Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

If Sneijder signs won't that mean a change of formation? How will Rooney and Chicharito fit into a starting lineup with Sneijder? Does Sneijder have the stamina to play in a two man midfield?

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

This is genuinely depressing. Watching United v Barca, in a FRIENDLY, and we've had a quality Busquets dive followed by 'treatment' and then of course him coming back on, as well as wonderful dive from Pedro. It's a friendly, in the states, so fortunately everytime players go down with little to no contact they're getting the boos they deserve.

On a side note, I think Barca will win with their, erm, style. Which has seen loads of possession and so far not a single shot. I know it's effective, but man it feels like choking the life out of the game at this time in the morning!

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Sir Alex on Wes Sneijder in Daily Mail: "If he wants to come he must accept our contract offer. If not we have other options in mind."

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

After the barca game SAF was asked about the comments in the Daily Mail

"Absolute nonsense"..

"I have never discussed him. There is nothing new."

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Strange, strange match. Barca must have had 70% posession, but other than Thaigo's wonder strike, I'm not convinced they took more than 2 shots in the whole match. Was suffocating.

We actually should have added a 3rd from Owen late on, and Welbeck missed a one on one too. Shows that you can set your stall against Barca find chances.

Anyway, hard to read too much into it with so many key players missing, and it being a friendly.

Smalling at RB was very, very exciting, and Cleverly was surprising adept at filling holes defensively. Welbeck was more impressive then Rooney too. And Thiago was defo man of the match. So a lot of good youth on display.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

SAF on Cleverley:

"It an area we have to find a solution for,"

"That is why we played Tom Cleverley today. Physically he is not the strongest but he is wiry and has a great idea of the game. He is a good footballer and was our best player today.

"His discipline was terrific. He is a quick passer of the ball. He has good eyes. It was a big night for him. He is a big, strong possibility for us to start the season."

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Doesn't really matter too much with the teams on show, and doesn't make up for the last two times we've met, but it sure is nice to beat Barca every once in a while :D

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Sounds like this'll be the week if we're going to get someone. Fingers crossed I guess.

Still wouldn't be surprised if it was an out of the blue signing.

id be suprised if we made another signing, out of the blue or otherwise.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Sneijder will come, I won't thank SAF or Gill but the sheer drive and never give up attitude of the muppets on the Cafe to have dragged this transfer through.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Apparently Hernandez will be missing the first 3 games of the season, putting him on the sidelines till September. As far as I know, it's a concussion. :(

Guess Berba and Welbeck will be given chances then.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Rooney upfront and Welbeck behind him. I'd be happy with that. Which still leaves Berba and Owen on the bench.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

He did indeed get a concussion in the US during training, but I was under the impression that Fergie wasn't going to use him anyway as he needs a rest.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

It seems that the snejder signing is done for 35m€. Wow, that is a great great move and a very good price for one of the best midfielders out there. I wish barcelona had signed him but we cant have everyone playing for us lol.

Anyways, congratulations on this move that will make you automatically much better and a more dangerous opponent. I cant see many teams posing a threat to you this year if he gels quickly. If he gets along with rooney, chicharito, nani and the rest it can be devastating. Plus, he adds about 6 goals on free kicks per season. Cheers for the big move of the summer by now, and at a very very good price.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

True there are some similarities with the Veron signing.

Wesley is just a phenomenal player though. One of the world's very finest! A player like, when you're that good, would improve ANY team.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I think he'll do great, he gels into the teams almost immediatly, look what he did on Madrid & Inter.. he has never dissapointed imo

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Hrm, haven't seen it myself, but apparently SAF confirmed after the Marseille 'gala' match that Berba could play for PSG. Seems an odd negotiation tactic!

Has there been any concrete news on Sneijder? Would you take Sneijder for, essentially, £15m plus probably £2m a year in wages? (his demands - Berbatov)

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

I don't think he's in Fergie's plans. Welbeck has looked genuinely class throughout preseason and for parts of last year. We've got Rooney, Hernandez and Owen as well.

I think Fergie is moving away from 442 into a 4231 or 4411, and Berba just doesn't fit in.

Personally gutted cause I love the Bulgarian, but can't deny that would be great business (£20m for a 30 year old with 1 year on contract?!)

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

To be honest even if Berba had lit the Prem up whilst he's been with us I'd probably take 20 million for him right now.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

When we bought Berba...the backroom staff didnt quite agree because he didnt have a resale value because of his age.To be honest I would grab the chance to sell him at 18-20mill pounds if the oppurtunity is there.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Welbeck looks a special talent, I do wonder how he develops over the coming season.

I hoped he was gonna stay, defo 15-20 goals a season player, not to be sniffed at.

but we aint gonna turn that type of money down, technically he's got two years left as the club have a clause to extend a year if they want, so really the club have him for two years.
