Goof choices PLF. It seems like the Parker move will never happen though. That's the one I want after a CB.
 
Samba and Parker for me would be awesome!

Two proven EPL players. Two leaders. Two who will give their ALL for the team and have stronger will to win than the rest of Arsenal squad put together and neither that expensive due to circumstances!

You got OC, I don't personally have a problem with that and am not gonna criticize him for it like others. He's supposedly a very talented young man and for all we know could be the next Thierry Henry, but now go out there and do what is actually NECESSARY!! Get some leaders in!! Get some winners in this team! Then their attitude will rub off on others anyway!
 
Sky understands that midfield duo Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri have been included in Arsenal's UEFA Champions League squad for their play-off round tie with Udinese.

I agree with you Sina. Mertesacker, albeit not being the best CB in the World, would fit perfectly well in what Wenger is looking forward. Samba is my top seeded CB too but I would prefer to see him in North London. :P
 
I would prefer Jagielka, always have been a big fan of him. And Parker of course...

Edit: just read on L' Equipe website that Arsenal are after Ghana international Inkoom. He is one hell of a player...one of the best defenders in Europe last season.

I do agree with you, but this is somewhat false. How are Parker and Samba winners? have they won anything?

One of them got relegated and the other is fed up of fighting for relegation all of the time?

This is what I mean, although I agree with you, just because they have done reasonably well with their respective teams and stood out, they haven't done anything really and we are supposed to pay tens of millions for them?

Everyone is so desperate to get people signed that I don't think they are looking at the overall picture.

Parker and Samba are good players but that is it, they haven't been proven in any other situations, so I also agree with the how hesitant Wenger is in buying them for such extreme amount of money.

It does seem silly after paying so much for Alex a championship player, but I can understand that, especially for how long we have been after him.

I would prefer Mertsacker than the others I think.

I understand fans want people to be signed but I really don't think they are thinking rationally and I am glad somewhat that Arsenal aren't bowing to the pressure and making hasty decisions. I think it shows balls and in the end although the fans love the team, it doesn't necessarily mean they know how to run the team.

These balls though can easily come back and bight them on the arse (I don't know how balls can bite you on the arse, but hopefully you get my point :PP)

I am quite sure that we have the right people in place that know how to run a football club, just that with all of the changes over the last few years it hasn't been possible to reach the heights of previous seasons, but I think we can get there again and not to far away.

I don't know how Jonney can celebrate seeing Arsene Wenger leave like it is winning the champions league, surely you would need to see how well we do without him? otherwise you will just look like a fool if we do much much worse without him.

We need to start this season well and hopefully we do and can build on it.

If we have a shit start, then I can see our morale dropping and it could be devestating for us, so fragile at the moment, but I think we will get through it.
 
So Gibbs will be the starting left back for the season I presume? How do you guys rate him defensively and offensively?

C'mon now Bobby... are you being sarcastic?! Surely you understand that by winners I mean personality types not actual # of medals lol. These guys ARE 'winners' and they both HATE losing!

Guys like Wes Brown have more winner medals in their closet at home than most captains of other EPL clubs combined! Does that make him a bigger 'winner'? Literally yes... conceptually which is what I meant, no. (This isn't to take a dig at him by the way, I quite like Wes)

The fact that Parker and Samba both give 110% and are very competitive and great leaders is unquestionable fact. It's something we've all witnessed just like everyone has seen and knows Theo Walcott's very fast for example!

Why bring the whole relegation into it? Is it Samba's fault Blackburn were getting relegated or Parker's fault West Ham changed managers and lots of wholesale changes and team was $hit! NO! If anything, he singlehandedly almost kept them up! Same with Blackburn, 1 BIG reason they didn't end up going down after all last year was Christopher Samba.

Are fringe Man Utd players bigger winners than these 2 players?! Hell no! so it's not actuallly about # of winner medals, it's about personality, character, guts and leadership skills. And these two both have abundance of it! And so for me, they'd be great purchases that would massively improve the team, not some panic buy shit like you made it sound and they certainly don't cost hefty/massive fees like you made it sound either. Both would be relatively cheaper than most of their alternatives yet provide a lot of quality!
 
I dont rate Parker or Samba, sure they are experience and know their position . I don`t see them fit at Arsenal so it`s fair to say I don`t rate them for Arsenal. Ramsey/ Jack can take the position and knows the Wenger`s philosophy teaching old dog new trick might not shape the system.

Samba is a monster at the back although he can`t run backwards he`s a grab type , side to side defending. Wenger looks for that CB with a midfielder mentally able to dribble n pass ,scoring is a bonus. Squallice is a true CB who always run back hence why he doesn`t hold the line too well . Arsenal CB tends to run up not back leaving holes and keeping players onsides.

koc -n- squallice had their 1st season at one of the hardest leagues. They played too many games and partnering with different players. Wenger`s plan was to have Vermaelen ease them in show`em the ropes n whatnot instead djourou who has experience but not enough games under him. So in theory 3 of our CB had a crash coarse. I think they could be good back ups Sol/Silvestre replacement.

I think 1 CB to challenge Samba,Jagielka,Cahill or Mertsacker (bag of experience CL/NT £6m :WORSHIP: ) Bring Rodwell and Mata.
 
When I look at it...Arsenal just spend 12mil on a second division youngter when they could have well buy arda turan who just signing for athletico for that same fee...Im clueless about this club ambition really

Not sarcastic at all, when somebody uses the term winner I expect them to have played consistently in a successful team, that is what people are crying out for us to have. Players that have been there and done it.

We have won many games, but alot of our players have not won a trophy, everyone said how important it was to get the Carling cup last season as it would have given us that belief to go on. If we bring in more players that haven't won anything, then we just have the same sort of player. But it does go the other way, they will be more hungry to win stuff aswell.

