Manchester United Thread

I want to think like that, but there's are just so few signs of progress. We played poor football last year, but had the drive to get us through. This year we play even worse football, and don't have the drive.

What drives United fans nuts is that these aren't terrible footballers, midfield aside. An attacking trio down the right of Rafael, Nani and a striker like RVP should be more than capable of some one touch passing to create chances. But they're not. They've no idea where each run is going, or who is supposed to come short/go long.

I don't think anyone is expecting Phil Jones, Tom Cleverley and Wilf Zaha to be burning through teams with intricate passing triangles, but is it too much to expect Shinji Kagawa, Robin van Persie and Nani to look like real footballers? Because those are 3 immensely talented individuals.

3 non set-piece goals in 9 matches at Old Trafford this season. Fluency.

But. Top of what could have been a tricky group. Credit where it's due, undefeated too.

I could be wrong and tomorrow will determine, but I think we can only face:

Zenit
Basel
Olympiacos
Juve
Milan/Ajax
Dortmund/Napoli
 
If Shakhtar had bought some Brazilians who knew how to shoot from threatening positions, that could've been a completely different result.

Much improved second half, anyway.

I wasn't referring to the goal specifically... the match was boring to watch. Luckily I had my eyes in a book for the most part and only watched with half an eye. I got oral exam tomorrow... my nerves are worn thin.

I wish the City match had been aired though, but then again I wouldn't had gotten much reading done then.

Yeah but you also said Fellaini was a good signing :P No I think irrelevant to what the media say I can't see us sacking him anyway.

We signed him to a long term deal and with backers such as Sir Alex and Sir Bobby he'll get the support from upstairs.
 
United can even afford a season or two outside CL, if they keep their heads cool I too think Moyes will be another legend for the club.

This is exactly why I said there is no doubt in my mind he'll be given time

Every fan needs to realise this though and focus on fully supporting the team. The over-analysing of Moyes's every single comment or his body language is not healthy, he has MASSIVE shoes to fill and the impact of that cannot be forgotten.

I didn't mean it in a negative way! just that he has that support from higher ups which isn't the case at teams like Chelsea and City were if the manager starts to wobble I can't see many fighting there corner wheras here I doubt the Glazers will act on there own and will have those two reassuring them to stay calm and patient.
 
Poor David Moyes is cursed.

Our two best and most important players last season will essentially both miss a third of this one, including the most hectic part of the year.

Eeesh.

Big opportunity for Hernandez. He hasn't scored in ages, but will get minutes now. Last chance for Kagawa too.

Gotta feel a littl ebit for Moyes. In matches when both Rooney and RVP have started, our record is actually really good. Unfortunately, looks like that ain't gonna happen very often.
 
It possibly calls into question Moyes' training methods. RvP was injury prone but played every league game in his last season at Arsenal and his first at Utd under Ferguson.
 
Possibly. We'll see how the squad fairs - one thing to give Moyes historically - he has excellent second halves to seasons. Almost always.
 
That is the good thing for United, usually Everton were just above relegation to end round the 5th place at the end of the season...
Who knows where United might end...

Yeah, if you look at wage spending, it's normally very indicative of where teams end up. Injuries and luck can move teams around a little bit, but wages is the single biggest determiner of league table finishing position.

And United spend the third highest wages in English football. Miles behind the top two, but pretty close to Liverpool and Arsenal. I'm not sure how much Tottenham have changed with all their new signings.

So United should be between 3rd and 5th, all things being equal.

Everton are a bit of a wild card because 3 crucial players (Barry, Lukaku and Delefeou) are all worth a lot more than Everton are paying for them. People would probably not be as impressed with Martinez if he'd invested 40m in the summer, which is essentially what Everton have managed to do.
 
I'm pretty confident that sponsors and shareholders alike will not accept mediocrity for long. We've been coasting for far too long. I'd like to think that some negativity is good for the club at the moment. Scouts need to step it up, dead weight needs to be dropped and wallets need to be opened. I'm enjoying the "I told you so" Gunners fans coming out of the woodwork in light of RvPs injuries this season. Hopefully they ll finally stop bitching about his transfer.
Agree though this will be a perfect chance for the likes of Chicha and Kagawa to show their worth. My only concern is that neither offers the physical presence RvP can throw at defenders.
 
@ beach that is interesting. Let's see towards the end how close, I know Arsenal's wage bill rose a bit.
@dplan . Wenger had RVP on a computer monitoring system and showed when he was risking injury and resting him on training n cup matches. He played, a whole season and a half injury free. I don't remember him suffering thigh injury. Anyhow , Arsenal fans seen too many of their players leaving to win trophies for other clubs. It's immature for anyone to be happy at a player being injured. I want him fit n losing matches :LOL:
 
Yep, the Giggs'es and Scholes'es of this generation are almost extinct, so we can only hope!
 
Just depressing watching the fluency of both Arsenal and City in attack. We're miles off them in terms of quality and confidence at the moment.

Definitely something to kick start the season. Wonder if Moyes already has things lined up for January, the best thing we could do is get someone in on the 2nd as a signal that he's serious.
 
Confidence is a big thing with that also IMO but yeah agreed. walk before you run, we need to start winning again before I consider 'how' were winning.
