They have been open about the change from PES to eFootball being all about crossplay and "simplifying" development from day one. If you have crossplay, you have to have a game that an average spec, majority-owned mobile phone can run. All the Xbox Series X and any $2000 PC out there can do "extra" is some nicer graphics, unless they make 2-3 different code bases (and make 2-3 communities to keep happy in the process), and the entire point of this switch is so that they don't have to do that. They have downsized the game dev team. All of this is because of the mobile focus.[...] Nevermind that the Mobile Port is not even out right now. Still people try to put every problem the game has on the Mobile Port. Which for me is kinda the wrong argument.
If that's not enough, and the reports that they are moving away from expensive game development isn't enough, just look at what they have done this to all their other franchises. Why spend time and money to make AAA console releases that don't sell because you've got no licenses, when you can give away a free game that hooks you and encourages even the most ardent of us to spend money.
Why sell a $60 game to 1m people when you can make it free, get 1bn downloads (actual figure from Konami, referring to PES), and make an average of $1 from all of them. That's a LOT more money. And Konami are a business, as much as we fantasise that they care about the quality of their product. They don't.
