EA SPORTS FC 27

Shame pre-season is getting no love at all. Huge part of modern football and they get it so fundamentally wrong, outside of maybe top 6 EPL teams no other club does an international tournament, certainly not Champ/EFL teams, such a joke.

On the one hand it was nice to hear that players don't sit in the free transfer pool forever, if they've been in there for a couple of years they'll retire, why not implement that more accurately and have free transfers randomly pop up on trial at different clubs in pre-season as is completely normal and standard, maybe even have an agent pop up asking you to take their player on trial for your pre-season? Could be fun.

Good to hear that the value for out of form, out of favour players no longer simply reflects OVR/Potential so that's something, not a big thing though.

people began to complain again like before every single fifa/fc release...
Nobody forces you to be here ;)

I thought fc 26's cloth physics was bad. The cloth bouncing is completely gone here. i guess when PS6 will release they will bring back the cloth physics for 1 game and call it a new feature and then downgrade it again until PS7?

I'm leaving here the pre-release criticisms that these people, who are now criticizing FC27 before it's even out, made about FIFA 17 ten years ago, before it came out.

you can read people's harsh criticisms of FIFA 17, which some consider the greatest FC/FIFA game of all time for social media and community, in the FIFA 17 discussion thread >

As far as I can remember, there have always been exaggerated expectations surrounding football games at release (no idea if it extends to other sports, I guess it does?). If you go dig far enough, you'll probably find something similar even for something like classic ps2 Pes. In fact, I personally think that most of the times the more objective judgements on the value of a football game comes a year later of solid play or even (much) more.

That said, it doesn't mean there aren't solid reasons to be skeptic towards the new FC. The saga has been in a very specific state since 6/7 years and people here are making solid arguments about what is it that they don't like. I'm afraid it just can't be all abscribed to prejudice.

It's cool that some non creator people could access to the beta to bring a real feedback.
We are not paid so we are free.
We are customers and love football.

I understand the hype beside FIFA 17. The young generation hasn't played it.
But yes, it was not perfect but actual games have far more issues, and big ones!!

It's sad to said I'm happy to have fouls in 2026 or a training section with 11 vs11.
It's a basic. They delete many features that they didn't

I hope legends like Paul V, Anth James, Matt10 and of course Chris could have an access to the beta.
We know that we can trust you and thanks for all you have done for us, for the offline community since decades!👏

Just to make the point that the criticism of gameplay (using "Authentic" clips) and how far from football it is, isn't limited to this admittedly niche corner of the internet - see "spoiler" below.

I can't pretend the language of the top posts isn't "toxic" - but that itself clearly comes from a place of "what is even the point of trying to talk about this stuff, when EA clearly don't give a shit about it". I'm in a similar place of frustration right now.

I've looked out for posts that make the reasoning for the dismay clear too (i.e. the physically impossible).

I share these in the hope that one day, EA will care enough to help (maybe we need TRACAB first, but they've had a year to work on this stuff and there is a team working on Authentic).

It doesn't seem like there's much point feeding this back in the beta either.

The "bag of sand" comment about the ball is so true... It doesn't make any calculation based on contact, it simply "selects" the weight / speed / trajectory it needs to reach a player. I could cry.

EDIT: To be clear, Career Mode itself sounds absolutely brilliant. But if you build a brilliant racetrack, and give us a wrecked Vauxhall Corsa to drive around it, it's not going to be much fun.

Translation: "Guys, what is this..."

Translation: "NHL looks really good - when are they adding the sticks?"

Translation: "Who can strike that pose without falling to the floor?"

Translation: "Gameplay in EAFC 27 is rotten. It's bizarre that they don't fix this player skating, this sliding movement of theirs is just ridiculous ffs."

Translation: "Look at this horrible FC mechanic. Man, it just doesn't cut it, EA doesn't give a damn about the game. They just wanna milk the UT players and throw in new animations / open world to give it a whiff of novelty."

Translation: "The new Score Hero [mobile game]."

