Honest question: why do you think lifting the time restriction in offline is unlikely?

Phrased differently: why the fudge is this time restriction there in the first place?

I have the impression – based on not much more than a hunch – that they want to treat this version we have now and subsequent patches till November as "demo-like". Perhaps part of it comes from the roadmap. It just feels like the next "major" step in their plans is the Creative Team bollocks, and that's the update where we'll get Sharp Kicks™️ and a more fully featured game (albeit a lack of offline modes). So that's where my money is (figuratively; not spending on this shite).

Efootball is essentially another Lite version of the franchise and past Pes lite games have semi-permanent offline 5 min match times. Konami do this to encourage more gamers to gravitate to online modes. Only when they can be bothered to add paid offline content will those restrictions be lifted. I fear that 5 min matches will remain which offline gamers are expected to base their decision whether to buy ML on sometime next year.

Mate, invest some time on playing it & you might enjoy it. I’m referring to the PS5 version & can’t comment on the PC version. Ok Konami have received abuse for this version & rightly so but imo it’s playable on console & there others who are playing it as well. I’m not touching FIFA & I don’t want play pes 6 for the next few years. Gaming has evolved.

I dont agree with you. I think the posts I'm referring to are self-evident. I think your interpretation of them is wrong, but not insincerely so. We wont agree on the interpretation of them, nor will we agree on whether or not they are justified.

I cant keep going back and forth with you. I dont have the time to go through your lengthy posts and rebut/refute each point. That's not a criticism of you. I just dont have the appetite for it.

I quite understand not wanting further back and forth and support your desire to disengage. There is often only so much that can be said, and I've said rather a lot.

That said, (there's always a that said)—

The one thing I want to highlight, which you are free to ignore, is this: somewhat vague accusations of toxicity often seem to raise tensions; it is quite an easy term to throw about, especially without substantiating, and I don't think it is very constructive or useful.

I know you don't believe you've made any unfounded observations (most people don't), but that doesn't preclude you from making them nonetheless, so it would be good to have some actual basis to your accusations. The only direct charge I saw you make before, of the post I hyperlinked above, you backed down from (and indeed, it was far from toxic). The rest of your claims you've not cited individual cases and are just alluding to some general toxicity. I've skimmed back across the past 7 pages just to check, and I can't see any more specific charges.

On this specifically, I have been wondering. I think I've come to this conclusion: Konami wanted built-in excuses for this shit product. The gameplay is buggy as fuck, several systems don't seem to work, and it looks like arse. They know this. The only possible defence of it is that it's just early and unfinished. So they present it as finished enough to warrant downloads and lootbox preorders but as demo-like so they (i.e. their brand managers and their social media apologists) can say: it's just a demo. (Cf. it's just a server test; it's just a mobile game; it's just a pre-alpha...)

If you remove time limits, team restriction limits, etc., it looks like a full game – just a terrible one – and reviewers and consumers will not fail to treat it as such.

I'm not totally sure, but I think: isn't that actually good for "the algorithm"? I've heard it said often that dislikes count as effectively as likes for a YouTube channel's engagement stats. For that reason, if there's something I really despise and don't want to contribute to its further spread – and don't want to be recommended it (something like a Jordan Peterson video, e.g.) – I normally just close the video and delete it from my history lol.

The issue we have here is that you believe my argument becomes stronger if I convince you. I do not.

I think people referring to a lack of personal standards, desperation, blind loyalty, copium etc ends in a kind of toxicity. I do. I believe my observations are fully substantiated. You dont. There we go. I may have backed down as you put it, but more for the sake of avoiding argument than anything else. (We could get into that too but where does it end?)

But we're back to where we started. Two people with fundamentally different views of events.

Watch time is the main currency for ranking. The algorithm will take a dim view of a high click count to viewing time ratio, so clickbait thumbnails are risky business. You're doing the right thing by giving up on the junk as soon as possible! Dislikes will likely influence how much time a person will give a video. It certainly does me. If I take a punt on a sketchy thumbnail and see a large number of dislikes I know immediately what I'm in for!

I know we live In a culture where outrage sells and it's monetizable on YouTube and that sucks. I know it's very profitable to be negative and dramatic but some things are so clearly bad and efootball is one of those things.

I think if it weren't for those steam reviews that totally buried Konami for releasing this utter shit of a game, many PES YouTubers, game journos, and mainstream outlets like IGN would have probably been very tame in their criticisms of the game.

I think the only reason ign have it a bad review was because of this, yeah.

They gave Madden 22, a broken mess of a game a 6.0 and the game is the worst rated Madden game on steam and on metacritic.
 
If anything my view on eFootball has gone down. I was a day 1 enthusiast for the seeming PES2014-em-up. Bear in mind I was expecting something like FIFA 2003, so my perception was relative to that. I still am intrigued to see where the project will end up, but after the reception I suspect it will head away from the PES2014-alike. So I'm gloomy.
 
