FIFA World Cup Brasil 2014

Speaking of unofficial songs, Waving Flag was awesome indeed, but I still remember Hips Don't Lie banging on the radio every day on 2006. Those were the days. Dat dude Wyclef Jean & Shakira

Marc Wilmots says that Januzaj has picked Belgium.

Apparently he did... that is a pity for Kosovo, but in a footballistic way, a very logical choice...he was formed as a football player here in Belgium.

Can't wait to see him play for our national team...i wonder if he will be a starter...that would mean that either Hazard or De Bruyne would get out of the team...De Bruyne is by far our most important player...as for Hazard...

Januzaj might be a fantastic impact player...

The future is looking bright, we got so many big talents: Januzaj, Charly Musonda junior (Chelsea), Bosschaerts (Man City), Schrijvers (Genk), Tielemans (Anderlecht) and others...our next team might even be stronger than the current one...

Not to mention the current players who can still play for years to come like Hazard, Courtois, De Bruyne, Mertens, Lukaku, Benteke, Batshuayi etc.

Very dissapoonted with his choice , i kind of knew that was comming but still it felt like he let us down... Well we have to move on idk what to wish to him atm coz it hurts , but in near future i'll wish him luck in belgium.

He might switch to Kosovo when/if you guys became full members of Fifa/Uefa. Altough he might felt more belgium than kosovar, since he lived there all his life.

I think he did the right thing: He grew up there and lived his life there. Why would he choose to play for another country? That's what I'll never get, same f.e. in Özil's case: Born in Germany, grown up in Germany and living in Germany, but when choosing to play for his home land he's labelled "traitor" by (at least some of) the Turks.

I fully understand your disappointment valon. A potential star is important for a new country like Kosovo....

I think it's up for the player, for his personal believes. And some communities have very strong ties with the "motherland". That's the case with the Turks in Germany. That's noticeable by the first name of the players. Normally emigrants tend to have the first name equal as most other people on that country. That's not the case with the German-Turks. The Haltintop brothers at the time when they chose to play for Turkey said that they felted like Turks living in Germany. They lived in a Turkish neighbourhood, spoke mostly Turkish (with friends and family), so I understand their decision.

But Özil is like a 3rd or 4th generation German-Turk so it's quite normal for him not to feel more Turkish than German, so to speak.

In the case of Özil, I can understand his choice. He is very talented and Germany is better than Turkey, so it is understandable. Özil is often on Turkish television and he said that he feels more Turkish than German, so it is just a smart choice in perpective of his career.

What I don't understand is the choice of players like Gökhan Inler, Derdiyok and the Yakin brothers.

Turkey could have a midfield with players like Mesut Özil, Arda Turan, Gündogan and Inler. Not bad.

I think is up for the player, really. It's a personal decision. They have every right to choose which country to represent.

Don't know the others, but Inler wasn't deemed good enough early in his career by the Turkish NT. I believe he was call-up at the youth levels, but never at the A team. So he decided to go for Switzerland. I remember that at the Euro 2008, when he was a young raising star and both NT were in Portugal group.

+1

europe is full of such an examples, especially from balkan area.

btw @gerd, i don't see why are you such impressed with de bruyne? he is good player, but not as good as you describe him. i watched him more than enough to say he is far, far behind hazard and others. also his form is decreasing recently.

so Belgium is

Courtois
Mignolet
Vermaelen
Alderweireld
Kompany
Vertonghen
Van Buyten
Fellaini
Chadli
Defour
Dembelé
Witsel
Nainggolan
De Bruyne
Bakkali
Hazard
Januzaj
Lukaku
Benteke
Mirallas
Mertens

:O
funny because i wasnt able to recognize during the years that all these top players are from Belgium

Madball: all the Belgian football pundits, writers and trainers agree: De Bruyne is been by far our most important player during the qualifiers.

As for Hazard: he isn't the player he is with Chelsea and Lille when he plays for our national team. During long spells both Mertens and Chadli were preferred to him and that was quite logical.

The factis that you need both Hazard and De Bruyne. Hazard is the one who dribbles and then can give an assist (but doesn't score enough). De Bruyne is the playmaker with the fantastic vision and the long pass.

Last year De Bruyne was in the Bundesliga team of the season as only player who did not play for Dortmund or Bayern...i think this does mean something.

IMO he never got a fair chance at Chelsea.

He started 2 matches in the EPL, the first 2: against Hull he was named MOTM, at Man United he wasn't that good...IMO that is a litle bit early to decide that he isn't worth a first team place...

Edit: if Man Utd would have bought De Bruyne instead of Fellaini, i'm prety sure they would have done considerably better...

Gerd, can De Bruyne play the CMF role? Didn't know that.
De Bruyne is very talented, but it didn't fit Mourinho's type of winger. His defence is really poor, and he is not a high energy player like Mou likes. He's the type of winger who likes to scan the field instead of going up immediately, like Hazard. That is not what Mourinho wants from his wingers. It was a case of a misfit, not lack of quality to play in a big club. How he is doing at Wolfburg this season?

Santana's parts are pretty cool, but it catches the World Cup spirit a lot better.
