Manchester United Thread

I won't believe we've actually signed a midfielder until he's playing in the opening match against Wigan. I've waited too long.
 
Well, as they tend to say..no news is good news..or at least that's what I keep telling myself. I just refuse to believe we will not make at least one major signing, considering what the other perennial title contenders have been up to.
 
Well there is news in that we do know were currently trying to sort out this deal for Thiago but it seems to be dragging on a bit.

I don't, he must now he hasn't got a hope with Xavi, Iniesta and Fabregas always being ahead and fighting for minutes with guys like Song + newer La Masia talent coming through.

I think he wants to leave, its Barcelona just making things a little tougher.

Rene Meulensteen, the Manchester United first team coach, is expected to leave the club in the next 24 hours as David Moyes continues his overhaul of the back-room staff at Old Trafford.

Meulensteen, 49, has been offered the chance to remain at United to work with their youth academy in a role similar to that which he filled for five years between 2001 and 2006 but the Dutchman is almost certain to seek a new challenge elsewhere.

An unwise move in my book, Meulensteen has been an integral part of the backroom staff according to my Manc mates. It kind of defeats the idea that they're building a 'Boot Room' to rival our own.

I'm not surprised he wants to leave after the way the board treated him, the offer of working with the youth team was an after thought because they didn't want to pay him in fall in severance and he was 'fired' unofficially and didn't know what his future held.

Its sad to see him leaving he was one of the important back room staff imo, and losing him is ridiculous idea.. its the same in any business you lose experience and you lose that memory of the club the know how and working he does.

Than again, I oppose all Moyes does. I'm still not convinced.
 
Ridiculous. Moyes better have some serious talent coming in. Loads of players (including RVP) have extolled how great a coach Rene is.

Big loss.
 
I can see why they'd leave though. As Moyes, if you still had SAF's staff (as great as they are), you're always under SAF's shadow and any success will be given to the strong backbone of staff that SAF has built up. And any failure will be because the staff was too Fergie styled and wouldn't/couldn't adapt to Moyes' new play.

Well, at least that's one way of viewing it. I just hope that Moyes knew all about these before hand and has talented people to bring in. It'd be pretty awful if he just brings in whoever's available.

And Phil Neville apparently, I guess it would be good to see if the Fergie Factor was the only reason we have never finished outside the top 3 of the Premier League.. more so because at times our squad has never looked like competing with the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal (before) and City (now) I'm just saddened to see Meulensteen having no role now.
 
So we actually had a 12m bid for Baines rebuffed by Everton. I think he's a great player, but getting old already. Is Fabio done with? I always thought he was the better one, just unlucky as Evra was "captain" and always played...I think if you gave him the same time/chance as Rafael, they'd blossom to be the best pair of side-backs since the Nevilles...

Read your post and thought "Baines isn't that old is he?" didn't realise he's 29 this year! He'd better get a move on :LOL:
 
yeah, not sure Baines is worth that kind of money for us at the moment. We probably need a more long-term replacement for that position. Though in his position it's possible he has at least another 4 or 5 great years in him. I don't believe that we had a bid rejected, seems like pretty good money for a 29 year old. The tabloid press seems to come up with new rumors on a daily basis. I'm pretty sure that if Moyes and United are set on getting him ..that we will.
 
Yup, all it would take is for Baines to get unhappy that he isn't aloud to move clubs and hand in a transfer request. I think he'd be a decent signing. Evra was a bit better last season, Buttner isnt ready yet (should be loaned out) and Fabio basically wasted a season, better RB in my opinion anyway.

Hopefully more news on Thiago joining will happen soon