Translation: "Realistic Player movement my balls. The player turns while sitting and does it skating 67 times in the process [...] I hate you Konami, you condemned us to this for life."

It would be great to understand who from EA looks after the motion and animation system, because surely they can't be pleased with how it's looking. It's clear the gameplay vision is winning out, based on them continuously speaking about responsiveness vs visual authenticity, but surely they can see how poor the result is.

They also created this new tech which recreated real life goals, where they showed a goal in real life in their engine. I wonder if that will ever get implemented, because it's night and day in comparison.

On a separate note. The beta comes with a hefty "you better not be sharing footage of this" disclaimer, yet all these twitter posts exist. What is the score with this shit? They've done it for years too.

I hope legends like Paul V, Anth James, Matt10 and of course Chris could have an access to the beta.
I appreciate being called a legend mate. Thanks. Also, yes I got my email in the early hours of the morning.

The latest version of this runs using a new tracking and translation system called TRACAB, which you'd imagine will come to FC in the future, but clearly not this year.

They may well have decided that, because of that coming in future, this year's animation gameplay implementation doesn't get much work (because what's the point working on something that's getting replaced).

I can understand that, but then, it makes Authentic 2.0 feel fairly pointless - because players still do the impossible second-to-second (and the ball still behaves like an orb of light).

And the sliders - man, those sliders... "Tackle frequency" should be contextual, based on tactics, player attributes and the situation. Okay, it's a base level, but... Give us some real power. Or better yet, make a game based on realism.

EDIT: I'm prepared to take all of this back and eat my words if the beta ends up being great. And I hope that happens, more than anything.

And for some positivity, stuff like this is really awesome:

Just random responses:

> There are already overpowered set piece routines in clubs. Clubs/UT are good places to see how anti-football (soccer!) the game actually is. And see just how god awful AI are. The videos did nothing to ease my doubts.
> The physicality shown in the video(s) has been in the game but usually results in one player falling or the stumbling animations force a big touch which makes the attacker lose possession.
> Authentic looks to be the same, with more sliders. Obviously need to play it but what little hope I had is being stomped on at the moment. Weight, momentum, fatigue, randomness, so much is missing to really differentiate Authentic from 'Competitive'.
> 'EA's Plans for Online' - This is season pass maintenance lmao, and some nerfs after everyone and their mother dribbles to the same spot to try a finesse

I would really like to hear news about a new engine or an overhaul , just something. Stats actually need to be overhauled as well, everything is too high making the game ping pong match, the exception being keepers, somehow stats really don't seem to matter and it's more like EA has determined the keeper isn't reaching this (it's right at him).

Was accepted into the beta but no word on mode(s)

Watched the Career deep-dive and I'm pretty underwhelmed, not seeing a single addition/improvement that has any substantial change. Think the only thing I was happy to see is the new sliders, especially aggression, I've been saying for the last 13 years (think they first came in Fifa13?) that there should be an aggression slider.

Can't be bothered to read the pitch notes so I'm having Notebook LLM create an audio podcast from it, will listen to that!

I have to say after barely touching last year's I am eager to play this year's but I think that's more a reflection of my own team's rebirth and wanting to emulate that in the game, will just have to figure out how to get it as cheap as possible!
In FIFA 16 or 17, GK could get injured when colliding with attacking players.

So I said I'm not going to watch this because it has Rivera in it - and I haven't - but this clip from Twitter appeared on my feed.

If he thinks people are playing the old games purely because they feel "fresh" (and not because they feel better, with better fundamentals)...

And worst of all, he thinks FC26 is better because it's the "most responsive"...

...how do we ever escape this?

If that’s a serious question, the “escape” is group together a collective of the indie soccer devs, secure some financing, and develop a prototype that’s exactly what you want. Shop it to studios and create a partnership for them to finish and ship the game.

It’s an enormous amount of work but far from impossible. The challenge really is the shared collective vision. You want a “realistic game” but what does that mean? It requires a leader that can consistently make the correct decisions to align with this vision.

