According to a French Youtuber, Konami decided to change the rating system.

Players are now rated / 90 not / 99.

According ( his opinion this time) to him this decision was made to make PES players buy more the Featured Players on Creative Teams (again the online mode) this type of players will have more than 90

It is, more or less.

What's more likely, here – who is probably (and collectively) deluded?

Option A: fanboys who have gotten themselves emotionally attached/invested in the game, and who have collectively convinced themselves that a crap game isn't shit.

Option B: critical fans of the series who have looked at gameplay footage, played the game and its update themselves, checked update logs across platforms, and know Konami's history of hands-off gameplay maintenance.

I was firmly in camp B for the last few years and have no issues with being critical of the game. I have said what Konami have done with efootball being an all for one platform release was disgraceful and we should be angry so I'm no fanboy but I turned on the demo a couple of weeks back out of pure boredom and it had definitely improved, animations and game play wise.

I downloaded the initial release and it was pure trash but something has changed. I have the advantage of having taken a long break from it. The first release I played for a couple of days and though this is so bad that PES is officially dead and then having recently played again it was clear something had changed. My inital thoughts on replaying it were woah, there is potential here. There are still some game breaking details like turning speeds are way to slow, like 2 seconds in some cases, a bad case of button delay too and the passing can be unpredicatble and the ball physics are poor but other areas had improved, there were some moments of magic that happened.

Its far from a good game but there is something that can be built on.

Thats just my take on it, take it or leave. Also there is Option C: The overly negative who will crap on anything released and dismiss anyone who suggests otherwise.
 
I firmly believe a lot of people are just gamers and haven't played football on a higher level in real life. Which is okay. But then I think they should switch to Fifa.

I've now played around 600 games in eFootball and have over 1400h recorded on Steam for PES21.
I think eFootball trying to go full simulation is great and it's far more realistic than PES21. Never have I played a football game where I can execute everything I've learned as a defender in 5th league in Germany and absolutely destroy eFootball opponents with that knowledge. The twitch streamer CrzCross (played 3rd league Germany) confirms this and also states that people who have played high level football have a huge advantage in the game.

Few examples:
  • Holding back a striker from a bad pass from the opponent to let your keeper get it or to let it go outside the pitch without touching it at all
  • Anticipating turns from sprinting attackers by slowing down every time you are on the same height and going back to acceleration when he decides to sprint
  • Deciding when to go for a tackle and when to just contain with 1m distance to an opponent
  • The importance of standing in between opponent and goal
  • The importance of covering dangerous pass ways and leaving none-dangerous pass ways open on purpose - guiding the attacker to do what you want
These are just some examples that didn't play any or only a small role in PES21 defending and now make a huge difference.

I also don't fully understand people complaining about sprint abuse and defenders reacting too slow. If someone sprints full speed at you, you first need to match their speed before you can engage (except for a good-timed slide tackle) or you end up like these guys:



When I watch people play eFootball, this is exactly how they defend and then they complain that the game isn't defending for them is bad. Dude, when you suck at defending then it's not the game's fault...


Improvements that still need to be done: Pressing from AI or at least reacting when an opponent passes them 10cm away, full force shots, proper working match-up and harder physical defending tackles, positioning from midfield players when the opponent is between the defender line and the midfield line.

Of Corse that was most embarrassing trailer ever... even Shressi was better in anyway ! Apparently they hired people with more than one brain cell to find out what a ridiculous this video was. Or just the things they promise in it will never happen and just erase traces. Honestly, I don't remember exactly what was going on in the trailer, because my mind is clearly erasing bad memories.
 
Im i alone here? I Play 15 mins games top player. Had amazing moments, gameplay is free and far superior to PES 2021. Only the gfx....

How do you play 15 mins games? Are you on PC?? No you're not, the game play is better than PES IMO.

Okay but by what you've written here, you're not disputing the main point I'm making in what you're quoting there. To recall, people (on here, Twitter, Reddit, etc), predominantly fanboys (which is a slur you can take or leave – it's unrelated to the argument), have been claiming that Konami have secretly been updating the game and making it better. The more sober among us have said (here and elsewhere): no, there's literally been one update, and these claims about Konami secretly updating the game are based on nothing but a kind of placebo effect or wishful thinking. We can even check the update logs, and Konami are not going to be quiet about having improved what was by all accounts a PR disaster on release.

