Arsenal Thread

Let's see what unfolds at the end of the season and after the FACup final. I don't see Arsenal at being so shite tbh. As a club we're in good standings after building the latest,2nd biggest stadium in the country. They're ranked in the top 10 riches football club in the world. The only thing lacking is trophies .... Everything apart from that is a perfect model in growth. You can tell Arsenal has change their transfer policy £42m ;). We lacked a top drawer finisher .

Arsenal were top of the league for 128 days . They lasted in the title longer than in the Last (3) seasons. Arsenal are not back peddling and they can take a look and know what they need to push to the next level. A f'n 30+ finisher! Spurs lack that special player that made something happen out of nothing. He left too 'gutted' for ya:)

As a fan I'm gutted that Arsenal doesn't finish higher towards the top. They are force to play more football and risking injuries in the process. It's part of the bad with the good . I support Arsenal either way and so I celebrate Emirates Cup / 4th spot trophy with pride. I take what lil I can get!
 
If people really look at the circumstances then Arsenal arent as much as a laughing stock.

We havent won the league aginst two of the richest clubs in Football with unlimited wealth and one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Coming 4th behind these 3, building the stadium we have and not able to spend the money for years, i dont think here is much to laugh about?

Spurs on the other hand, they have spent over 100million more than us since the prem began have won sooo much less, have the same stadium with a load of managers.

If Arsenal are a laughing stock Spurs are on a whole different level.

But i honestly think if Spurs can get the right manager in and can get the best out of he players they have, they can do very well next season.

Arsenal's entire plan is predicated on the assumption that one day, soon, the sugar daddy clubs will want to stop losing money every year. At that stage, Arsenal are in great shape, because they've built excellent infrastructure, financial stability and superb operations.

But.

Nothing I've seen suggests that will happen. With Platini (presumably while sending a wink at his son) confirming no clubs will be banned from UEFA competitions due to FFP uncompliance, there really is no incentive. People like Mansour/Abramovich will literally make enough in a single day to buy a 30m player. Who cares if it doesn't work out? What does it matter?

Unfortunately the whole Arsenal model has been built to be a huge success operating in a real business world. But football doesn't exist in one.

That said, I'd wager things will be more even next year. Liverpool had huge losses this year, and Spurs won't be able to spend 100m again.
 
Arsenal has a great model and are set to the future, even if the sugar daddy clubs will be able to spend like there's no tomorrow. For me, the problem lays with a bit of "gentleman" attitude. They shouldn't let players go to rivals. Period. If a player comes to Arsenal you have to give a long contract (5 years), and after two or three years if they are stars and don't want to renew their contracts and want to go to the City's of the world they will be sent to reverses and don't play at all. Not a single minute. Let's see if they are prepared to spend two years like that! That's what happened in Portugal, with great effect. Only the threat and the knowledge of that possibility put their agents in place. I know that's not a noble thing to do, and it's not correct, but in the world when you are competing with teams that loses 100 million every year and they don't even care, you have to have a son of a bitch mentality.
 
As long as City and Chelsea get away with things laughing on the face of Financial Fair Play, there's no hope that football will connect in the slightest with the real world again.
From one side we have 'Moaninho' complaining that he doesn't have strikers (except for a £50m striker, a legendary striker called Eto'o and a 3rd option that Arsenal tried to sign and would love to have in their books), while they have the luxury of loaning out Romelu Lukaku to Everton, and having a ton of players acquired by that dubious partnership with Jorge Mendes loaned out at clubs all over Europe.
With all that, the Hypocrite One has the cheek to call for FFP, saying they can't compete with Sheik Mansour - yeah, the same fella who benefited from a sugar daddy assembled squad in 2005 and 2006 and still has one of the biggest budgets in the world.

On the other hand, we have City, who can circumvent FFP by having their owner's half brother sponsor the club and sign staggering deals of £400m for 10 years. When all this is deemed legit, what else can you do?

From this point of view, considering the financial constraints of builing the new stadium and the unexpected hurdles of having billionaires play football manager in real life, Wenger has been nothing short of spectacular.

My main gripe with him is how he looks tactically naive in recent years. If only he would make his team more balanced and just acknowledge when Arsenal isn't looking as strong as some main rivals and just approach those games more carefully. And especially, be more tactically dynamic, less predictable. That's the main thing, and come to think of it, it's easier to fix than any financial obstacle.

