two others go in Mario Gomez and Klose.

I think we need a forward who is much more mobile than Lewandowski. Someone like Higuain or Suarez who can play up front if need be as a lone striker, but at the same time, can accompany Giroud by creeping towards the wing.

Lewandowskis contract expires in Summer, Dortmund won't sell him, he will leave on a free. He can choose the club whatever he wants and he will move to Bayern.

Diego Costa is that type of player
 
Costa is going somewhere and will be excellent wherever he ends up.

Would be absolutely perfect for Arsenal's system, imo.

But also mental.
 
Can't imagine he'd up and leave in the middle of the season? He's still fairly new at Madrid, just beginning to shine. Plus, he is cup-tied for Europe (which won't matter if we lose to Bayern :D :D)

Massive physique, must be a nightmare for any defender.
 
Same thing with Keisuke Honda at Milan, he might be useless on the Champions League, but that's not even the club's main priority. We NEED to lift some sort of cup-shaped silver trophy, and the nearest we are from that is the PL. Besides, as I said before, Costa is unhappy with his salary, so that opens a door for us.

AK, he has been at Atlético since 2007, having been loaned repeatedly because he was at the shadow of players of the likes of Forlán, Agüero and Falcao, he has gained minutes since the 2011-12 season, and brought to both stardom and controversy (this one for his own flamboyant personality and his dives) under the management of Diego Simeone. We might have a chance with him, I guarantee it.
 
That fact he just extended his contract is good business for Atl. Madrid. He left Brasil NT , because he owes so much to Spain. That doesn't sound like a guy ready to leave the country for more money.Falcao, Diego and top calibre ST don't leave mid season (WC year).
 
I think so to. Arsenal should go for a 6 month loan, for someone who's out of favour and looking for motivation and a new country, fresh start.

We did something like this in the past, when Wenger signed Julio Baptista on loan.

BTW, did anyone watch the Arsenal Legends: Thierry Henry documentary?

Hopefully the team doesn't come out thinking a draw will be enough to survive like they did against Napoli. Yeah, Chelsea don't look completely lethal, but they're still up there both in the league and the CL. They have a phenomenal sayad and we have to be on our best to beat them. Hopefully, we can expose some of their weaknesses.

Also, if we don't win/draw this game, we definitely don't deserve to be champions as we will again show that we are lacking the mental amd physical strength to win when it really matters.

I just feel we're lacking up front. Wish Podolski is back already.
