Manchester United Thread

He's not indispensable in the same way he was when he asked to leave in 2010 however he is still one of our top players.

If he genuinely want's a new start somewhere else (abroard!:P) I'd accept him moving on and thank him for the years of quality and this is all mainly down to the fact he hasn't been performing so Sir Alex benched him a few times which has hurt his ego.

Kagawa is brilliant Gerd, but I wouldn't be comfortable with him solely being the one to replace Rooney, if we were to sign someone in the mold of Bale then I wouldn't be surprised if we'd be an even better side.

I'm sorry...i understand you, but i'm a Spurs fan. Sometimes i think it wouldn't be bad if Bale went (abroad of course), we are too dependable of him...
 
I wud love to see the reaction to Rooney leaving and bringing in a trophy to his new club. Chelsea is the only club he wud be safe at in London. I m sure Evra will understand and back him like he wanted ppl to do for RVP :)

I think Van Persie's decision is more than vindicated, currently if he was at Arsenal the difference would be that you'd have 4th secured, without you might scrape through or might not.

he came here to join a Championship calibre team, and now he's a Champion too because of that decision :))

I'm still a massive Rooney supporters, and am genuinely saddened that he wants to leave.

A lot of United fans diminish his performance, but he remains our most important player. He's had a transitional year himself, having to play all over the park in a way that virtually no other player in the world could manage. Find me someone else that can play as an out and out, line-leading striker, in the hole, out wide and in central midfield at that level. He even defends well. He also averaged a goal or an assist almost every start.

If Rooney really wants to try something different, fair enough, but please make it something different. Moving to London is hardly that. Go to Real or Bayern or even Serie A. Don't go to Chelsea of all clubs.

Personally I hope that the Moyes comes in and not only convinces Rooney of his role in the team (which Fergie has f*cked about with) but also that if he dedicate himself he will go down as one of the best players ever to play for Manchester United and England. That should be worth more than a few more 10ks each week.

Didnt mean to come off bitter. I just hear a lot of noise from mutd supporters . I agree he went to get trophies and Rooney is leaving to enjoy.... football? Im just curious on ppls reaction ,not having a dig. I will in the future if things fail. You better watch out!!! :SMUG:

Rooney is feeling a little greedy and is leaving so as to spare others blushes for his grandmwdal collection? ;)

I believe he's just disenchanted with United now, 10 years is a long time for any one player to be at a club that isn't his own from the beginning.

I'm interested on what you'd think of Fabregas potentially joining United this summer (pure speculation) would he be just as bad as RvP ?

Fabregas joining Mutd wouldnt bother me in the least. The player these days are a contract in and out. If ,Cesc left Barça for Mutd :LOL: I say it wasnt for trophies!

Rooney has been in Manchester too long then(10yrs).Is that true his 3rd transfer request ffs! He needs Dan Dien to get him out of Vietnam then.

The whole Rooney being the 'heartbeat' of the team is a myth, he's really not and he's certainly not our most important player, that's either Carrick or Van Persie at this moment in time.

He's a great player and I would prefer him to stay and in all honesty I wouldn't be surprised if he does, this seems like him just having a tantrum more than real feelings to leave, not only that even if he does leave I think its down to his recent form that im not crying to see him stay, he's really not that important as long as we replace him and he's certainly replaceable at the moment IMO, I'd just rather he stay so we can reinforce on top of that.
 
He's Utd's best pplayer. His performances have suffered due to being thrown about all over the pitch but he still steppped upp to the pppplate when RVP had his feet on backwards.

From a footballing perspective, it'll be a mistake to sell him if there's a chance of keeping him
On the other hand, this is the 2nd time he's asked to leave and, from a fans perspective it's embarrassing and hard not to want him gone.

He tends to play as an outside forward, and sometimes (because we literally have don't have a single reserve striker) as the centre forward. I'd say he most similarly resembles an Iniesta-type player. Obviously not at that level, but he has great technique, decent vision and moves the ball on quickly. He also kind of glides.

He reminds me most of Ravel Morrison at youth level. Uh-oh.

thanks for the info buddy , I hope he really made it and be a great player , i always heart then we first join united was a big news over here for such a talented guy from Kosovo join them , and now i even read more about him so was curious to see how he's doing so far , just went on EPL site to see the table and found this acticle about

If he was our best player he wouldn't have been dropped for the biggest game of the season, he's a great player but other than the one season we made him the top guy in 2009/10 he's better suited as a sidekick.
 
His versatility in comparison to RVP and Ferguson's refusal to strengthen the midfield meant he ended up getting (semi-)sacrificed and his form suffered
 
I actually agree with Godo - Rooney's been dicked about a bit because of his ability to get on with it wherever he's played.

Then again, Fergie has shown a huge desire to dick around lots of people in terms of playing them in their 'best' position. Kagawa, Jones, Rooney, Welbeck, Anderson - none of those players are being played where they would 'naturally' like to.

It'll be very interesting to see what happens with a new manager. In theory, this is a perfectly good team, which we more or less never saw:

I just still can't agree Anderson playing there. He should be behind the striker imo.

I don't even know if Anderson himself remembers how to play that role. He's tried once or twice in the past few years from an attacking left position, and was terrible. His cross on Sunday was the best I've ever seen from him, can't think of a single other example.

Problem with him or even Kagawa in the hole is that it means we're light on goals up front. You can't only rely on RVP, and you can't play RVP/Kagawa/Hernandez together I don't think.

And perhaps more importantly, we still don't have the 2 in midfield that can protect the defense.

