I wouldn't wholly agree there with you. Before our win against City and the sudden increase in morale and form, our season was in uncertainty. I think most were even doubting if we would get into top 4 (Soton & West Ham were still looking very strong back then).

Things are now settling into place, and I believe it was the introduction of Coquelin along other things that set things straight. Not because Coquelin is amazing, but it really added some much need balance and tenacity to the mid.

Well it's the Daily mail isn't it?

As for Arsenal getting a good run, it always happens at some point every season. Sometimes it is early, like last season when we were top of the league halfway through. Or sometimes we have a bad start and climb back up on the table. The fact we're unable to maintain this form during a whole season is what frustrates us. This is why we haven't been winning the league.
In a league so competitive, you have to be at your best like that for the whole duration of the thing, otherwise you fall short. It's ruthless, but it is what it is, there's almost no margin for error.

As for Coquelin, he helped a lot, no question. While it is only a part of the reason we improved, there's no doubt that introducing Coq made us better, more confident :D

EDIT: BTW, I remembered from the top of my head that we had a strong finish and a strong start in the 2012/13 and 2013/14 seasons. So I just checked and found out that in the calendar year of 2013 Arsenal picked up more points than any other English team.

I`d say Chimbo break, but I`m too selfish! spending time w/ love ones during Chimbo is overrated. FFP won`t help Arsenal so we need to manipulated another route to win the league. I say hire NK hackers to bankrupt Chels :P

Seriously though, it was a great performance. It could have turned sour if Markovic scored before us, but then again we had missed our clear chances with Ramsey too.

The killer instinct was there, even if for a brief moment in the end of the 1st half. And the pressure up the pitch is essential, it has to be our blueprint for victories from now on, as it makes all the difference. I think Wenger learned from that from Borussia Dortmund after so many CL encounters :)

Some people still say this Arsenal is less entertaining, well I don't really see it that way. I think today I got everything that I want to see from an Arsenal team, and it's been that way for many matches in a row (excluding the disastrous home game against Monaco).

Bellerín, apart from the penalty conceded, was exceptional. Poor Debuchy, who was unlucky with another injury, might find it hard to claim his place back after Hector's performances.
 
Great show really. Best team in the country on form.

But yet another year where Wenger can't quite paste two halves of a season together.
 
Ozil`s FK such brilliance . Although, Michael Owen says that Raheem Sterling is better than Mesut Özil & Danny Welbeck. I think we found Sterling`s publicist . I think Sterling is a cracking player tbh ,but Welbzk is just surrounded by better ppl going through.
 
Welbeck is looking very confident since that goal at Old Trafford imo. Was very sharp again yesterday when he came on. His speed is amazing.

Speed yes but that's pretty much his only great attribute. The goal at OT was a fluke more than anything, though Welbeck's speed allowed him to take advantage of the mistake in our passing. Nothing from what I've seen from him this season has me convinced this is another Welbeck from the one we saw at Utd, but he's probably one of those players I'll (continue to) give the benefit of the doubt until he's 28.

The fact that a local (Danny Welbzk) celebrated the winning goal vs Mutd a club he grew up playing. Is clearly a sign he felt unwanted and possibly humiliated by LVG submission of ' He's not good enough ' but Falcao is ?

LVG doesn't know Danny he just knew Falcao. Danny is at the right club and his 1st touch has improved. He kept Theo on the bench and the work rate is vital to the style of play. He hasn't score many goals , but look how Ramsey scoring flourish under Wenger. Arsenal Is the right place , because they don't depend on a 30 goal striker to lead. Everyone contributes and the time for Welbzk will come . He's actually at a place where the boss sees him as a starters \0/ .

I love Danny, and believe I posted on here when we sold him that I really genuinely hope he wins the league with Arsenal cause I've followed his career since he was a kid.

But if we're honest, he hasn't shown that he's going to get to the 'next level'. Think he has what, 5 league goals this year?

It's like when he was at United. World class until the final ball/shot. Which is useful in some positions, but not as a striker.

Maybe he'll turn a corner, but he's been playing for big clubs for 4 years now as a first team regular, and it hasn't happened yet.

It would only start to look like a real title race if Chelsea loses their game in hand and then Arsenal beats them at the Emirates. Then it would be a 4 point margin, and still a difficult task for Arsenal IMO.

For now, a good realistic target for us is to win the FA Cup and qualify directly for the CL. Not having that playoff and doing proper pre-season and transfer activity would be crucial to a great start of the next season.
 
