I'm a Spurs fan and once i saw the team sheet i prayed for a result like this. Sherwood is clueless IMO.

And what you forget: Lloris should have been sent off after less than one minute for a foul on Ettoo, instead the ref gave a free kick to Spurs for off-side and Etoo was clearly onside. In the second half Sandro should have been sent off too with two yellow cards. This was a match where all the referee's decisions went Spurs' way.

Most Spurs fans seem to love both Sandro and Kaboul. Yesterday they both played once again abysmal.

The worst player on the pitch was Dawson though. If Spurs ever want to compete the first thing they have to do if replace him. The thing you mentioned about how Eto'o was wrongly ruled off-side was his fault in the first place. He lost posession and tried to make up for his mistake by bombarding forward and trying to win the ball, leaving his man (Eto'o) completely open. He was lucky the assistent failed otherwise Chelsea would've killed the game off after one minute of play.
 
He was possibly their best player as well, playing some lovely passes around.
Sums Spurs up really. Can look decent and then suddenly become suicidal

Dawson is terrible. Put Chiriches in there alongside Vertonghen and buy some good full-backs and Spurs should have a solid back five.
 
That is one of my main points of criticism towards Sherwood: he insists on playing Dawson.

About the match. In the first half Spurs were the better team (but should have had Lloris sent off), but when Vertonghen made his mistake, Chelsea were dominating and deserved a goal.

Sherwood made an odd team choice yesterday, quite a lot of the players he fielded saturday are not good enough IMO.
 
Spurs are an interesting case study tbh. I know net transfer spend wise it was a good year (Bale covered the summer, give or take a million) but the wage bill must have shot up - and that must have been based on making the CL.

Now that looks almost completely out of the question, but Spurs have a ton of new players that still need to be paid. I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot moved on after just a season - which is bad business in almost anyone's book.
 
This season was an excellent season to break into the top 4 (one could predict Man Utd having a bad season) and Spurs gamblmed, but Liverpool won...

And to be fair and honest: Liverpool deserve to be up there, they play great football. Spurs's football is dire and without inspiration...they don't deserve to play CL football...
 
The results and salvaging points! Is the main outcome. Chelsea don't play the best , but are grinding out what matters results . Spurs are getting better results then Southampton :(
 
Chelsea are great defensive: 4 goals since december.
On top of that they have Eden Hazard who is becoming one of the few EPL players who can open up defenses...
Despite the brilliance of Ramsey at the beginning of the season, to me the best individual players in the EPL are Suarez, Agüero and Hazard.

Of those 3 clubs Chelsea is the only one with a solid defense.
 
But of course, they'd end up banning someone who didn't dive or deserve a ban, like the Eduardo fiasco a few years back.

Unless it was playacting of the highest order like Gilardino against Celtic, they'll always be that grey area.
 
Another awful game-changing decision this season in the premier league. Twice it's happened to Spurs too - both times the cards have been rescinded.

The sport is broken. Chelsea and City get penalties and to play against 10 men - essentially handing them victories - and then the FA acknowledge the ref screwed up.

The refs are deciding matches, and they're doing so incorrectly.

No other world sport is so stubbornly backwards as football, it's just really depressing.
 
Mistakes are made with tackles and violent conduct as well but we still think it right to act on them anyway.

1 match ban imo. Think of it as a 2nd 'yellow' by the FA. I don't think we'll ever see a red card for diving because it's reliant upon the ref being in the perfect position, which is all too often impossible. The FA can utilize repeated replays from various angles.
 
I can literally see no argument against this system for penalties:

If the ref thinks there might be a penalty, he blows play up. The 4th official then consults a tablet, watches a replay, and makes the best decision he/she can from multiple angles and slow motion. It would take 1 minute.

If it wasn't a foul, its a goal kick. If it was a foul, it's a penalty. If it's a dive, it's a yellow.

All done and dusted in 1 minute. No more mistakes, no more weird referee angles, no more over-exuberant linesmen from 45 yards away and so forth.

Well, clearly they should give Eto'o the ban that Kaboul was facing on account of his cheat, if there was any justice in the world. That would probably get rid of a lot of diving as well.
 
What blows my mind is about nobody seeming to care about Lamela. The club-record signing yet not a single person make any sort of noise abouy him not starting or even coming on. Imagine if he was Arsenal or United's record signing.
 
To my knowledge Lamela is still injured. But yes,he should play more often.