So with your reply essentially being "actually, I just played it and it's better than it was and I haven't played it since release!", you've not challenged my argument. There was one big update, which we all know about. The game is less buggy now. It doesn't mean Konami are slowly, stealthily updating the game like implausible benevolent caretakers of our beloved and dying franchise.

That's all.

I also don't believe there were any updates. But as a fact there was a time when they did in fact push small changes, e.g. game speed multiplier, via their live-update in older PES titles. You could read out the property in memory and see that it has changed compared to before. I am not sure which files the live-update was changing though - only thing that would make sense is option files or any files located in documents/konami/wepes.

In eFootball nothing like this has been reported though.

I never knew it was useful to be goal side in football or not dive into tackles, thank you for the incredible insights 👍. If only I had experienced 5th division German football because then I would know that the objective of football is to stop the other team getting near your goal. It's not like these are things that are taught to 8 year olds in primary school or anything. I've now understood clearly that the only reason people don't like the game is because they haven't played high level football like you and your elite streamer buddy, thanks for clearing things up.

I never claimed its been updated in secret though. The one big update in November may have been the improvements I'm feeling because I didn't play it at the time. So yes in that aspect the game has been improved. Also you seem fixated on update log numbers for proof. Konami can control them and can leave a log number the same if they wish so its not the best place to get proof.

Anyway today I played 6 games in a row to see if I still felt those improvements from a couple of weeks back. My thoughts on the game is that is both a very good game and bad game at the same time. Here are some example of what I mean.

The physicality aspect is great at times, you can really feel the weight of player tussles and tackles, its the best representation of the physical side of the game I have ever seen in a football title and the first to ever attempt it at this level. Then at other times the physical side goes missing, opposition passes seem to just go through some players, and its very frustrating.

At times the game is very free, good animations and passing then at other times it switches and feels on the rails. I had some great phases of play and then on one occasion i was trying to pass the ball out from the back, went from GK to CB and my CB turned so slowly the opposition striker was one me and I had to pass it and the pass didn't go in the direction I pressed and they got an easy goal, again very frustrating.

The game is very jekyll and hyde but if Konami pull the finger out there is potentail for a great football sim there, maybe one of the best sims ever. One thing I'm sure of is that all hope is not lost, the games is not a total piece of unplayable trash. Whether Konami can or want to rescue it I don't know but I've got my fingers crossed that they do.

In fact every single youtube video, every single twitch streamer I've watched (except for this one), and every single opponent I've faced did NOT play like this.
So good on you for knowing how to play eFootball.

I know, but you jumped into a specific conversation/argument and quoted my post to make your point. My whole option A or B thing was about comparing two viewpoints concerning whether or not the game had been secretly updated. So your reply and your saying "I was in camp B, but now I'm not" etc., just muddied waters, and I pointed that out.

I think it's rather unlikely Konami are pushing gameplay improvements and not even giving vague mentions of it in update logs as has pretty much always been their practice. Do you have a better standard of proof?

As for this, I find it a bit off. People should be more specific when they say "sim" – lots of things can be simulated (to the detriment of others). The last 4-5 PES games have often simulated on-ball football aspects (and only some of them) pretty well, but while near completely neglecting other aspects: e.g. realistic team shapes, tactical approaches of real teams, tactical adaptations teams make to deal with different scenarios, player individuality, and so on. I don't see in those latter cases that eFootball shows any more promise – in fact, so far it's showing less. So to claim it might become "one of the best sims ever" is surely only to work with a very, very narrow subset of aspects you think are good to simulate.

Not so good answer. There are forum posters who will tell you anything, swear by anything. Gaming involves plenty of cognitive biases and superstitions. I've encountered more of that sort of thinking in relation to PES and FIFA than any other game.

Not so good answer. There are forum posters who will tell you anything, swear by anything. Gaming involves plenty of cognitive biases and superstitions. I've encountered more of that sort of thinking in relation to PES and FIFA than any other game.

You keep asking for proof and telling others they are fanboys or placebos effect in place. Where is your proof is not happening?

Have you got any proof that these claims are false? You say its unlikely that Konami are pushing updates with server maintenance. So its just your opinion and you have no proof, not so good, but then you also say "not even giving vague mentions of it in update logs as has pretty much always been their practice" contradicting yourself completely.