It amazing what a few changes can do to a team
For me Coquelin has been amazing adds defensive security
Ospina too done very well he's there when he's needed
more experience and no blood rush to the head like Szczesny
and other players improving too like monreal and bellerin who has impressed recently

Sanchez always worked hard great control with the ball
Ozil has been improving too a bit tougher which is needed for the premier league
Giroud been playing well recently disapointed vs monaco but since then he has turned it around and hopefully which will lead to good things from now till end of season

Good match today 1-0 win vs Burnley
Ramsey with a decent goal well taken hopefully thats him back in proper form now
There is ofcourse theres still a very small chance for the title
fixtures wise its not too bad sunderland west brom swansea chelsea at home
hull & man utd away
but ofcourse would still take chelsea to drop points but this game coming up against chelsea is the most important one in recent years

i think chelsea has tougher games ahead and have been very lucky recently stoke keeper made that blunder some lucky decisions against hull and they barely won problem is at this stage its all about the 3 points but who knows even qpr tomorrow will be tough as their fighting to survive and a win would take them out of the bottom 3 leicester the exact same

I do think Arsenal should finish at least 2nd and retain the fa cup
i think that would be considered a successful season maybe not as much we would like but its still good progress and with certain players improving and have come back like Coquelin there's many positives for the future

Arsenal on a great run 8 straight wins and who knows what will happen if we win all remaining games left would either win the title or be very very close

I agree ,but the difference btw 2nd & 3rd is just next season added pressure. We are mentally stronger and the cry for a proper DM shows we need another one.

Coquelin shows what a defensive midfielder is meant to be
Also since Coquelin has returned we only lost 1 game in the premier league and 1 in the champions league that already shows a difference and how important hes been

A lot of people are critics but Arteta and Flamini in my opinion were good players but in their times for me honestly they're too slow and probably too old and past their times the odd game okay but not every week or even twice a week

its important to get another cdm hopefully in the summer because need 2 good ones to rotate and cover each other

i want to see more of gabriel paulista as i believe him and koscielny can be a really good as a pairing as center backs gabriel has been good he's strong but also quick hope to see more

mertersacker is good but he does have his moments of madness
but its vital that koscielny plays with him as he seems to know him well and covers his mistakes the games that mertersacker was playing but koscielny you do see how weak mertesacker can be

i do think we need 1 cb but who knows

goalie too ospina is an improvement but to do well in all competitions and epspecially in europe you need a world class keeper
but saying that and liked mentioned ospina is a huge improvement and hasnt made any bad mistakes yet and showed his experience today yet again he's a good solid keeper

striker wise giroud has had a great season considering he was out for 3 months hes scored a great amount of goals despite that but just sad he was way off his game the 3rd monaco goal at the emirates really cost us

welback is a good player works very hard but needs to find a more better finishing touch he had a decent chance today he needs to take them
hes a great worker but if he wants to be a striker he needs to finish

but need a striker who can score goals and build up play and even defend when needed and thats what giroud is

its hard to say who would we want there isnt that many strikers out there whos available but only time will tell during the summer for that

but main is to hope and see arsenal play well get wins and then see were we are at the end of the season

Rumour has it that Szczesny will leave in the summer. So will Theo.

I think even if Theo sorts out his contract renewal, he might be disposable for this Arsenal team. He is a luxury player the way I see it now. Doesn't show any of the grit we see from Alexis, doesn't have nowhere near the same work ethics of Welbeck and doesn't get involved not even nearly as much as Ox. Theo is the kind of player you don't use against tough opposition when you know your winger will have to track back a lot, and one you don't normally use when going away on a tough match.

So, do we really need some overpaid player to be used against mediocre teams in home matches?

As for Szcz, he never did himself any favours with that attitude of his. Everybody hopes players like him wise up and make a brilliant comeback, but I'm just not sure he would do it at Arsenal. He would firstly need an Ospina slip up to get his chance - something not one of us want to see. Then he would need Arsene to forgive him for his pathetic tantrums and antics. The smoking in the shower thing right after we lost because of 2 howlers from him is totally bonkers. The manager, even one with a disposition for forgiveness and a fondness for redemption stories such as Wenger, won't be forgetting that and chances are he doesn't want a daft wanker like that in his dressing room.
 
Rumours at the time were saying Sczcy was a goner in Wenger`s eye . I guess the rumours has legs now,as for Theo he can`t get in the starting XI . You know its stuff when Ramsey takes the Wings and your on the bench. I heard rumours of the Porto winger ,maybe its taking shape.
 
It's kind of ironic, but Arsenal finally seems to be on the clear after Wenger implemented what we all had been screaming for years.

The main criticisms were:

1) No proper DM: Flamini's surprise signing definitely helped a little, but he was undeniabely a player in decline. Arteta was never a DM in his career, and trying to replace a DM with a number 10 stationed deep was a terrible idea. It was ultimately injuries that forced Coquelin to be adapted into the XI.