Just because they played well for their respective teams, doesn't mean they will automatically play well for Arsenal a team playing in the champions league(hopefully we get past Udinese!) which both have never played in.

Parker is relatively cheap, but we have Ramsey and Wilshere that to me show the same qualities and I would rather them forge a partnership than bring in Parker to stifle that partnership blossoming early.

Both Parker and Samba are good players, but they haven't proved themselves as winners (myself and yours definition of a winner seem to be somewhat different) they do have fight and determination and a will to win, which would probably be good for us.

We are looking for players much better than we have got, to play in the champions league and to fight for the league, We need very good players, not just good players which I think they are, but obviously Samba has the potential to step up.

All I am saying is I can understand why Wenger is hesitant on these players as I don't think they are nobrainers like you do, there is alot more to take into consideration.

I hope we do get Samba or a defender though, so don't get me wrong, they will strengthen us. But I am just saying I can understand us being a bit hesitant.

well if we replace him with a crap manager of course we will do worse but i can think of loads of managers that will do a night and day job over wenger, frank rikard, jose morinho, martin o niell, schollachi etc etc.

Stop being afraid. Get with the times. If fergie went 6 seasons wiithout winning sweet FA. he would get sacked just like every other manager managing a top team.

Aint arsenal a top team anymore? probably not. maybe where comparable to udinese from italy and maybe to villareal from spain. If so, no wonder why your happy finishing 4.

Fair enough if we changed managers as a result of us becoming a team of "nearly" men but we have not. Wenger is the same manager who won two doubles.

maybe i was a bit out of order but it was a tounge on the cheek comment. nothing to do with his colour of his skin if thats what youu meant as im mixed race myself!! wouldnt make sense to slag off my own colour race lol but moving on, im just pissed wenger bought him instead of a world class CB.
 
That Wenger had more money jonney. Once Arsenal decided to build the new stadium, everybody knew that less money would go into the team...in the long term that was also the best solution. If Arsenal would not have build the new stadium, they would certainly had a more expensive (better? I'm not sure) team, but fiancially that would not have been a good thing in the long term. You simply can't accept that Wenger (and Arsenal) made the choice for long term policy.. And if Ferguson would have won nothing for 6 seasons, he would still be the manager of Man Utd, i'm pretty sure of that...
In the long term Arsenal has better (financial) prospects than Man Utd.
And from all the managers that you sum up maybe (maybe) only Mourinho is in the same league as Wenger (Rijkaard for instance, is one of the most overrated manager in the game).

Most of the managers you mentioned haven't won anything for many years (Apart from Mourinho), just like Wenger? so I am quite confused how you think they will do much better than Wenger? how are you so sure?

I'm afraid of change, because I have seen other clubs change and be worse off for it and I don't want us to be worse off. I know you think we are the shittest club in the world for some reason, but that just isn't true, we have alot going for us and we are not far from doing very well.

We are a top team because we qualify for the champs league every year and do well in it on a consistant basis. But no we are not Barcelona or Man United.

Lots of things have changed Jonney over the years, if you think we are in the position now because Wenger is a shit manager, then I think you have a very simplistic view on things.

M'Villa, Cahill, and Enrique and some randomer that Wenger is hearting for.

Imo, that would make a stronger, more balanced team.

If you also get £25m for Nasri, and £9m for Bendtner, then also get a real goalkeeper and an 'b option' striker. You could do worse than Crouch.

I`m happy with Szczesny yeah he`s young 21 ,but he has a full season under his belt. About Cesc! go and be a 2nd fettle desperate to take a pay cut 1m a year for 5 years. I say go n good riddance and thank you for your services n 1 FA cup !

Next Nasri, just like Ade 1 good season and he think he warrants a massive pay raise no worries. He obviously feel a little for Arsenal to snub Mutd and that I thank him. ManCity is a better choice, a club of revolving doors and wages like no others. The faster they leave the better we can get the season going mentally at least. Spend that change W E N G E R!
 
I think the Fabregas and Nasri moves can be very good for the club. It seems unescapable that they would eventually leave, so it is better to move on and prepare for the future rather than continue to hang in limbo. We just need to take the right moves and invest the fresh coming money in the right places.

Buy the defender (or two) that you've needed. Bring in the replacements for the players who left. By replacement I don't mean promising 17 year olds. It doesn't have to be world stars, but a player who has some european experience and has put himself on the radar.

I dont see how/why city is the better option..

I can sort of see what you are saying as neither of the players arsenal previously sold to city have done too well...

but even without them city finish above arsenal...

& win a trophy...

Arsenal selling the players hasnt exactly helped their cause regardless of the amount of cash received...

so after taking 3rd place, city buy another arsenal first team player with talk of yet another set to join....

4 first team players in less than 4 seasons, to the same club...

how/why is city the better option?
 
City will pay us more money, I think that is what it boils down to for me at the moment.

I woould like to see him abroad but if City give us 22-25mill they can have him. Will Ferguson pay that much for him, with a 1 season left to the end of the contract?

Have to say so dissapointed that we waited until now to sell them both (as it looks like they will both go) we have to get players in two weeks, with no preseason at all, very dissapointing, hopefully we get a couple of great players to soften the blow.

The worst thing though is the fixtures we have at the beginning of the season, we are going to be severely lacking for those which is worrying :((

season starts this weekend, window closes in 2 weeks, a £100 mill aint going to change that...

barca acting giddy like they have done the cesc deal...

surely 2 first team players aint gonna be going at this stage of pre season..

You never know, transfers happen every year up to the end of the transfer period.