Spurs got 100m from Bale and they could have done so much with it... I thought for a moment they'd be better off selling him and taking that money to reinvest in the squad, that no man alone is worth that sum. But they went on and actually made it look like they would be better with Bale and 100m euros lighter in their bank!
When their manager brings on board the likes of Soldado for nearly £30m, and a bunch of uninspired signings, no wonder it looks like all that money has turned into dust.

We just have to look at that and thank God for Wenger.

I said, WE ARE BOTH a laughing stock. Neither of us win trophies yet we're "huge clubs".

Even Liverpool win trophies when they are crap, just look at 2005 and 2010 for evidence of this.

I am not a deluded Spurs fan - I am sick and tired of us for underachieving. But if you dont think Arsenal aren't a laughing stock, I've got news for you - you are.

Sadly, that is true.
As a Spurs fan (but not a real one of course) i think that is a shame...as long as some people look more at Arsenal than at Spurs, Spurs will never have the biggest possible result.

I could live with the fact that Arsenal would win the next 10 EPL's and that Spurs would be second 10 years in a row...i prefer that to what happens this season or to Spurs being 5th and Arsenal 6th.

If you actually look at the Etihad deal you'll find it isn't really "staggering" at all.

I feel you. I think somewhere down the line the average Spurs fan became bitter of Arsenal success on the 1990/early 2000's. Still remember some (English, proper ones :P) Spurs fans in Portugal in the summer watching EPL early season games. They were a big club fans but with that "small team spirit” (always singing that Ardilles song - that I later find out the meaning of it). Now they seem more concern with Arsenal losing than actually winning something themselves.

A thing that I do not understand is for a club like Spurs they should really heavily on Cups and Europa league, you know, to get some trophies, to get prestige. Instead all they care is get to the champions to get "champions money". For what? Are you seriously thinking that one season on CL will make you more of a title contender that you are already?

Btw, the way that some English clubs and media treat Europa League is appalling. Just because the money isn't that great (compared to the EPL and CL) that doesn't not mean isn't a serious competition and that you shouldn't fight for.

Did you notice the quotation marks around the word "huge"? It's because I don't AGREE with people claiming that Arsenal and ourselves being huge clubs - we're not anymore.

Arsenal are bigger than us, but not huge.

There are 6 huge clubs in Europe:

AC Milan, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool, Man Utd, Bayern Munich

Big clubs:

Chelsea, Arsenal, Roma, Atletico, Juventus, Valencia etc

Medium size clubs trying to become massive clubs:

Man City, PSG, Spurs etc

Trying to be big clubs should be spurs and QPR, City and PSG are already big

Oh Lordy that's dreadful.

Anyway, delighted to see that Southampton gave us a huge boost today. Now beat Newcastle at the Emirates and we're 4 points ahead.
Should be enough to take some pressure off our players shoulders, while still keeping a bit of edge, in the knowledge that the job isn't done.

This should keep everyone in check for the FA Cup final.

On another note, looks like Bac is really leaving. We need to get his replacement right. Allowing Jenkinson to step up unchallenged would be a mistake IMO. We should go for a seasoned RB, under 30. Maybe Debuchy? Or we could try to snatch that Everton right back, should things stand as they are in the top 4?

And we have more fans FACT! You can't even fill your stadium when going for a league title!

I can guarantee you that WHL would be ROCKING if we were going for a league title with just a few games left.

And what's this myth - more Manchester City fans in Manchester?! Every time I've been to Manc there have been far more red shirts around the city.

A german company did research into worldwide fanbases a few years ago. We had nearly 100% more.
And you don't even fill a 35k stadium. We were getting close to that in the 3rd tier. I don't need to go on. You're obsessed with City. Spurs hardly ever cross my mind tbh

Not obssessed with City at all. I hate the oil clubs I guess, so don't feel alone. The money is ruining football, Roman Abfab started it and you, PSG, Monaco are carrying it on.

I also don't think City have that many fans compared to the big clubs with history i.e. Liverpool, Man Utd, Bayern etc etc. You get my drift.

You must admit that you're obssessed with Man Utd though - you post more in that thread than any other. And most Utd fans I know don't care about City and are hoping they win the league!

That must hurt! :D

You seem a nice chap though, for a Bertie. So I don't want to keep arguing with you.
 
Game felt more like a testimonial ... 3pts more whoop! \0/. A win on Saturday it's good as over .then put the reserves to play Norwich!
 
I could genuinely see a situation where Liverpool and City go into the last day level on points, but LFC have a -10 worse goal difference. But Newcastle are so bad, they concede 20.