2) Not a good-enough GK: Again, it was ultimately when Szcz's howlers and mistakes became totally unbearable that he was benched.

We cannot ignore the fact that it took Wenger way too much time to implement these simple improvements. The financial situation is a legitimate excuse for not buying stars, etc, but these are simple changes that he could have remedied day 1. It was solely on Wenger's inability to see or stubborness to address these issues.

At the end of it all, I do give him credit for finally implementing these, out of necessity or not. And nobody was expecting things to improve so drastically in such a short time, which speaks to the fact that Wenger had things running pretty well except a few glaring obvious issues. But the question is raised, did we suffer all those years for really no reason?

Those years of losing RVP, Cesc, Song, etc might not have hurt as much if Wenger had just listened to us and brought in an above-average DMF from a mid table team, i.e. Mohammed Diame, and an experienced GK, i.e. Begovic.

Szczesny will probably leave, He has never been able to be consistent and seems to go rough patches every year and I never feel security in the defence and then he makes huge mistakes that should never happen
When Ospina came in there's a big difference he hasn't made blunders I think everyone fans and even the players feel a bit more secure with Ospina in nets

Theo he did have quite a serious injury it can take time to recover but then even after you need to get match sharpness which is difficult because you need to play but at this stage of the season its risky because the games are very important
I hope Theo will play more maybe he'll play in the fa semi vs reading and then some sub appearances like put him on with 20 to 30 min to go he needs more of that but maybe difficult when games are tight theo has made some great runs in the matches he's been in but needs to get that sharpness on the final ball

I do hope he'll stay as Theo is great at his best and he will improve in my opinion, I think the media maybe a bit silly saying he's struggling to get into first team because other than what I mentioned but I think a fully fit and sharp theo walcott would get into the side maybe the odd time rotate but for sure would be more involved with the first team

But so far Coquelin is proving that he can be the proper dm for arsenal
and Ospina is doing pretty well too

Since Coquelin has come back we've only lost 1 game in the premiership and 1 game in the champions league, although I would like arsenal to get another dm but dont want to take away anything from Coquelin has he's been great

Ospina too has made some great saves not made any blunders and so far has a 90%+ game win record, For me Ospina isn't a world class keeper but still I think he's really good he's solid and consistent
plus the goal kicks OOOOOOOOOO OSPINA!

I do agree that Wenger took too long sorting out the issues as everyone has been saying and wanting arsenal to get a better dm and gk for ages, I think now we do have better

I personally prefer Ospina over Begovic and Coquelin over Diame
but they are good players and if arsenal could get someone like diame
even as backup to coquelin would be much better than arteta and flamini

no disrespect to flamini and arteta they were good players in their time but they are past their best once every so often or like backup number 3 maybe okay but not as the main dm or backup

ofcourse we can think what if we had ospina and coquelin earlier on
but maybe coquelin wasnt ready, from the start of the season i wanted ospina to be the main keeper but he was injured and took a while to get back saying that even when he did return he was only playing cup games and it took szczesny to make blunders vs southampton for ospina to get his chance and so far i think everyone can say ospina has taken his chance and is doing great

He will enter his final year and apparently his people said they'd wait until the season was over before discussing renewal details. Then Wenger said "Oh yeah? Then you can have a seat over there Theo, that bench needs warming". After Theo realised he has no guaranteed place in Arsenal's starting XI and will be getting 0 minutes if he drags this into a saga, apparently his people are finally back to the negotiations table with Wenger. So I've heard.

Whatever is really happening, Theo won't be holding Wenger to ransom anymore. He did it in 2013, played his hand well and became the club's best paid player. We had just lost Van Persie some 7 months before that, so they gave in to his demands.

Now if he's trying to do the same, I say good luck to him. Much has changed with Arsenal since. We signed Özil and Sanchez and Welbeck... so Walcott should find it hard to claim a place in the first XI as it is, let alone if he drags contract talks. I'm thinking Wenger would sell him in a heart beat if the talks aren't productive or if he senses Theo's agents are too greedy.

I agree. I still feel a little sour about what Walcott did back then, talking about he wanted to play as the up-top striker...

Keeping him was definitely the right decision, because as you've said we had already lost a lot of our best players. However, in terms of footballing contribution, he's been pretty much plagued with injuries throughout the whole time.

He's had his moments of brilliance, and is now a decent option off the bench to vary the game approach, but I don't think he's the type of player we want week in and week out to be a starter.

Looking back on all the players who left us, which one's would you take back for a guaranteed spot in the Starting XI?

I reckon we don't really need any of them. I might take Song back if his attitude is not bad. They're all quality players, but it's hard to say that they're a definite step-up from who we have right now and that they would earn a XI position right now.
