FIFA World Cup Brasil 2014

Re: Road to the World Cup Brazil 2014

I had never seen a Mexico team playing so shit, it's shocking! No, on this current showing, they don't deserve to be in the World Cup.
A real shame for Chicharito, but I think they might not get past New Zealand!

Re: Road to the World Cup Brazil 2014

Kolia,Portugal is at Top10 NT in the World ;)
Portugal play very bad vs weak teams and explode vs medium/hard teams ;)

Re: Road to the World Cup Brazil 2014

I hope those Mexicans miss this WC, they don't deserve to play.
Similar case to the French one on 2010...

Re: Road to the World Cup Brazil 2014

Mexico will go through, blind folded :P
Klinsman made the US a strong force :WORSHIP: That Iceland bloke looks promising , where does Klinsman find these players

All of the dual-nationals Klinsmann has called in are regular starters for their club sides. In fact, Aron Johansson played alongside Jozy Altidore last year for AZ Alkmaar and is currently the starting forward for them this year. He's on pace to break Jozy's scoring record for an American in Europe -- a record which Jozy only set last season! And yes, he plays in the Eredivisie where the defenses are not as strong and teams are almost required to play more open football, but if anyone saw the goal he scored last night that clinched the win for the Americans, you would have to think he is a player to look out for come Brazil next year. Not a Golden-Boot-caliber striker, but one who can certainly impact matches that are lacking that little bit of extra quality in the final third. In my opinion, he is a star-in-the-making and will only get better now that he has scored his first national team goal. The US also has a really young, talented dual-national center back by the name of John Anthony Brooks that should make the 23-man roster for next summer, but will most likely be making his impact on the team at Russia 2018.

Re: Road to the World Cup Brazil 2014

Does it really matter if he has a dual citizenship? He chose to play for the US, he feels American, therefore he's American.

If you are talking to me, there was no hidden agenda in my comment. I consider them Americans -- always have, always will. I just used the phrase "dual-national" in reference to bebo's post. Sorry if I didn't clearly explain what I meant.

Bit over the top no?

He says you in green are not worthy, it's the US . You weren't worthy in the gold cup you European playing Mexicans are Not. worthy

Honestly, they are not worthy. I feel so bad for Panama, but at the same time they shot themselves in the foot by allowing goals late in games to both Mexico and the US. I had no idea what Panama was doing yesterday after they took the lead. They continued to attack and left themselves exposed at the back. They didn't need an insurance goal either -- Costa Rica was already up 2-1 on Mexico. Mind-boggling!

Also, one more good one: https://twitter.com/ussoccer/status/390323462494887936

Re: Road to the World Cup Brazil 2014

I'll support NZ, not because of what happened lately, but because I like their attitude and the country itself, but right now I think the whole football world is cheering for them and against Mexico, right? :D

I can`t see Mexico losing, just can`t.... Mexico needs to build a Klinsman statue and annual parade in his name ;)

Re: Road to the World Cup Brazil 2014

This is as bad as I've ever seen Mexico. They have plenty of quality to qualify easily from CONCACAF but somehow relied on a late goal to get to the playoffs, which they probably didn't even deserve in the end.

Croatia are another one who have plenty of quality but Stimac doesn't seem to know what he's doing. Qualifying above Belgium was always gonna be tough but the results they've had have been poor.

So glad to see Bosnia qualify straight after having to face Portugal in the playoffs for previous tournaments.

Re: Road to the World Cup Brazil 2014

The two one man teams against each other:

Portugal - Sweden

Very illogical seeding and lottery result imo....

Re: Road to the World Cup Brazil 2014

Thank god we weren't paired with France or Sweden,we've got high hopes but then again with our sloppy attacking I'm really unsure... Portugal v Sweden should be a great match,Iceland v Croatia should be boring as feck.

Re: Road to the World Cup Brazil 2014

I rather think the most boring matches will be Romania versus Greece. Imagine a country like Greece or Romania goingto the WC and countries like Portugal or Sweden, France or Ukrain not...

I think both Iceland and Croatia should go to the WC.