Your outrage is very selective.
Before the penalty there was a match changing error when the ref didn't sent off Lloris for his foul on Eto'o in the first minute...you guys tend to "forget" this...there would never have been a dive nor a penalty decision...that was the real match changer.

This kind of argument I dislike the most... Do you hypothetically blame the player who put the ball out of play for a corner for the goal which is conceded because of a defensive mistake after the corner is taken? Of course not.

The actions following a certain event/mistake should be judged separately imo. I'm not saying Lloris didn't deserve to be sent off in the beginning, but his staying on the pitch doesn't justify Eto'o's dive, for which he deserves punishment.

The sad thing is this often results in (and is just as bad as) a referee over-compensating a team by taking into consideration events that happened before that.

I merely tried to say that it wasn't the deciding factor of the match people here claim it to be. The Chelsea haters forget a blatant referee and linesman error which would have been a deciding one and also that by the time of the penalty Chelsea were already leaving and totally dominating the match.

This wending off and the one against City were IMO far from decisive. Spurs deservedly lost both matches.
 
It strikes me that you try to justify one mistake with another mistake as if two mistakes is better than one in some peculiar way. Let me just clarify this once and for all: This isn't mathematics, gerd, two negatives doesn't become positive.

I personally want to see as few mistakes by the officials as possible. Bottom line is that the ref was poor and he did impact the result. Spurs has been poor on so many occasions this season that they can't really blame the ref for anything, but as a neutral bystander I'd prefer to let the teams battle for the points in a much fairer way than PL has been this season and this match is just another example of the poor state of the officials in Premier League (and elsewhere) at the moment.

The ref in the Bayern v Arsenal in the 2nd leg CL clash was borderline pathetic as well. I'm not talking about the penalty situations, one of which he handled pretty well, but Bayern were over the top rough against Arsenal counter attempts and got off easy in many yellow card situations where Bayern deliberately fouled Arsenal to prevent counter attacks.

The sending off ? Apparently because the FA overruled the ref.

But to me it was crystal clear that Kaboul committed a foul. The ideal referee decision would have been: penalty for Chelsea, and yellow for both Kaboul and Eto'o (because yes Eto'o dived, but Kaboul did push him, anywhere else on the pitch this is a foul without discussion, in the 16 people tend to overlook it...well that is wrong).

My reaction was not about referee mistakes. On this forum there are lots of Chelsea haters. I'm not among them. Those people claim that the Spurs lost the match because of that decision. The only thing i wanted to state is that this is bullshit.

The ref had not his best match, but apart from the red card, all the wrong decisions he made went Spurs' way...
 
Kaboul touched him, I don't think it was anywhere close to being a push tho. Football is still a contact sport.

I don't like Chelsea for the 'football' they play and some of the pricks in their club (eg. Terry, Mourinho) but I don't think it makes my point (that all 4 goals were gifts) invalid.

I can see your point godot, i know you don't hate Chelsea, i was referring to beach who looses all perspective when he talks about Chelsea.

IMO Chelsea deserve to become champions. I would like Arsenal to win, but Chelsea deserve it. They have the most complete team.

Both Man City and Liverpool are very good to watch and play spectacular football, but their defense is awfull...

Chelsea have a very good GK, a very good defense, an splendid midfield, it's just their attackers that aren't that good as for example Suarez and Aguëro. But they have also a player whocan win matches on his own in Hazard. Eto'o is underestimated imo. He is not as fast as a couple of years ago, but his movement is still superb.

Oh and to a certain extend, every goal is a gift...
 
I didn't say word about Chelsea. I don't like them because they've set precedence for the ruination of club football by forcing teams to operate at huge losses, which is unsustainable in the long term.

I think Mourinho is an awful hypocrite whose ego should have relaxed as his hair went grey, but doesn't mean I don't respect him. He's the best manager in the world at the moment in terms of getting top-level results from top-level talent.

As to the incident itself, it was a mistake to give a red card. The FA agreed. I'm just in favor of a system where those mistakes would not happen.
 
The ref went against Barça in the 1st half. City didn't take advantage and corrected his mistake and for good measure send Zabeleta off ! Barça needed to win in their backyard. I heard the Coach Was in a room for 45min under a microscope in front of reporters.

And rightfully so. Finally Chelsea lost after one of their many lacklustre performances in 2014.

Both red cards were the right decisions and that slithery scumbag Mourinho deserves to be sent off almost every game which they're not winning - the constant moaning and trash talking to the ref had to come to an end.
