Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Carrick missing the CS. I hope in a way this turns into a bit of a wake up call to Fergie to strengthen the department, even if it means City bossing the midfield a bit

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Were trying for Sneijder so its not we don't have a target.

Cleverley and Anderson will play, the same midfield which played Barcelona I guess.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Mixed reactions after watching highlights of Scholesy's testimonial.
He will be sorely missed but its another door open for our promising youngsters.
One in particular is Paul Pogba who looked the part.He is as tall as Chris Smalling and the latter's height is anything but normal.
Scholes is staying with the club as a coach amd that is a huge plus for the kids.
Thank You Paul Scholes for your fantastic service with the club since 94.Respect.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Pogba's a talent but its definitely a season to soon for him at the least.

Cleverley and Anderson in midfield looked interesting against Barcelona (Only a Friendly I know!) so I would like to see how that pairing does in a a couple of competitive games.

If anything I do think Scholes performance showed the level he is still at on his day and we should be trying to push through a deal for a player.

Suprised we've got rid of Obertan, thought it would be a loan but I guess not. we've got 4 top options outwide so it kinda makes sense.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Yeah, I'd be really surprised if we sold Gabby outright. we should do the new (ridiculous) Barca method of sales: sell him but with an option to buy him back for peanuts if we want to :)

*tear* the last ever Paul Scholes screamer. What a legend.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

fantastic goal by Scholes..he could still play..but i imagine him wanting to rest if he knows he can´t give 110% anymore..

but yes, he will be important for United as coach..and imo he has all the personal walues for making a great coach...

maybe even of the first team in future.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

yep bad day for him, but this happens, he´s just a new kid in town.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

haha, what dedication from Nani until the final whistle!

I do have to comment on Anderson...always liked the kid, but I thought he did well this game, better than Carrick, and he just needs to improve his passing...it gets intercepted a little too easily.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Wow, glad I got up to watch the second half, that was awesome!

So glad we won - if only because City were so poor. That much money and their tactic appears to be to use an uber-defensive formation and score of set plays. They're like a 10x spending Stoke.

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

it´s just comunity shield, but this could mean much more for both the teams..

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Cleverley was particularly impressive! :CONFUSE:
Smalling's overlapping runs were spot on too.
De Gea could use a bit of adaptation time of course, no pressure on the kid. :)

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

Yes, cannot believe how good the second half lineup looked:

-----------De gea------------
-Smalling-Jones--Evans-Rafa--
--------Ando---Cleverly------
-----------Rooney------------
---Nani-------------Young----
-----------Welbeck-----------

I could be wrong, but isn't Rooney the oldest player there, at 25?

On hindsight, perhaps the most important thing about us not losing was that hopefully De Gea's slight lapse will be forgiven. Some of our 'fans' are so fickle it hurts.

Young is 26 but still a fascinating young line-up... and it was interesting to see Rafael wearing the captain's armband after Evra left. :D

Hahah I love how Rafael KEPT the captain's armband instead of giving it to Rooney or someone lol.

That 2nd goal was super $exy!! Breathtaking!

Welbeck reminds me of a young Thierry Henry and Cleverly IS Paul Scholes' replacement.

yup, thought anderson and welbeck had pretty good games also,i really hope cleverley gets picked over carrick, carrick was too sluggish

Re: Manchester United Champions Thread!!!19!!!!!

No Young is 26.

Great game, both teams made it more than a traditional Community Shield due to the rivalry and both teams not holding back.

Start from back to front on the talking points. De Gea did seem to make a mistake on the 2nd but its his first competitive game and the fact he so easily just moves on from the mistake and not let it hinder the rest of his game is great, the potential is very easy to see top talent.

Smalling at RB reminds me of O'Shea 02', Im just waiting for the depressing day when he suddenly becomes a stiff slow steady eddy. Great game unbelievable talent. Jones was also pretty impressive actually more so than I've seen prior and Evans had some really good moments (had a great run but decided he wanted to keep the ball instead of passing)

Anderson was really good I thought, the way he got out of some tight spots and manoeuvring the ball was sensational. decent passing. Carrick was a real disappointment and was completely overshadowed by Cleverley and Anderson who showed that they could be a great pairing. Cleverley passed and moved and didn't seem to dwell on the ball and didn't seem to have that fear of the occasion which you sometimes worry about Carrick.

Nani was amazing but in all honestly he's been amazing for over a year, hopefully he can add more goals to his game (only thing missing for him IMO) and today was a good start!

Honestly, I just don't thing Young is that good, he seems to have "improved" us slightly be being quick and having decent ball control which allows Nani to operate on the other flank but he losses the ball countless times, doesn't have amazing close control to beat players, and his crossings been awful. I'll wait and see but I wasn't too happy with his signing and he's not shown me anything to change that. Welbeck seems a much better talent who could probably operate on the left if needed and he had a decent game.

Some of the football we've been playing is pretty awesome. the 2nd goal :... Maybe we'll be seeing more of those type of build up plays.
