Manchester United Thread

:P

Ferguson believes that United may need only two players to strengthen this summer. "I don't think that we need to rebuild at all – possibly two players, if possible. It depends of course. If a player came along that we felt met our criteria, I think we'd push the boat out and get him irrespective of how many players we had," the Scot said.

All Aboard the MUPPET TRAIN! :D

I think we'll get Strootman and Lewandowski. Which would be fabulous business, as long as we keep Nani.

Does anyone watch enough Eridevisie to comment on Strootman? He's always looked great for the Dutch national team, but that's my only frame of reference.

I don't really know much about Strootman at all so anyone whose seen him willing to chime in go right ahead.

I doubt it Gerd, he might be on the bench but it would disrespectful to Spurs and Chelsea if we start fielding the academy players. SAF will pick a solid team.

I worry about his size and whether he has the balance to be thrust into the first team but technique wise he is excellent for his age group.

With nothing to play for (we're not going to beat Chelsea's 95 points record) it would be nice to see a couple of the academy players given some first team experience.

Powell is another one who I'd like to see in there.

You have to remember its away also, I think you'd be better off introducing a talent like that at home, with the support behind him and so on.

SAF has been chasing him for over a year, he was possibly our main target last summer before Van Persie became realistic.

I thought it was common knowledge that Lewandowski was going to Bayern?

There was Agent rumours of a contract being signed by Lewandowski for Bayern but nothing more concrete. Even now there's still no confirmation of a transfer by Borussia Dortmund (unless I've missed something) they have only said they DON'T want to sell him and Gotze to Bayern.

I think you'll lose something if you replace Rooney with Lewandowski.

Rooney offers a link between midfield and attack. Lewandowski doesn't do that and RVP is inferior to Rooney in this regard.

Also, this obsession with changing Rooney makes no sense to me. He's a striker

Not impressed in the slightest by him.

Perhaps I've only seen him 5-6 times whenever I've bothered to watch PSV on ESPN but he's always looked distinctly average. Like a young Gareth Barry.

Don't understand why people are so up in arms over him.

Rooney can't play midfield, he takes about 5 minutes to find a long pass, and when he eventually decides to hit it he misses by about 633 yards..
but Rio was hilarious tekkers today.

Completely agree.

Did Januzaj end up playing ? I haven't seen a thing about that match, only know the result...

Nope he didn't. Though Nani did again for a change. Him leaving still seems likely but I hope he stays. Imho he is our one and only true 'flair player'. It makes us a bit more exciting to watch. We've been efficient this year yes, and some goals scored are easily some of the best of the season but our wear down/bore the opponent to death style of play isn't always fun for the spectator.

P.s. With Bale winning both PotY awards hope RvP gets near 30 PL goals and win the golden boot again by a large margin. He deserves some personal recognition.

And I agree Godo, not sure what we'd gain by getting Lewandowski if we'd lose Rooney. Love him or hate him, he is one of the most rounded players in the world. Unfortunately we never quite got Rooney and RvP to both fire on all cylinders at the same time. However, don't forget that we still have Kagawa, a player we are likely to see a lot more of next season.

So I gotta ask, what's the deal with Ferguson's selection against Chelsea? He left Rooney, Carrick, De Gea, Ferdinand, Nani out?

I thought he said he wanted to keep it honest for the other teams in the league with still something to play for? Just wondering...

It's all part of his masterplan to get Spurs to miss out on the CL places so he can get Bale.

Either that or he's getting a bit old and senile.

Don't forget that if De Gea was on today, he could've saved Mata's shot.

Ah well, Fergie tends to make bad decisions regarding the starting eleven and also not to forget the subs. Always does my head in, Ferguson. :CONF:

I think he's doing this for Mourinho.

That lineup subs and overall tactical setupt was a joke.

And Chelsea still barely managed to beat us :)

Well that was boring.

I was looking forward to that but if SAF has decided to just let us play out the season on auto-pilot I guess we might as well start speculating on transfers.

Topic 1.

Ronaldo then, thoughts? is he just using other clubs to get the most out his last big contract at Real or do some of you think he could be off and what are the chances SAF trying to bring him back?

I'd be shocked if he didn't return to us at some pt. Still..not sure that at 28 its worth the rumored 60 mil. 40 or so and I think its on. His commercial benefits would mean a quick return on investment I would think. I think that if he stays at real hell never win de ballon d'or while Messi is at Barca. Just the thought of Ronnie back in red gives me goosebumps. New new of the other teams transfers would matter if it happened. Still..whether its nani, cr7, or bale playing on that wing..we need to sign a big time midfielder.

And yes today's lineup and game was lackluster at best. Wonder if rvp could have scored brownie pts with gunner fans if he had sunk chelski

I'm not sure he's worth that much anymore either - not to mention his wages!

He'll lose something as he gets older - he has to - and he's finally started getting the odd injury. I also worry about his ego - if he comes back I fear he won't work hard 'defending from the front'.

But, he's still the second best player on the planet and loves our club. So I'd hardly say no.

Imagine getting bale and Ronaldo and getting them to play either side of Van Persie.....frightening!

Re: Fergie,

I think I heard him say he wanted to give other players who didn't play much recently more games, i.e. Ando, Cleverly, Lindegaard, etc. Possibly some of them reach 10 games to get the medal?

I heard the commentator of our game against Chelsea mention that the 10 game rule has been changed and players with only 5 games would get medals as well. :)

He's a freak beach, he'll be fine for another half decade. One thing I don't think you can criticize is his commitments on the pitch, he's a born winner.

I think the fee would probably be half of what we paid, 40M for someone with 1/2 years on a deal wanting out but I definitely think wages would be the sticking point.

I think the other thing is I don't see too many destinations for him either, PSG? would the french league be a big enough stage for him? Chelsea? I think other than us I see them as the most likely to tempt him and obviously United because of his connection with the club and most of all SAF.

No he would only leave for United, I agree with that. He's filthy rich already and I don't think he'd go to City/PSG/Chelsea.

But, I could see him staying at Madrid, cozying up with the new coach and becoming more captain like material.

And becoming a striker :)
