I think it really isn't any different, Costa stepped on the defender's foot as you can see on the gifs above.

My opinion is that it was a dive, I just can't understand why would anyone think otherwise, but that's ok, let's not go into a discussion we don't need at the moment. :)

Costa let himself be tackled, that's the difference between this and a dive. There was an actual tackle here that Costa made a foul. The defender missed the ball and took the player = foul. Cheesy? yes Illegal? nope. Fair play? debatable.

Been a really good game. Spain dominate, Diego Costa was always a danger, but Vlaar been playing great. Only one real chance, outside the pk, for the spaniards. The Silva loob was brilliant stopped by Cillesen.

The Netherland played their tactic very well. Exploring the Spanish high line, playing in the offside limit. It was well executed.

Amazing goal from RVP. World class.

Van Gaal needs to change a few things. The wingbacks are giving too much room, not closing the gap with the CB's.

Let's see how the goal will make an animic impact on both teams. But I believe that Spain will win. The dutch defense are too fragile and inexperienced.

Totally agree with andy18cruz. It's virtually impossible to play a high line against the Spanish team (has anyone done it successfully in the last 4 years?) Iniesta and Xavi are just too good at creating half a second to ping a ball through.

Spain will score at least one more, but not convinced the Dutch will have the legs to create many more opportunities.

Also a very real chance De Guzman will get sent off here. I'd replace him if I were LvG. First booking was uber-soft, but he could have gone for his second foul.

Will be interested to see if FIFA look at Costa's headbutt. Obviously not hard enough to warrant the reaction, but if I'm not mistaken the rule is that you can't headbutt people, not that you can't headbutt them hard.
 
The Dutch are surprising me, I knew they weren't bad, but that good? Good to see them leading against Spain with beautiful attacking football. 3-1 just fell while I'm writing this, although it seems to be a foul by RVP against Casillas there.

Best match so far.
 
After seeing the penalty replay at halftime I change my mind. The contact was initiated by Diego Costa and not the other way around. I thought that Diego Costa left his foot, but it was the defender who made contact. But it was Costa who almost put his foot on top of De Vrij's foot.

But at "naked eye", without replay, I understand why the ref was fooled.

Anyway, Robben made justice (so far at least). Amazing skill. Another excellent pass by Blind. Piqué showed again that he his overhype. Good CB, but one of the best? I beg to differ.

Van Gaal has showed a lot of tactical flexibility, which I thought he didn't have. Very nice.

RVP goal also helped.

PS: Have doubts if Van Persie didn't make a foul on Casillas. There's contact, but don't know if Casillas would reach the ball. Anyway, another blunder by Casillas. That what you get for putting a GK that played fewer matches this season.

It's not a clear foul, it's debatable clearly. I personally think keepers are generally too much protected. Almost every time the keeper leaves the line there's an obligatory foul called and I think most of them are wrong.
 
What is happening right now? Spain conceded more goals in one match now than in the last WC and EC together!
