Manchester United Thread

Ryan Giggs is one of the all-time greats in world football.
What a shame he never played a World Cup.
For players like him there should be a "rest of the world" team in every World Cup.
Giggs and Cantona are my all-time favoured United players.

I never really took to Beckham. He was a great player, there is no doubt about that, but somehow i feel he could have got much more outof his carreer trophywise...
 
His timing to join Real Madrid was off unfortunately for him and they went through a dry spell.

He's still won everything their is to win at club level.
 
He'll start to be dissapointed in Moyes soon enough when he starts defending some decision we get next year :P

He even helps keeping his brothers wife happy, what a nice guy!

Hadn't help if he'd been the incarnation of Pele, Magico Gonzales, Maradona and Messi in one, people like Giggs deserves to be pissed on publicly.

He gets paid to be a professional footballer,he has been an incredible professional.His private life is that, private.
We'll never see his like again.
 
Giggs never fulfilled his own potential. He's nowhere near being an all time great. His trophy haul is very impressive but his performances don't merit such high praise.
 
Manchester based think tank New Economy revealed they believe the Ferguson reign at Manchester United helped to boost the local economy by close to £1.3 BILLION now that's pretty impressive.
Through United's global success in the period he was there, and his success with winning trophies. The jobs created by the clubs growth and tourism in the local area.


Really nice achievement for him and United.
 
Rio close to signing a new deal, he'll be important to the new regime along with the other old guard.

Totally agree. It's pure coincidence that he was in teams that won the lot so many times.

He was carried imo.

I'l answer that in a couple of years...let's say something totally outrageous: Man Utd relegate...then there is a strong possiblity that i would support them...

There were two reasons why i stopped supporting them:

1. the same reason why Cantona stopped playing: over commercialisation;
2. because i kind of grew bored, Man Utd won everything...the fun was out of it.


The second reason is a weird one and might be interesting stuff for a shrink...but i love underdogs. Man Utd wasn't exactly an underdog.
 
The myth of loving a club for its success is such a stretch. I think it`s a certain feeling w/ a tad admonish you sense a bond with. Like a marriage you might divorce and break the commitment ,but a club won`t ever serve you papers :)

Wouldn't u rather support a team though that makes it money by running it like profit making machine rather than having loads of money poured on top of it by a sugar daddy?

The commercialization reason is actually a pro for me. They saw a demand, capitalized on it, and in the process created even more demand. Perhaps it doesn't fit with the romance of old, I'll agree with you there, but you can't fault the club for making its money (mostly) fair and square.

He burst onto the scene and was brilliant for a number of years. Towards the latter part of his 20's however his performances dropped to the point where he was being linked with the likes of Bolton.

He wasn't carried exactly but he's nowhere near being an all time great in terms of his individual performances over the course of his career. No amount of sarcasm can change that.
 
I can see why it makes sense for him, he doesn't have any real connection with the club and the fact were not underdogs isn't something that's appealing, especially when you consider were probably still 'top dogs' and will likely keep that status for a while, Blackburn, Arsenal, Chelsea and even City have won title's but we remain THE number one.

I hope Gerd doesn't support us anytime soon, it would likely coincide with us not winning very much and not expected too :P

hahaha, Scholes comes on for his last game ever and his first real involvement is a typical mistimed tackle. I'm gonna miss seeing that guy. :APPLAUD:

One Belgian (Lukaku) spoiling the introduction of another (Januzaj) today..Ferdinand on instead. There is no defense in this game. Perhaps we need to shop for a better 2nd goalie..Lindegaard has been pretty shit again.

Mental match. Lindegaard and Buttner were so bad it was almost comical. Worrying though, Lindy's conceded something like 10 goals in his last 3 matches for us!

Disappointed to let the boss down in his final game, but whatever, I had Lukaku in my fantasy team :)
 
Also a note for Hernandez - if we lose him I'd be far more gutted than if we lose Rooney. An average of 17 goals a season despite limited minutes, an outstanding attitude and his overall game is improving all the time. Only 24 as well.

Yeah I love the guy too. Just hope he improves his physicality a bit, that tremendous speed he has may not last forever. He doesn't have the strength of the Bales, Lukakus and RvPs of the world.

I have already given up on Buttner btw..yes he had a nice goal but he is absolutely horrid at defending. He seems like a nice dude and he apparently formed some great friendships with some of the team but..United material he is not, and I can't say I see that changing either, as much as I'd like it to be otherwise.

Lindegaard was shocking too..now that we've gone through an entire season it is pretty fair to say that De Gea is in an entirely different class. Almost seems odd to think back to the beginning of the season when SAF continued to rotate the both of em.

Btw..props to West Brom for honoring SAF. He seemed annoyed and strangely didn't seem to cheer for much of our goals however. Then, toward the end it was clear to me he was quite emotional. Felt like you could see the tears about to run free at any moment...BUT..it's Fergie, the man will not show weakness, even in the waning seconds of his last game as a coach.
Nice to see him show the extra appreciation for the traveling fans, and kudos to the fans for also chanting about Moyes already.

Had a busy Sunday and thought last weekend was the 'real' farewell so I wasn't to bothered, saw MOTD and what a crazy result!

It would have been perfect for a late winner to make it 6-5 but not a big deal, time to move on now and hopefully carry the club forward. :))

Nice, our U21 team just won the English division with a final win against Spurs. Really impressive from a very young team, especially as we lost Morrison, Pogba and Will Keane (out the whole year after tearing ACL in England U21 duties last summer) who were our standout performers in the last title winning team.

Typical United, down 2-0 at the half (deservedly, Spurs are excellent at this level) came back and won it in the 88th minute.

He should, really been a class above this year. Think he would have played yesterday if not for the implosion by our defence. Might have been a blessing as he bossed it a bit tonight.

Fear he might be loaned out though, Petrucci style.
 
For Rooney's sake I hope he stays in United or at least England. I can't see him being the same player or having success abroad to be honest.

Can't see him 'adapting' to new culture, league or language either. I'm willing to bet he'll be a flop at PSG in France or in Italy, Spain or Germany. This is a hugely talented and wonderful player who was MADE for England and very much that. And unlike David Beckham he doesn't have the sophistication, social skills or the professionalism to succeed in other countries.

I think he's making a huge mistake if he leaves Man Utd and if I were him I'd stay just where I am and become a club legend.
 
I don't think he has his eyes set abroad though Sina, I think there's a decent chance he's looking to go Chelsea. I think he'd do well there but I wouldn't want us to sell him domestically.

I said this a while ago, I wouldn't be shocked if he stays though, I think ultimately it could just be him having a hissy fit and once reassured by Moyes he'll come round.