Last time I checked, we more than competed Beach. Kagawa in behind the striker can be productive, as productive as Rooney? No but I think he's definitely a better playmaker and if we could add someone outwide who could chip in with the goals then we'd be fine and possibly stronger.

The reason Rooney is shifted so much because he's not untouchable in one position, if he was do you think SAF would have moved him about as much.
 
I haven't seen us dominate a 'world class' team since our performance in the CL semi-final against Chelsea 2 seasons ago. Yes, we won the league, but I'd comfortably put our first XI behind: Bayern, Real, Barca, Chelsea and City.

We haven't 'played our way' against a big team in absolutely ages. We set up uber defensively against Madrid - the best team we faced this year - and look what happened when Dortmund actually attacked them. Against City we did win the Etihad but threw away a 2 goal lead. We looked poor every time we played Chelsea this year (and lost to them 4 times).

Our squad is great, and we were the best team in the league across 38 games. But for whatever reason we don't quite match up in terms of true quality in a first XI.

Fergie knew that, and it's why he recently tried to adjust our gameplan to the opponent, rather than just play our way.

I like Kagawa, and very much hope he makes the grade with United, but so far he hasn't looked capable of replacing the sheer productivity of Rooney. Goals and assists wise I mean.

The odds of RVP going another season virtually injury free also concerns me. And we know Rooney can fufill that role too.
 
I tend to agree with beach's last post. In all honesty, it is a mystery to me how United became champions (and deservedly so, let there be no doubt about that) with this first team (last year was an even bigger surprise that they competed till the last seconds).
If you look at both Chelsea's and Manchester City's first eleven: they appear much stronger than United first eleven.
The difference to me is that United has a more balanced team (certainly more balanced than Chelsea).
Van Persie ? He played a huge role, but i'm not certain if this team without RVP and with Chicharito wouldn't have done as good as now...IMO Chicharito is hugely underrated...if United don't need him more...let him come to Spurs.

I don't agree with Beach on Kagawa. Don't forget that players like Kagawa and also Hazard with Chelsea, are finishing their first season in England. IMO they can only get better. Kagawa can become a huge player.

And about Rooney: he obvious has fitness problems. He is a top player since he's 16 year old, i can understand that this takes his toll mentally. Maybe it would be good for him to play for another club, to have a new challenge... He's a great player and has always been a team player, if he wants to leave why not let him go for all hebrought to United, he was a huge player for you. Not everybody is like Giggs, Scholes and Neville who only knew one club...Some people like achange now and then...

A large factor was the fact they were the best team at finishing off the lesser teams in the Premier League. The only points they dropped to teams not in the top five were Everton (away defeat), Norwich (away defeat), Swansea (away draw), West Ham (away). Thats 10 points dropped, but even then Everton and Swansea are fairly decent teams anyway (both will be in Europe next season) so there is a case for saying it's only really 5 points dropped against "lesser" teams.

Compare that with City, who dropped points at Liverpool (H & A draws), Stoke (A draw), West Ham (A draw), Everton (H draw & A defeat), Sunderland (A defeat), QPR (A draw), Soton (A defeat), Swansea (A draw). That's 23 points, even if you take Everton, Liverpool and Swansea out you're still left with 12 dropped points.

Compared with Chelsea, who dropped points with QPR (A draw, H defeat), Swansea (A draw), Liverpool (H & A draws), W.B.A. (A defeat), Fulham (H draw), West Ham (A defeat), Soton (H draw & A defeat), Reading (A draw), Newcastle (A defeat). Making 29 points in total, if you take Liverpool and Swansea out it becomes 22 dropped points.


I saw a table of just the top five vs each other a few days ago in one of the papers. City and Chelsea were top on 14 points each (out of a possible 24). (I think City had a better goal diff than Chelsea. Then came United and Spurs with 11 points each (again I think United had a better gd than Spurs) and last were Arsenal with 5-6 points. Man Utd were able to grind out consistently good results against the average and not very good PL teams, which meant the fact they were only "on-par" in games against the other top 5 teams didn't hinder them in the end.
 
That is called consistency Edmundo...that is why United deserved to be champions. I also wonder how many times Chelsea lost points in the last 30 minutes of a match...i've seen them fairly regularly (perhaps most of all EPL teams) and they were quite often brilliant for 60 minutes but abysmal in the last 30 minutes...

Is that a realistic goal though? to 'dominate' teams that are 'World Class' seems a bit silly to me, We beat City, Chelsea, were in a commanding position against Real Madrid so we've clearly shown to be able to beat these sides

We weren't that defensive either IMO we just set the team up well, whilst saying that we could improve the team and that much is obvious with two players of real quality with central midfield and on the wing in mind.

I find it amusing how your still undermining how good we are when were 10 points clear and our Champions League run was cut short due to poor officiating.

We also never got a chance to see that team last season which is probably our strongest lineup.

many say he is overrated, but imo he was a fantastic player in his days... scoring many goals and providing amazing long passes... he will be remembered for long time.. he was also lucky to have good looks and that´s why people call him overrated, becouse media usually cared more about his looks and private life...but in all teams he was, he was also important player and part of the team...
 
Becks was a fantastic player, anyone who was lucky enough to watch him the year Real Madrid were behind barca at some point in the season then becks caught fire and lead them to the championship. Was amazing to watch.

I hope no one else decides to call it a day, I think we should appreciate Giggsy more next season now that there dropping like flies around him.

Beckham was pretty underrated at times in his career, I think he had a period were he lost his way during 2004 and 2005 but came back strong after that, especially in his last season for Real.

he was phenomenal during the treble season.