It appears that Sam Rivera's role has changed to Associate Producer.

That makes it sound like he's a top-level guy now, but according to his LinkedIn (click here) he's still in the gameplay team.

While researching this, I discovered Gary Paterson (who worked on some of the best FIFA gameplay I experienced under producers David Rutter and Simon Humber) now works for 2K according to his LinkedIn (click here).

David Rutter himself has retired (click here). :(

Wait, what’s Paterson doing there? Is he on NBA 2K, or…

One thing I'd love to come with authentic mode is an authentic broadcast package. No hyper motion replays...and maybe some actual replays when I nearly score or the keeper pulls off an amazing save. Another change made so people don't have to wait 😤
I really wanna see them revamp commentary again. It just hasn't felt the same since Martin Tyler and Alan Smith left. I do like Guy Mowbray but it'd be nice to hear him with Shearer like their BBC coverage. Obviously you can't get Dreary but there's a lot of guys who do regular PL matches that I think would be good inclusions and sound better than Rae, Robson, Dixon. Not a fan of Alex Scott either, something about women commentary doesn't hit for me. There's not enough gravitas and atmosphere

This is actually something you've highlighted that I totally forgot about.

Remember the older titles where you would have conversations, history and stories during the game? The new mode looks great, but this is clearly something they need to revisit and spend time on.

I totally agree, Sue Smith is absolutely horrendous (and hardly ever commentates in real life) and those updates from Alex Scott are now so old and she sounds ridiculous. Pretty sure she wouldn't like them herself, now. If you lined every single player of the game up in a huge field and asked them to put their hands up who wants Alex Scott shouting throughout their games, I'm pretty sure not one hand would go up! But what does it matter what anyone wants anymore...as long as the company looks good!

I don't mind Guy but his comms are just so basic and lazy from EA. Again, they used to CARE and WANT it to be in-depth. I've been playing college football and the broadcast package and comms in comparison is just unbelievable. It's so conversational it's just awesome. But that for me is the core issue, it used to be for the love of football and now it's not, at all.

Alex Scott went through a period of time in the UK that we aptly named her "packet of crisps". You never know, she might up in your crisp packet this week. She was on every TV channel, every show, football or not football related and then she somehow got into FIFA/FC, must have a very good agent! I dont particularly dislike Alex Scott, but I got bored of her pretty quick after all that.

Her little bits in the game are freaking awful, they either bug out and calls wrong scores or she just sounds extremely false with that "happy" voice.

Sue Smith is quite decent on SkySports but she rarely does any commentary (like you said).

Guy is possibly one of the most annoying commentators to listen to and hes only on the BBC... Outside of the UK, I doubt many people know of him. Can't even say "nothing" correctly.

Dixon is annoying IRL and was on the game. Almost always sounds like he doesnt want to be there, winging and moaning about something thats happening. We used to say when he was in the game that he hated one of my mates. Even if he had scored a hat-trick. "Aw, he missed that chance so easily, what a twat" (paraphrasing of course).

In my opinion, for this game to step to modern standards, we need the likes of Gary "in this moment in time" Neville, Micah "buzz word" Richards and Jamie Carragher. Put together with any of the SkySports commentators but please not the idiots that do the EFL... oh they are painful.

I'm obviously biased but I'd take Gary Weaver any day (think that's him doing this one):

A lot of improvements. Really, the top as football arcadetor (can't be a simulator coz would be boring for 90% of the base).

For the record, stuff like this is awful and I feel like part of the reason it's impossible to get feedback taken seriously is because of this bullying culture.

There is a line; calling out the UI for being "gloomy" just seems like negativity for clicks to me - what, you want the AI to burn your retinas? And personally, I love the transfer UI based on a mobile phone. That adds authenticity.

The fact that calling out gameplay issues (which can be clearly evidenced through EA's own material) could be considered the same level of "toxic" because of how common this is makes me so frustrated.

Nobody should insult anybody over a game.
