I've never tried that to be honest, but I think it will definitely be worth a try.
I am also very annoyed at the regen system but apparently they've always been OK with it to the extent that as far as I know it never really changed.
I've been through many "exotic" explanations to justify real life players coming back as youths when they retire. For example, Maldini retires > "Oh look, there's a new kid on the block. He is the son of Maldini's lesser known, older brother and he's very promising, much like his uncle" (as he'd be too young to be Paolo Maldini's son, given that if Maldini retired at 35 and came back as a 17 year old youth... Maldini would've been 18 at his birth. It could work for some players retiring at 39/40, but it definitely won't work for all the players).
But I've always found myself running out of credible excuses very quickly.