Re: Road to the World Cup Brazil 2014

As usually we aren't looking for easy ways. Just remeber play-off agains Croatia in 1998, against Germany 2001. Greece and Croatia had very easy qualify groups and now they have easy drawn. Fortune didn't love us. Finally Ukraine deserve to play on WC2014!

+1 It's really a shame two from Portugal, Sweden, France and Ukraine won't be going to the WC.

Agree, especially as you'll either see Cristiano or Zlatan, but not both, which is a pity in terms of entertainment.

Re: Road to the World Cup Brazil 2014

a world cup without cristiano ronaldo? hate to know that but it's quite possible. :(

and imagine if argentina wins it. they're gonna say messi won the world cup that his biggest rival couldn't even qualify.

Re: Road to the World Cup Brazil 2014

I'm ok with drawing Croatia, I think both Portugal and Ukraine would have been clearly harder opponents. Not that Croatia aren't still favorites, and them having the second leg at home is bad for us as well. But Iceland won't be as easy as they might think.

Re: Road to the World Cup Brazil 2014

This so fucked up, I can't choose between Zlatan and Cris! This is a huge blow for me. Sure the game should be great to watch, but missing one of these players at WC isn't that great.

My thought too

Re: Road to the World Cup Brazil 2014

Isn't there a chance that both Sweden and Portugal would not qualify ?
Two big ego's in a team sport.

Typical the way football is watched now: Arsenal score perhaps the best goal i've ever seen (the build-up that led to Wilshere' goal) and everybody has already forgotten this beauty because some "magic" from Zlatan...of course what he did was pure genius, but i prefer team efforts...
I've read somewhere that Sweden has a better record without Zlatan than with him. About Ronaldo: i remember an image in the previous WC where two Portugal players (if i remember well it could have been Joao Moutinho and Dani) were looking at each other and you saw them thinking: "oh my god, he's at it again..."

You can't deny that they are among the very best players in the world, but i wouldn't miss them at all...to me players like Özil, Xabi Alonso and Cesc Fabregas with there exquisite passing are as big stars as those two...they are team players....

Anyway, it's all very subjective.

Re: Road to the World Cup Brazil 2014

Portugal vs. Sweden
Ukraine vs. France
Greece vs. Romania
Iceland vs. Croatia
I agree with you, guys, it is not fair that teams such as Portugal and Sweden, Ukraine and France will play each other and at least one of each pair will not go to the "Feast of football", but take a look at it from the other side, the die is, the lot, the small (in the football sense) countries must also get their "Minutes of fame", who knows, perhaps what some Romania (for example) by going to the World Cup will go the way of Senegal in 2002 or Ghana in 2010, showing a very brilliant game. Such teams are always ornaments such a tournament, I think, to watch their fairytale more interesting, than watching a game known favorites. :D

Anyway, good luck to those teams and let the best teams win.

As usually we aren't looking for easy ways. Just remeber play-off agains Croatia in 1998, against Germany 2001. Greece and Croatia had very easy qualify groups and now they have easy drawn. Fortune didn't love us. Finally Ukraine deserve to play on WC2014!
Good luck, guys, Russia for you. ;)

honestly there is more to this then just that mexico is bad right now. CONCACAF is stronger then ever, thanks to MLS and the Mexican league. The quality of MLS rising and concacaf rising is no coincidence.

Re: Road to the World Cup Brazil 2014

seeing how "strong" sweedish football is probably Zlatan can be there on the next WC with his 35-36 yrs if they qualify, about Ronaldo its obvious

Yep, they did not deserve it. Most of Mexican press underestimate, Central American football, they always say Costa Rica and Honduras are less than them, and at the beginning of the qualification on of the most polemical mexican sports journalist, David Faitelson, said, there were going to walk easy through quealification, now they ate their own words, draw against Costa Rica and loss against Honduras in Azteca Stadium, and draw against Honduras and loss in Costa Rica when they went off road...

And to make it worst, Club America, best Club in Mexico and the base of the Mexico Squad, lost recently against Costa Rican Club Alajuelense 0-1 in Azteca, and alarm lights went up again... Though after win against Finland made them feel relieved and ready for matches against New Zealand.

But, still i hope to see Mexico out of the World Cup against all the odds
