Microsoft Flight Simulator [PC/Xbox]

Tried this on game pass after seeing the hype about it - bit disappointed tbh, not really interested in the gameplay but thought it would be nice to check out various cities and landmarks. Most of the game looks like arse unless you're in one of the photogrammetry areas. Maybe the natural scenery like mountain ranges would be more impressive, but I think the novelty of the visuals would wear off before too long.

This is apparently Old Trafford

DAMN  I wish I had the hardware to run this in a satisfactory way... Maybe one day, who knows...

Take (at least some?) comfort in knowing that it comes with having to make sacrifices, especially in VR and even more so when using a G2, no matter which hardware config you throw at this sim. But then again, I don't really care, I'm a sucker for VR, always have been and this is the most addictive piece of VR software I've ever laid hands on. It's blowing me away every single time I fly. And this is coming from someone who never cared about flight sims, like, at all.

Oh, totally man! I mean, if you stop and think about it, VR was practically TAYLOR MADE for flight games (being simulators or space shooters, or whatever)... Sure, it can be pretty cool for other genres like FPS shooters, or maybe people that crave for those jump scares in FPS survival horror games, like Resident Evil kind of stuff (NOT my kind of stuff), but for flight games... They become a total different gaming experience with VR, for sure.

everything where people sit in "cockpits" is taylor made for VR! you are stationary by default, but you are able to look around.
so a flight sim is perfect; for me personally that would be a racing sim!
as triple screen features are possibly never coming to a console, i have high hopes in PSVR2.0... all i want is to drive around with 16+ cars on the track, in GT7 or ACC or whatever, using my (future) racing wheel and pedales!

i'm currently dreaming... but not to long... ;)

edit: when its all set up and working, you should grab a bag of Mandelhörchen and stop by for a drive, @Tom ! mid hessen isnt far away for everyone living in germany! :D

I reinstalled this today to test out a few flight plans. Hadnt played in over six months. After setting up send getting the latest patch, big surprise the game now runs like dog sh$t. I remember being able to run it on medium pretty smooth at least 30fps. I usually fly in Miami -ft Lauderdale (not a lot of buildings).
Now on medium it was like watching a slide show 15-20 fps. Tried many settings and is still the same. Even on low it was crappy 24-30fps. What gives

Guess I'll have to wait for an update hopefully next month. Shame

This might help:-
World Update 4 apparently broke FPS performance for a lot of people.

Thanks... It didn't do much. I also tried the below one that gave me prob an increase of 5fps but still bad...
Weird thing is I tried Low end settings/Medium/High... No change at all. my fps is stuck in 15-20.
I guess Ill wait for an update or just the Series S version. Cant believe it ran much better at release vs now.

So last night, I got a code for 40% off code for Game Pass, so decided to try Flight Sim again.

I originally used the Nvidia default settings for my PC.
i9, 64GB Ram, RTX 3080.

The optimal settings for my PC, were as seen below.
Whilst playing on these settings, which is mainly 4K with a lot of settings on Low, my PC ran at an average of 56 FPS.

The next settings I tried, is to put it maxed out on Quality with everything set to be on fully Quality.

This was Flight Sim running on complete maxed out Ultra settings.
My PC, got a massive average FPS of 2.. That is how next gen this game could look.
2FPS with an i9 and an RTX 3080.

Is the sound in that video the sound of the plane, or the sound of your PC?

Cos I'm having flashbacks to my PS4 Pro...

The uploaded videos are now showing as working in 4K.
So if you look at them, although the 2nd one doesn't really work too good.

You can see a visual improvement in the aircraft lighting and ground textures.

Im mainly x-plane, however, I can't wait to see how this runs on xbox. Hopefully there will be the ability to use peripherals on it like the airbus Thrustmaster kit.

Keep in mind that this is with TWICE the render scaling of 4k which isn't really adding anything to the overall image quality other than making your rig explode :D

So after playing with the settings yesterday, I found that the game works @30FPS in 4K with the following settings:-
It only averaged around 34, with drops only happening when changing weather, which dropped to the high 20's for less than a second.

After messing around with the settings, I don't think the XSX will be far of the above video.
Yes some of the settings will have to be toned down, but I don't think it will be too much to make a massive difference.

I will say though, since turning it on again for the first time in months.. It really is an absolute truly next gen visual experience.
There isn't any games what really blow me away graphically these days, but this really does - It is an absolute thing of beauty.

Yeah, this game slipped off my radar for a few months but going back to it a few days ago, it still amazes me that we can actually fly over the entire planet with such levels of detail.

The various updates have helped make buildings more plausible - the British countryside is no longer scattered with farms hosting multi-storey tower blocks rather than 1 or 2 storey barns. I was amazed to see that a little house in a small village I used to live in was correctly captured as having a lower roof that the other houses in that village. Not sure if that's the photogrammetric data at work or some sort of DSM.

It's a beautiful and amazing product.

are you playing this mainly in 3rd person cam or is it just for the testing videos?!
the cockpits are so very well detailed... love that!

I haven't played the game too much properly to be honest..
It is much more just video game porn..

Normally I just fly the small planes around with a controller, but bought a Thrustmaster Joystick during prime day.
So will give it more of a proper go now, although won't do anything the hardcore guys do, just for fun still.

Alright. Got ya.

Wich Thrustmaster Joystick you got? I had an eye on that blue-ish Airbus stick, expandable later with the throttle device. The price is quite good.

But I’m not there yet. Still I’m looking to snatch a graphics cards for a reasonable price. ^^
had the idea to go XSX but with a PC I could also full fill my sim racing needs, wich is most important important to me right now (gaming wise)!

let me (us) know your experiences with FS2020 please, more videos are also welcome! :)

Thanks or the video, pretty jelly of your rig. I gave up on my quest to get it to work. Some update just messed up and i wont get steady framerate like at launch. Will wait to see if once they release xsx they optimize it a bit more on PC (maybe with direct x 12). For now I guess cross fingers for a somewhat detailed graphics in 1080p for the series s

As you said it is pretty cheap to start with and if you want to at a later date, buy the additional addons.

Even for Flight Sim, I would stick with a PC, there are so many mods currently being released.
I downloaded one last night which is overkill but 8.6GB of liveries, so will probably install a couple and delete the rest - Only really wanted BA.
