Manchester United Thread

While I have been supportive of Moyes I think its getting a bit silly now, im not demanding winning the title or Champions League but the fact remains right now were way off the pace to finishing in the top four.

I agree this squad isn't the greatest but its certainly better than what we've seen this season, its definitely capable of finishing in the top 4, as champions the drop off is has just been too big and the buck has to stop with the manager.

Looking at his record against the top sides at Everton was worrying but I never thought we'd end up the same

Theres being patient and also being realistic, you can't just set standards lower and lower because we keep failing to meet them.

Completely agree with that, but nevertheless...
It's all in the perception.
United fans are comparing Moyes with the Ferguson of the success era, not with the one who needed three seasons to win silverware. Give Moyes the time and he might turn out to be better than Ferguson, as farfetched that may seem now...
Managers need time to build their own "team" (not necessary players, but a playing style, physical preparation team spirit, ...).
It's useless to ask of a successor to take over the predecessor's style (unless you do what Liverpool did in the 70's: promoting back staff personel to manager).If the successor of Wenger comes from outside the club, it will also take time to have success.
 
What a strange game, a beautiful goal from Swansea due to a major clusterfuckup by Rio.and the three players that I've questioned the most: Buttner, Kagawa and Chicha are playing all playing like their life depends on it. Especially Kagawa continues to confuse me: probably one of the best ball controlling abilities I've ever seen..right up there w RvP on our team,probably better.. yet...well we know why he s been doubted as much. Fletcher with a great showing too. Not bad so far for a mostly second choice team.

Not to defend a ref, but it looks like he was disappointed with his decision to play the advantage.

Looking at the top8 table, I hadn't realised how few away matches City had played! The fixtures have been really lopsided this season, I don't understand how half the league had back to back away or home matches at the toughest point of the season, nor that they don't have a fixture balance calculation based on the previous season so you don't end up with city and Liverpools run.

And yeah this season is far from decided though I fear it mostly is for us.

BTW: Bony s tree trunk legs > Rio s knee. Bony seems like a pretty nice dude too based on his response to that run in.

Swansea was absolutely shit the entire game..and Bony scores..I'm sorry but we deserve this heartbreak..though Flores should not be on the pitch either. Why Welbeck wasn't moved to CF is beyond me. Swansea to win for first time in history at OT. We re breaking all the wrong first records this season.

This Swansea performance has been the worst team I've ever seen win at Old Trafford, in almost 25 years of watching United week in week out.

Swansea looked like a pub team until Fabio got sent off. Way to cap off your United career son.

We're appalling at the moment. Smalling, Hernadez, Valencia and Kagawa look like amateur footballers. They're not that bad.

big mistake to appoint Moyes over Mourinho but lets cut our losses now and move on.
 
I dislike Warren Barton intensely, and he hates United, but he's right saying this is the worst United team in 25 years. This is shocking. We are absolutely woeful at the moment.

Swansea hadn't had a shot in the 2nd half, I'm not sure they'd had a shot since their goal. We were terrible, but how did we lose that? I've no idea.

Just awful. It's almost funny.

I want us to not be knee-jerk about this, but everyone always said whoever followed directly after Ferguson would fail. The only question now is how long we're going to allow him to fail.

Can we get someone in and let them sign some players? Something needs changing, and it needs changing right now.

Personally, I don't care as long as we don't get relegated. I'm sticking with Moyes for 2-3 years.

It took Ferguson a while before it all clicked.

I know not all managers are Fergusons, but I'm not into knee-jerk manager sacking reactions.

I'm guessing Rooney is on the phone w his agent right now and the little boy inside of RvP is crying. Strange to think we re still in the CL w on paper probably the best chance to progress out of all the group winners.

Lami, i know what you mean, but it isn´t 1986 anymore, the football is different and the fans are different now.. + the oponents United have are more than back then..

One year without success nowdays means huge losses..

To be honest, I think that might be the best example of Glazernomics kicking in. Compare that with the teams we're competing against - the City's, Chelsea's - even the Tottenhmas and Liverpools.

I don`t think you`ll find a single person who feels bad about MUTD failing. They been on the top for decades...nothing is won and surely things can turn around. I honestly didnt think I would see the day that Mutd became a average at best team.

Blame it on the glazers... Hoe many trophies have the glazers won again? Only when things go bad do you guys blame the glazers never when there hoisting the cl and epl trophies do you give them credit... I mean c'mon

That's utterly ridiculous. They took over one of the best squads in Europe, with the best/2nd best player in Europe developing into one of the most dominating forces in 20 years. Since then they've 'invested' about 1/7th of what City and Chelsea have spent, far less than Liverpool, Tottenham and even less than Stoke, Southampton and Aston f*cking Villa.

In that time, they have pocked about 550m pounds.

Every true United fan has disliked the Glazers since they took over. A combination of some genuine talent they inherited and SAF are the only reasons we continued to be any good, as is pretty blindingly obvious now.

It's really cute to see all the responses from tortured souls who love seeing Utd do bad. I'd rather beat a good team rather than feel ecstatic about the possibility of beating us currently but perhaps I'm just weird in thinking that beating a good opennent is worth way more than one that's not. Missing Godotelli stomping on our grave though.. But guess it was predictable he disappears when City don't win. :FAIL:

Anyhoo Gomito makes a valid point, though the Glazers weren't always in charge. Still, it's too easy to blame it on them considering how competitive we ve been all those years. I'm not upset or angry about doing worse this season.. I expected that like most. What is shocking though how far we seemingly tumbled in such a short period of time. If I had to guess, the worst thing about all this is that Old Trafford lost its immense and near mystical home court advantage. That bugs me more than anything.

It's hard to know though. To be fair to the Glaziers, what bad decisions have they made so far? There is talk of underinvestment, but Fergie never said they stopped him from spending. I don't think they could have kept Ronaldo as it seemed his head was turned by Real. I think their debt restructuring is a little strange, but I don't think their footballing decisions were that bad thus far.

Since the Glazer takeover in 2005, United have spent 133m net (transferleague.co.uk).

Since the first City buyout (Shinawatra) they've spent about 520m net on transfers, and since Abramovich came in he's spent about 585m net. So roughly 4.5/5x so I'm off a little.

Liverpool have spent 100m net just since Henry took over in 2010!

Anyway, your point is that Fergie never spoke out against them - which is fair - and one a lot of United fans have always been critical of. I'd imagine some very large pay checks helped that decision, as sad as it is.

I'm not sure where you get 140m on three players, we had Kagawa (18m) RVP (24m) and Fellaini (28m) - that's less than half your figure?