Right, this thread has become a bit of a dumpster fire. Warning follows.

We have received some reports from concerned users, as some have launched thinly-veiled personal attacks over the previous page or two. Some users have been warned and we will escalate these warnings to bans should it continue. We have to try and get a bit of readability back in here.

I'll be honest here; I blame this eFootball release for all the toxicity entirely, because nobody can (in good conscience) say eFootball isn't a broken experience, and they're currently taking money for it which is (in my view) a real scumbag move. If you don't like the anger, please consider what the situation would look like if Konami delivered the game they teased two years ago, when they told us all to buy the season update and to hold on for a truly next-gen experience).

But for the millionth time... People are allowed to be positive, happy, excited for the future. That is their perogative.

We try to keep this forum (and these types of thread) as open as possible - nobody should feel that they cannot register their disgust (again, to be frank, that includes me and the majority of the staff here). But that also applies to people who still have happiness and hope.

We try to allow both sides of the conversation to thrive. But these petty arguments that keep breaking out, and especially the personal attacks, have to stop. It's not fun logging into this thread at the moment.

Oh the usual classic tactic of starting arguments to divert attention from the worst reviewed game in steam history ,next step I guess is trying to get this forums shutdown.

There is a positive feedback thread with 3 posts (probably all from the same user) where you can go and revel in the beauty of the product and offer Konami the positive feedback they need to hear without getting bothered by anyone if you genuinely care.

It's frustrating in soo many ways I don't even know where to start but regardless of that there are things that just feels very rewarding when you pull it off (and PA3 isn't too assisted which is a pleasant surprise, I haven't even tried Manual yet).

With that said; the game is still shit in the bigger picture of course and everyone at Konami should resign.

Agreed. It's generally shit but it has a soul. Unlike FIFA which just feels too synthetic and bubbly gum pop to me. Too polished yet lacks very basic things that make a footy game good in it's feel when you're playing it where the depth behind it becomes irrelevant because you just want to feel that fun and passion - FIFA is like dating a female vampire who's a solid 9/10 in the looks department, there's a huge price to pay for those looks. The speed in FIFA never feels consistent one moment to the next and the animation system is terrible in application. The players have to move at matrix speed to finish out the animation they've started. e$hitball has potential but the VERY BIG problem is that Konami will likely do nothing with that potential and I dare almost not to say it but there's still a risk with Konami they could mess the game up even further. They've proven with patches in the past, they are more than capable of that.

The game does seem to resort to desktop resolution if you set it to "fullscreen" from the settings.exe.


However, there is another problem. If I alt tab the game, it switches to window mode, after which pressing alt+enter doesnt work and I'm stuck with window mode for rest of the game until I restart it.

What a pain in the ass. This game lacks basic pc game functions. Even pes 10, 13 can switch between fullscreen and window mode on the fly.

That hypothesis is "more palatable" (albeit, not much more) than one of my alternatives--this is another way of Konami saying they don't really care about offline players, whom they can't monetize.

Incidentally, I think it'd have been wise for Konami to actually have called this a demo, instead of treating tip-toeing around it with shipping version 0.9.0 and stripping features.
It'd have been a smarter way to manage expectations (though, again, not particularly smart--just smarter than what they did).

That is, indeed, a good question, which we will surely never get an answer for.

One of the possibilities is that it really wasn't in a much better state, and that the features that weren't shipped themselves had tons of bugs.

Another is that maybe they had to cut the release early to go through the testing required to publish them in stores (online and offline).

I wonder if it's a case of the version people having played being quite bespoke just to bring about positive impressions. I don't know if that's too cynical a thought on my part.

Also, impressions weren't uniform. I thought Camaldinho's and NGB's, as well as the guy the Athletic drafted in just for the review, were pretty sober. So I am fairly suspicious they have something in a better state to have given us.

The fact there wasn't a day 1 patch is indictment enough, in my view.

It takes time to get your code through the approval process of each platform (PlayStation, Xbox etc.). You submit it as soon as you feel comfortable with the state of it, so that when the release date comes around, it's already been approved (and if not, you've had time to fix it).

It didn't break any consoles, so it got the thumbs up from the platform owners (that's all they really care about).

On Konami's side, they only cared about hitting that release date, and getting something out there when people were buying FIFA, to give them an alternative.

As for the advanced build - either that will be the next released version (Oct 28th), or, if it's not, they've had to backtrack due to code issues introduced by some of the new features...

Finally, and with no offence intended to anyone else at the playtest, please bear the last paragraph of this set of tweets in mind:

But this is why you have Day 1 patches, right? Sure you have to submit something early, but as I understand it, it's more flexible with subsequent patches.

I could be wrong about that. But lots of games seem to install first day updates to patch over the code that's gone "gold" these days.
